Georgia Tech quoteboard

“It was an exciting game. Awfully proud of our team. Thought they continued to play hard. It was very similar to last week’s game in a lot of ways except there wasn’t as much scoring. The drives were longer. We got some big plays; some guys made some plays to keep drives alive. I don’t know what the time of possession was, it had to be pretty good. We had the ball a lot of time, yeah 38-21. You do that, and you’ll usually do OK.”

Paul Johnson, describing the game

“I thought Tevin Washington played a great game. Vad’s play was huge on fourth down, getting the ball in the end zone. I thought he did some good things, but Tevin had the hot hand and was doing well, so we left him in there this time.”

Johnson on the quarterbacks

“It’s not in my nature to quit or give up. The kids didn’t give up. It’s like I said, I wasn’t going to throw the season away. I never was convinced the season was over. Did the season to this point turn out the way we had liked? No, but it’s not a complete wash either.

“We have a chance to go in there next week and who knows? I’m sure nobody gives us much of a chance, but that’s why you play the game.”

Johnson on the Coastal Division race and playing Georgia

“That’s great. I’m excited for the kids. That was one of the goals. You have to get in one and to get one. I’m excited the kids will get another chance.”

Johnson on being bowl-eligible

“I don’t really look at the list, I look at the schedule. I just take it one game at a time. I could care less about the records right now. I’m just focused on making sure we get wins.”

Tevin Washington on the records he’s broken

“Guys will be fired up going into this game. This is on our goal board: Beat UGA. I think guys are licking their chops to get a chance to go to Athens next week and play.”

Washington on Georgia

“It was a missed assignment on my part. I was supposed to block (a cornerback). When I saw that I wasn’t going to make it, I stopped so I wouldn’t get a penalty. Then I ducked down so the ball would clear me.

“All I know is the ball popped out of Chris Jackson’s hands and I said, ‘Hey, we need a play right now.’ So I just took it and ran with it. Luckily I got the first down.”

Tackle Ray Beno on his catch

“The first half of the season didn’t go our way. I think after BYU, I think we said we have to step up as a unit. If we don’t go, the offense doesn’t go. We decided to step it up and kept that mindset the last three games that we weren’t going to be stopped.”

Beno on the line’s progress

“Emotions will be running high that week, as they always are. Every year it comes. I wouldn’t say we prepare harder, but we kind of do. We know these guys have a record on us right now, and we want to end it. They have a good squad. We’ll look forward to going back to work on Monday and going after them next Saturday.”

Hopefully Upset Saturday will have a reprieve next week. It’s going to take a perfect effort by Tech or a sloppy performance by UGA to pull out the win. Just play like it’s the last game of your lives.

This will be a tough game, but stop the wide receiver slants and crossing patterns on 3rd downs and we can slow them down on offense. They do it every year and we seem to give up big plays off simple slant passes. Secondly, find a way to put some pressure on Murray and he will put it up for grabs. Let’s not play soft and give them time to run their offense. Be disruptive and make big plays. These guys struggled against an average Georgia Southern team. We can beat them if everybody shows up for 4 quarters and makes plays. Go Jackets!

Get to Murray and move the ball and time of possession and will beat UGA.

There have been a lot of big plays this year, both positive and negative for the Jackets. But, based on the situation, Beno’s play may be the biggest. If he does not make that play, Duke gets the ball at mid field with a chance to take the lead and grab the momentum for the second half. Instead, we go ahead by eleven a few minutes later. Great play Beno, you may have single handedly kept the bowl streak alive!

Hope CPJ is ready to play Vad against the Dawgs and doesn’t wait until it’s “too late” to put him in the game. UGA is ready to stuff the option. Only way to make is work is to open it up with passing. Not sure if Tevin can do that, but time will tell…

Our defensive mind trust is going to have to come up with a different scheme to stop UGA’s passing attack. Got to get some pressure on Murray. If you let him have plenty of time to pick out a receiver, he is deadly. When he gets some pressure, he is a totally different QB.

lack of playing time versus duke hurts him for the uga game. Looks like CPJ has already decided on Tevin….wake me up when it’s over

Ken – formatting the quotes in bold letters is certainly an improvement. However, the quotes are responses to questions and therefore the question stub should precede the quote rather than follow it. It will make this feature more readable.

UGA was preranked no, 1 in 08 and didn’t matter, Tech won. GT has a shot. All we need to do is win by 1 as CPJ would say “45 is better than 42″

Here’s CPJ after the Duke win:

If Tech can dominate time of possession AND THEY CAN!!–they can certainly win the game. There is nothing more frustrating than to not have the ball and all these 4 star defensive players the UGLY dawgs have we be sucking air.

Supersize, slow down now. Nobody wants a win over UGAG more than I, but Tech’s defense has been more than suspect this season. That being said, UGA is more than capable of being beaten this week. Their entire body of win over a ranked team…total beat down by USC…looking ahead at their latest BCS ranking… suggests they are ripe for an upset. But it will take Tech’s best effort to pull off the win. You are correct though, they truly are nothing, or insignificant on the national scene, regardless of what their delusional fan base believes. Last and only NC over thirty years ago.

We are going to have to play lights out to win this weekend. Last year it seemed like the team was not fired up to play.

I know our offense is capable of scoring more than Ga Southern.
Can our D play UGA better than Ga Southern? I hope so.
