Georgia Tech quoteboard

“A flashback. I’ve been in a couple of those at Navy. That’s the first one I’ve been in here, but I’m proud of our guys. They came back in the second half and defensively, we got the turnover, got a couple stops.”

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson on the game

“It was a crazy game. It didn’t seem like the game was ever going to end.”

“We used two different fronts throughout the game, and I’m not sure either one of them had much success. We went with the 3-4 and a 4-3 and mixed it up throughout the game and whether they ran it or threw it, we didn’t have much success or any consistency.”

North Carolina coach Larry Fedora on Tar Heels’ defense

“This game was kind of like the ACC championship game in ’09, actually, with Clemson, except it was taking the teams longer to score, but you didn’t want to miss a turn.”

Johnson on game’s frenetic scoring pace

“We’ll see when we go back. He played pretty good, though.”

Johnson on if Lee will supplant Tevin Washington as the starter

“They break a lot of tackles, especially (No.) 26. He’s got great balance. When he stiff-arms you, he keeps his balance really well.”

Outside linebacker Brandon Watts on North Carolina running backs, particularly Giovani Bernard

“Once I saw the quarterback fumble the snap, I saw the ball lying there and I tried to dive and get it. When I dove for it, a couple people were hitting my head at the same time, knocked me out a little bit.”

Safety Isaiah Johnson on his first-quarter fumble recovery that led to a touchdown

“I would say last week was similar to this week because I felt like last week was probably the first time guys we’re not giving up and playing hard. They did the same thing this week. As long as we keep that up, I feel like we’ll have some success.”

A-back Orwin Smith

“He’s basically a freshman, but he’s coming out and running the offense like he’s a vet.”

A-back Robbie Godhigh on quarterback Vad Lee

“We checked the play at the line and then it was really just Orwin and the corner out there, and Orwin blocked him out, and I cut up, and there wasn’t really anybody else back there.”

Godhigh on his 27-yard touchdown run in the third quarter

“We stuck with right return the whole first half, so they were just trying to pin it in, pin it in, and we kind of caught them overpursuing, so Coach (David Walkosky) called a left return, so this one was actually planned to go left unlike the last one.”

Jamal Golden on his second kickoff return for a touchdown in three games

“I’ve played against it for three years, four years now. I think last year we did O.K. with it, the other years it kind of gassed us. You just have to be disciplined and that’s it. The coaches were telling us all week, ‘Do your job, do your job,’ and guys didn’t come out and do that today.”

North Carolina linebacker Kevin Reddick

Vad Lee was validated yesterday!! In doing so – we all saw the difference in the offense / defense / special teams – and the resulting win.
