Miami self-imposes, Tech headed to ACC title game

It took a second-half resurgence, the fallout of a booster gone wild and Virginia Tech’s worst season since 1992, but Georgia Tech is going to the ACC championship game.

A day after most expected the decision to be made public, Miami announced Monday morning that it will self-impose a postseason bowl ban in anticipation of NCAA sanctions in the wake of an investigation into allegations that Hurricanes booster Nevin Shapiro provided players with thousands of impermissible benefits with the knowledge of coaches. The ACC does not allow bowl-ineligible teams to compete for the ACC championship. As a result, Tech will play Florida State for its third ACC title Dec. 1 in Charlotte. Kickoff will either be 7:45 or 8 p.m., depending on the broadcast outlet, either ABC or ESPN.

The Yellow Jackets’ 42-24 win over Duke Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium turned out to be the clincher. Tech’s 5-3 league record cannot be matched by any bowl-eligible team in the Coastal Division.

It is a stunning turn of events. Oct. 6, Tech fell to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the ACC with its third consecutive loss, to Clemson by a 47-31 score.  It was the third consecutive game in which the Jackets had allowed 40-plus points, a first in the team’s history. The dismissal of defensive coordinator Al Groh followed two days later.

With division losses at that point already to the Hokies and Hurricanes, Tech’s shot at Charlotte was still mathematically alive, but that seemed about it. For Tech to reach the ACC title game would likely require Virginia Tech to lose four conference games, something the Hokies hadn’t done since joining the ACC in 2004. It would seem to have also required the Hurricanes, whose possible bowl ban had yet to surface, to do likewise.

The Hokies lost to North Carolina to drop to 1-1 that day, and then after beating Duke Oct. 13, lost three consecutive games to drop to 2-4 in the league to give the Yellow Jackets a second chance. Virginia Tech has not had a three-game since 2002. Tech has since remained perfect in the league, defeating Boston College, Maryland, North Carolina and Duke with a loss to BYU mixed in.

It is coach Paul Johnson’s second appearance in the ACC title game in his five years at Tech. Were the Jackets to defeat Florida State – Tech will almost certainly be a heavy underdog to the 10-1 Seminoles – Johnson would become the only coach in school history to win two ACC titles. (The first, in 2009, was vacated by the NCAA as a result of impermissible benefits violations.)

The news sets up an interesting week in the state of Georgia. For the first time, both Georgia and Tech will be playing in their respective conference championship games in the same season. While the game carries heavy meaning, both teams will be playing for more in a week’s time. The Bulldogs may be playing for a spot in the national championship game. Tech will have a spot in the Orange Bowl on the line, a remarkable prize for a season that started so auspiciously.

Johnson may have to make a decision on A-back Orwin Smith, who suffered an ankle injury in the second half of Saturday’s game. After the game, Johnson said he didn’t know if Smith would be available for the Georgia game.

The Tech ticket office will likely make information available soon. Tickets are also available at the ACC’s championship game site here.

Red Black – Ask yourself why you felt the need to make the above comments. Then, grow up. Nobody really cares oo much what you think, at least not here.

As for CPJ, I think he will be clear in his message that the only way to shut the mouths of folks like you is to play their best on December 1 and prove to everyone that they deserve it.

I don’t think anyone can say that they earned it outright, but they did earn the right to be Miami’s replacement. Miami bowing out was the right decision for UM and GT is the benefactor of that decision. No sense in argueing any more aout that.

GT will play FSU and I personally believe that is a more interesting game since FSU has already played Miami.

I also think most GT fans are realistic enough to know that GT’s defense needs to be their best, maybe better, to have a chance in the next two games. I don’t think there will be any realistic Alumni that will tell you that GT should not be a double digit underdog in either of the next two games.

I find it interesting that so many haters post on a Tech blog, but I suppose they just can’t stand the fact that the lilttle technical institute up on North Avenue always finds a way to matter. Good lord, how sad for the ACC. A 6-6 team in the ACCCG with a blowout home loss to a FCS team on its resume, both teams in the ACCCG (and the only other ranked ACC team probably coming off of losses to mid-level SEC teams), and the possivbility of sending an unranked 7-6 team to a BCS bowl as the ACC representative! Tech should self-ban for being 6-6, or the ACC should “vacate” the ACC Coastal title for this year and just let FDSU win the title (or play a rematch with Clemson). What this means is that the ACC will likely NOT get any consideration for automatic inclusion in any future BCS or playoff arrangments. Not to mention we will be stuck with CPJ for another few years on the “strength” of his ACC Coastal “win”.

Whatever poor network is stuck with the Orange Bowl this year will be answering calls 24/7 from sponsors trying to get their money back if Tech managed to beat FSU. (Face it, the whole league sucks, so Tech has as good a chance as anybody, and FSU played a powder-puff schedule.) The BCS can “reward” some BCS-busting team with a trip to the Orange Bowl to play an unranked Tech team with six losses.

Back into a championship game because of a poor division that is led by a banned team.
Back into a certain routed loss to FSU.

Finish 6-7 (a losing record).

A travesty. A 6-5 team playing for the conference title. An even bigger travesty will happen if GT wins the ACCCG and plays in a BCS bowl.

Now you GT fans need to STHU about UGA ‘backing’ into the SEC title game.

How embarrassing that an ACC team that lost at home to Middle Tennessee State 49-28 and recently got killed by BYU 41-17 is going to the championship game. Miami did the right thing, because they knew we would beat them in the championship game. Now Ga Tech will get embarrassed by us too! At least do the ACC a favor and decline ANY bowl game.

I really think Vad Lee needs to be the predominant QB vs UGA. Tevin had his chance the last two tries and nothing special came out of it. If Vad plays like he did vs UNC, GT has got a great chance. Also glad we have Tanner in place. There would be no way we would win anything with the other two.

Hope Orwin will be okay. I do predict alot of scoring but as CPJ says 68 is better than 67.

OK, for all of the trash talking that will take place as we head into
this Saturday against UGA, here are the statistics: GT has a record of
6 and 5, UGA has a record of 10 and 1; GT’s opponents have an overall
record of 60 and 61 (Mid TN played only 10 games), UGA’s opponents
have an overall record of 59 and 61; GT has played 8 conference games
with our opponents having an overall record of 44 and 44, UGA has
played 8 conference games with their opponents having an overall
record of 45 and 43; GT has 6 opponents with a winning record (4
conference and 2 non-conference), UGA has 4 opponents with a winning
record (3 conference and 1 non-conference).

It really says The ACC has only one real good team FSU and possibly Clemson. FSU will destroy Tech and send them to some “poopy” bowl which is all they deserve anyway.

I can’t wait to see our offense against that defense of Tech’s that gave up 49 points to Middle Tenn. and 41 points to Brigham Young. Wow!! it will be ugly on Sat. for the “Dirt Daubers”. Murray, Gurley, Marshall and company will have a field day.

You dawg fans are a bunch of hypocrites…to no ones surprise I might add. To sit here and make fun of Tech and saying that they shouldn’t go to the championship game, or bowl because it was “handed to them”, shows how clueless you are. So I guess by your logic everyone else that is a college football fan at this point should say UGA wouldn’t even have a shot at a national title right now because Ohio State is undefeated, but they have sanctions just like Miami does. So if ND goes undefeated…Ohio State goes undefeated…and the Dawgs beat Bama well then the dawgs simply shouldn’t go the championship game because it was “handed” to them. Give me a break. Tech deserves what they have. For a fan base that always talks about how dominate they are and how “great” they are there sure are a bunch of haters out there.

So by saying we played no one is a joke. I would have thought since you were in the class of 90 at Tech you would have become a little brighter over the last 22 years. Quite frankly I’m not surprised.

By the way, Tech will lose by a minimum of 4 TD’s this Sat. Do you really think we are going to let you beat us in Sanford Stadium this Sat? You and your ilk are delusional. You could’t even beat Middle Tenn. on your own field. You gave up 49 points to them, what do you think our offense will do to that WEAK defense of yours? It will be over by the half.

Good for the Jackets.
When face with embarrassing loses, they overcame to make Lemonade out O Lemons I suppose.

They showed character and improvement when many would have given up. They won three in a row to become bowl eligible, when most thought that would be highly unlikely.

In contrast, look at a team like Arkansas (where I live), and WVU, who when faced with adversity, fold.

That said, this team is not a great team, and have played very poorly at points this year. Saying that does not deny that they have acknowledged their failings and improved. Jackets should be unashamedly proud.

For you Tech fans, all the talk about Tech’s offense should be tempered by the fact that UGA got a scrimmage against the same style (although not as effective) of offense Tech runs and the Dawgs have won 10 of the last 11. As for the folks saying Tech and/or UGA are “backing into” championships, that’s just dumb. These players go out there and play hard and win ball games, so who cares if some things happen to help them out? A championship is a championship is a championship. I’m proud of the football programs in the state of Georgia, and I wouldn’t mind seeing a 6-6 Tech team beat FSU and leave the BCS heads spinning.

And stop with the schedule talk GT folks. If we are 10-1 with a schedule that includes 8 SEC schools, could you imagine what we would do with your schedule? You are 6-5 with one of the weakest schedules out there. As for being overrated, I remember an 11-1 GT team a few years back (to remind you, the one was to UGA, who was at the tail end of an 8-5 season) that was talked about as being one of the best in the country…that’s right, that team got smoked in their bowl game and had the season scratched due to NCAA violations. Funny how all the overrated talk was nonsense for you guys back then, but it’s a-OK and dead on when UGA is the potential 11-1 team with an SEC championship game remaining. Yeah, if we beat #2 (at the time – still #4) Florida, #2 Bama and #1 Notre Dame, we will be the most overrated National Champions of all time.

And they have more bigger, physical and more atheletic lineman on both sides of the ball, that’s really the only difference between the sec and other conferences (with the exception of ohio state, and a few others)… that’s probably the main reason that the sec teams seem to succeed in many games outside of the their own conference, and why they get a lot of bias from the polls. Also, that’s probably the main reason why teams such as uga struggle against teams like alabama and lsu, because they are actually playing teams with good lineman, and good recruits (similar to themselves)……but better coaching overall…

I speak with fans all the time that hate UGA and their fans because you are like this. The problem is that UGA has done nothing notable to give their fans reasons to be like this. The truth of the matter is they know this and refuse to accept they are a second tier program. You are not LSU, Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Michigan, Notre Dame, etc.. You are not and never will be. You got lucky one Saturday in 1980. Otherwise you would be on the outside looking in. The University of Georgia fan base (most of them) suck. Until you have achieved more in College Football than Georgia Tech then keep your mouths shut. Who cares about your success against Tech? At least we understand that Georgia will always recruit better than we. You should be able to beat us more times than not. Who cares? What you are about to discover though is that November 24th, you will lose. Then you will lose to Alabama a week later. Then you will be calling for the firing of your head coach and OC. Then your AD will do so and with your schedule next year 6 wins will seem like a excellant year. Then the trend will continue until you have went through 3 more head coaches. Sour grapes much.
Cardinals slipped into basball playoffs two years in a row and were a better playing team than those who won their divisions, going on a roll and winning one WS and nearly getting into a 2nd.
Tech is a better team than our record shows and we may well give all future foes a decent game.
Our drawback was refuse to blitz D coor Al Groh who cost us both the VT and Miami games.
Get a life those who want to put us down.

Tech’s 5-3 league record cannot be matched by any bowl-eligible team in the Coastal Division.

There’s your sign…

GT going to the conference championship, when considering our record of not beating a single ranked team, does not bode well for the ACC. Our conference is statistically weak when one takes note that against Top 25 opponents the ACC has posted only 2 wins against 23 losses, without a single win by a Coastal division school.

We have given up 326 points so far and still have to face Georgia.
We have already allowed five opponents to hang 40 or more points on us.
We have a chance against UGA, but slim; no chance against FSU; and we don’t deserve the gift.

@Destin Gator:
Name one team in history of BCS ranked 118th in passing offense that finished in top 5 or even Top 10?
Bet you can’t do it.
The BCS has been proven wrong TIME and TIME again. If this system justifies your stance, then you will use it. If it doesn’t justify your stance then you detract from it. The fact remains that the BCS is NOT an accurate portrayal of the CFB rankings. Did you happen to watch any football this past weekend? It was proven wrong just 2 days ago. The SEC has a self-fulfilling prophecy. You can objectively see that the SEC (besides Bama) is not the utopia of football it appeared in the past few years. If you can’t see that, there is no reason for rational discussion.

Consider this...

November 19th, 2012
12:52 pm

@ Bad Dawg, Bad Dawg

“Consider this…..Consider this: Since UGA’s only national championship 32 YEARS BACK…Bama has won 4, LSU 2, Gators 2, Auburn 1, Vols 1 and Tech 1. Now mind you that means Bama has 14 total, LSU has 3, Gator have 3, Auburn has 2, Vols 6 and Tech 4. UGA 1 and only 1 and you’re an elite program in the SEC. I think the elites are listed above. Numbers don’t lie, people do.”

You’re a moron. UGA has been credited with 2 National Championships by consensus (1942 and 1980). And it is a “what have you done for me lately world.” And lately, Mark Richt has won at least a share of the the SEC East championship in 6 of 12 years and taken UGA to the SEC championship game 4 of those years. In that span, UGA has won 2 SEC championships and finished in the final top 10 rankings for 5 or 6 of those years, depending on which polls you look at. This season will mark a 6th or 7th finish in the final top 10 rankings in a 12-year span. To expand those numbers a little more, UGA has finished in the top 25 in 10 of the past 12 seasons.

THAT is why UGA is considered to be in the upper echelon of college football. I don’t hear anyone calling UGA elite though…the Dawgs have to win another National Championship to earn that. You, however, have left me laughing with your inclusion of Tech, Tennessee and Auburn as your elite teams…especially Tech. 10 of 11 and soon to be 11 of 12…Go Dawgs! We are Dawgs always, but we are also exterminators every 12th game of season.

Focus on UGA, if we cannot be UGA we cannot beat FSU. UGA can be beaten, they have been and GT can do it if they focus and play a game like they did against UNC or Duke. Although 75 yard drives against UGA will be much tougher than Duke and we will not do it every time like we did against Duke so I hope we opt for a mixture of both with emphasis on the UNC style win. Vad, however, must be prepared for some hits (some very questionable) especially if things start clicking. I saw the Dawgs spear Eddie Lee Ivory in the back at UGA (we still won) to take him out of the game and I have seen them do similar things to other players who started to do well in the game. I even remember the game at UGA where Vince did not cover the field when it rained all week prior on purpose to slow down the running game – that did not work either. The Dawgs will do anything to win and ethics never enters into it for them.

Yeah, it’s not an elegant way to get to the championship, but nonsense on not taking advantage of this opportunity. Never thought Sarah Palin was qualified to be VP (or Biden either), but she made the most of the nomination and did well when opportunity knocked. GT can too. Remember, a couple of plays here or there and Tech would have been 7-1 in conference play and no one would be questioning all of this. Tech certainly did not have its “A” game at the start of the season and I still think there is more headroom for improvement. It’s time to execute now—two really tough games ahead and it’s a chance to make a statement. So get focused guys and let’s not squander this second chance on an awesome season—except winning the NC, all of Tech’s goals are still available—granted the betting odds are that we go 6-8 but going 9-5 is a mathematical possibility. We’ve been given new life—let’s make the most of it.

I have sat & read all of the posts here up until now. Some say we should not be proud of the football team’s record this year. So many smart people seem to have a huge lack of reading comprehension, common sense and basic understanding of things. Not many Tech folks are overly proud of the record. It has been a schizophrenic season. I don’t guess the players themselves are too proud of being 6 & 5 going into the Georgie game either. What we as fans, and the players too, should be proud of is the fact that the guys have regrouped & turned things around. They have fought hard to get bowl eligible and done so. They have a real chance at proving to the world that they are worthy of respect. They have a real chance of winning 3 more games. They will continue to work and improve, They deserve for all Tech people to root for them to the end. Win, lose or draw, they are our Yellow Jackets. They have learned how to pull themselves up & carry on. They have all proven themselves to be hard working, persevering men that do not quit, but fight thru adversities & find a way to win & reach for their goals. They are a fine tribute to the Institute. Why can’t all GT fans take pride in the young men that play hard for their pleasure. You “fans” that sit on your butts and criticize these young men, and I have done some of it myself after the bad games but was back to being supportive of their efforts by Monday evenings (2 days of pouting & sulking & stewing), should be so ashamed of yourselves. How can you call yourselves Tech fans? Some of the comments from some of the so called Tech fans make me wonder how you relate to your families and coworkers. For all the UGA joksters out there, think about the last time UGA played both LSU and AL in the same year. Three years running. Is GA still in the SEC? FL and SC sure are. SC was thumping GA 35-0 before the scrubbs came in. FL turned the ball over 6 times. Vandy is the only other GA victory over a winning SEC team. As of last weekend, KY, TN, and AU where SEC winless. GA struggled against KY and TN. Now that is a worthy BSC #3 ranking…

All you UGA fans on here telling me my team deserves nothing. Well, we don’t violate rules for the most part with CPJ at the helm and so, we are available for the title game. I think its actually justice served. We lost those games in overtime but they were really close, so I think we deserve to go. WE had an out of conference let down so far. This week is the week to correct that. The reason I am optimistic (not pounding my chest saying we gonna kill somebody) is that the offense can score. The last two times when Johnson beat FSU we outscored them. This team is not as bad as the record states. I love these SEC fans who think that the rest of the nation plays “different” football than them. We will get our chance to ruin the season of that school that states its the first public university (even though it took like twenty years to graduate somebody – UNC beat you on that) Scoring 150 points in 3 games makes me feel better about these match ups. But we were ahead in Clemson game and 3 yards from scoring. OT in other 2 conference games. all our conference games were winnable so I think we do deserve to go. We have never had to self impose a season ban like Miami has had to for two seasons.

Let’s look at FSU and GT’s common opponents and make a comparison, since–as some GT fans think–FSU isn’t greater than their team:
GT lost to VTech, Miami, MidTenState, Clemson, and BYU. MTSU and BYU aren’t common, so they are out…although embarassing loses for GT.
FSU beat VTech, Miami and Clemson. Miami was beaten rather handily.

Let’s look further: GT’s defense is 78th in nation in giving up points/game (29.6pts) and is 119th in passing (no real surprise there as your offense is predicated on the run first–which makes you 3rd in the nation on rushing yards). GT has the 61st ranked total defense in nation (40 vs run and 86th vs pass).
FSU’s defense is 5th in the nation in giving up the fewest points/game (13.1pts) and is regarded as one of the best defenses in the nation (coincidentally #1 in nation vs the run). FSU’s offense is 14th in the nation (source NCAA.com). GT is 28th. GT’s defense, again, is 61st. FSU’s offense is 32nd in passing offense and 24th in the run.
Against the 61st ranked defense of GT, FSU will roll. I am not sure if some of you have watched GTech games this year, but there’s no real surprise in how defenses have stopped you: mitigate the run and place them in long 3rd downs (making them pass).
I know you want to have some pride about your team, and congrats on making the ACCCG, but just be real. Al Groh, your previous DC got fired, and your defense still hasn’t improved. Most of you wanted Paul Johnson fired (even some in these comments). Your offense MUST be effective or your defense is stuck in “prevent defense” the whole game. I am not sure how you cannot objectively look at the ACCCG (and even the UGA game) and not see an apparent smacking. I know this is a blog and you want to be boastful behind your keyboard, but just look at the facts.

Well, if nothing else, it’s going to be very interesting. After this past weekend, you just never know. On paper, we don’t figure to be even close in either of these games, but the last I looked, games are not played on paper – they are played on the field.

I’m proud of how GT has persevered and hung in there when most of us had thrown in the towel. I just hope that these guys pull together and play the two most complete games of the year – win or lose. And for the UGA fans and their comments – yes, you are highly ranked and have a great record. You had a schedule that, for the SEC, was easy, but you still had to play each game. I know many of you are “dogging” GT and we are used to it. You have more fans, more 4 and 5 star players, etc. Chances are you will win this Saturday and continue your dominance over us. However, if you do win, I challenge you to win with a little class. If we happen to win, I promise to do the same.

GO JACKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Rational One—your commentary is quite logical, but with 18 to 21 year olds, emotion, momentum, a bad call, a fluke play can change a game—I think KSU was supposed to smack down Baylor and that didn’t happen. So the odds are heavily in UGAs favor, but let the kids play it out and as Jacket Dad pointed out, may the winner show class in their victory.

Awesome to see that we will be headed to the ACC championship game.

In both the UGA game and the FSU game, we need the B-backs to average more than 4 yards/carry. The success of the B-back results in bigger spacing out in the perimeter for the A-backs and the QB. Its also the biggest indicator of whether we will be able to get score in droves or if we will have a long day ahead of us (at least on the offensive side). Both UGA and FSU have athletic D-lines and our number 1 objective would be to open up holes for the B-backs (and I’m sure the No.1 goal for UGA and FSU is to stop the inside runs). The next priority is our passing. We need to complete more than 60% of those and not just complete them but to get huge gains out of them. Need to prevent the teams from crowding the line and at least respect the passing game. If we can get those two going (in that order), I think we have a chance at winning the game. Again, its a tall task to try and contain the D-line of both our opponents in the next two games. Then again, our defense needs to step it up as well. We need to play like we did in the 1st 3 quarters of the Clemson game except for 4 quarters now.

At any rate, congrats to the yellow jackets for persevering through this season and not giving it up (especially after the MTSU game). Not only are we now bowl eligible we might even go to a BCS bowl. Wow. Long shot, sure but as Jim Carey’s character in Dumb & Dumber said after being told he had an one-in-a-million-chance of hooking up with Lauren Holly’s character, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance… *YEAH!*”.

Exactly what corner do you think we are turning here? Beating Duke? Seriously?!?! Beating a Maryland team with a LB playing QB? Gailey got fired after seasons better than the last 3 years. This isnt some delusional national title wish list either. We got RUN OUT by MTSU…MTSU!!! We are 6-5 despite having played the two worst teams in the Atlantic instead of FSU. My biggest fear is that Johnson will pull off the upset, and everyone will latch onto it like fools gold just like in 2008. In 5 years, Johnson has never beaten anyone even decent that has had a week or more to prepare for him. Think about that.

For school pride? Sure. But lets stop pretending Johnson is some kind of commodity here. Washington will graduate, then teams will start scheming for Vad Lee, just like they did Washington and Nesbitt before him.

1 4 GT: I agree 100%. This team persevered and didn’t give up. They got in to the ACCCG because everyone else in the coastal conference didn’t step up when they needed to step up (i.e. Duke, UNC). Miami did forfeit its entry into the ACCCG but even if they didn’t, they still would have had to win against Duke to have gotten into the ACCCG. For those who say we’ll embarrass ourselves in the game I have this to say; did we embarrass ourselves against Clemson which to their credit have only one-loss? We can play with the big-boys. We still have to step-up our game and need to play 4 quarters but we have a chance of even winning the game. Ditto for UGA. Most objective Tech fans know in terms of talent, UGA is above us (as has always been the case within my life time). On paper, UGA should win the game. SHOULD. But that’s why we play the game.

@GT Fan – SC lost to Auburn last year…the same Auburn that UGA and everyone any good blew out. That’s why they lost the division to UGA. It didnt matter what happened in the Arkansas game. The same thing applies this year. South Carolina got blown out by a Florida team UGA pretty much handled a week later. SC keeps beating UGA, but losing their tie breaker because they cant beat the other teams UGA is beating.

Unless they lose to Duke, Miami won the Coastal, but is giving it up to hold down NCAA sanctions. That’s a totally different situation.

Ryan is still credited with 5 int’s & it would have been a whole lot easier to win without them. Yeah, I know Georgie had to make a play to get the to’s, but it is still a TURNOVER! And it’s hard for any team to win making to’s. But you go on making excuses. You know and I know, without those turnovers, Georgie would have had a much harder time pulling off a win. Florida was about to score to get a lead of 16 or 17 (2 pt PAT) to 10 lead in the game. Do you know for sure Georgie would have pulled it out? I think not. Final 17-9.

All the naysayers, high IQ armchair QBs, etc. It really doesn’t matter your opinions. Tech players and coaches put in the time just like other teams. Are they Lucky? Luck is preparation meeting opportunity. Let’s just see how the games play out. Sometimes the “seemingly” impossible shifts to reality. Perhaps an unorthodox way of getting into the game, but you play with the cards you’re dealt. And if Duke beats Miami Saturday, then we didn’t back into anything! I have to laugh at all of the Red & Black wearing inbreeders on here. You are no more the 3rd best team in this country than I am Superman!! You have played a total pansy schedule and got completely blown out by a mediocre South Carolina team, whereas several of the other 1-loss teams lost close games to legitimately high-ranked opponents. UGA is a very good (albeit entirely undisciplined) team, but they are nowhere near as good as the trailer park inhabitants seem to think.
The Dawgs SHOULD blow out Tech saturday, but I’ve already got money down that it doesn’t happen. UGA may very well win (They should, given all of the “5-star” talent on that team) but it won’t be a blowout. Your defense isn’t good enough to stop our offense, especially with Vad at the helm (This assuming that CPJ doesn’t get stupid and leave Tevin in again), but our defense is absolutely horrible, so it should be a high-scoring affair, similar to the Tech-UNC game week before last. We also have history in our favor: I’ve been a Tech fan for going on a half century now, and without exception, EVERY season we sneek up and B-slap some team that should have killed us. But that hasn’t happened yet this season, so we’re due one. If the dwags make the mistake of looking ahead to Bama, they will be in for a VERY bad day. And if they don’t they should win handily — but doesn’t it feel good to know that you dwags are irrelevant at this point to us. Losing to UGA would have absolutely no influence on our season, because we will still have a MUCH bigger game coming up the next weekend (and a BCS berth at stake). On the other hand, if Tech were to knock UGA right out of the NC picture……………….. Let’s just say that the trembling Chihuahuas have a LOT more to lose than we do, which is very much to our benefit!

Seems I’ve read an inordinate amount of chest-thumping the past couple of days on these AJC blogs about Tech’s national championship a couple of decades ago. It may be beneficial to remember that it was actually 1/3 of a national championship since the 2 other major polls voted Colorado champion. There’s also the fact that, to earn that championship, Tech beat a mediocre, 4-loss Nebraska team in a non-major bowl (Citrus). The mists of time can cloud memories . . .

Also, seeing as how Tech’s lone ACC championship was vacated for cheating, does anyone have a clue when GT last earned a true, undisputed football championship of any kind? And how many championships UGA has won since?

Just an FYI Tech has already secured a share of the Coastal division, Miami still needs to beat Duke in order to grab their share. In other words Miami hasn’t given us anything yet, they are currently 4-3 in the ACC, Tech is 5-3, we can’t finish any worse but the canes can. All this announcement means that Georgia Tech will represent the Coastal Division regardless of what happens Saturday.

Also show some humility dwags, if South Carolina played the same SEC teams you did you’d be sitting at home on December 1st, you benefited greatly by the expansion, your game against Bama got changed to a division game against Mizzou, South Carolina still had to play LSU.

And enough with the “joke of a program nonsense” we’ve been bowl eligible 16 straight seasons, and we’re tied with y’all for the 4th longest active bowl streak. Jokes don’t perform that well for that long of a time, besides if y’all held your football players to the same standards you do incoming non-athletes, you would not be doing nearly as well.

hats off to them. Momentum over rules naysayers!!! It could happen but the probabilities
are stacked against them. Just do it and talk later.
