Notes: Attaochu named ACC linebacker of the week

1. Georgia Tech outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu was named the ACC’s linebacker of the week for his performance against Maryland. Attaochu matched his career high with three sacks against the Terrapins, as well as a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and six tackles.

Attaochu previously earned the same recognition last September with a three-sack game against North Carolina, Tech’s opponent this coming Saturday.

He’s the second Tech player to earn ACC player of the week recognition this season, following offensive tackle Will Jackson being named offensive lineman of the week after the Virginia game.

2. The kickoff time for Tech’s Nov. 17 home game against Duke will not be announced until next Sunday. ESPN took a six-day option to determine game times for the five Nov. 17 games under its control. The kickoff times will be either noon, 12:30 p.m., 3 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. It’s the final home game of the year for Tech.

3. Men’s basketball coach Brian Gregory’s first radio show of the season will be Monday night, broadcast live from STATS in downtown Atlanta at 7 p.m. The show will be broadcast on 790 the Zone and 106.7 FM.

4. North Carolina is a 5.5-point favorite for Saturday’s game.

5. Kind of a crazy piece of fallout from Maryland scoring on the final play of the game. Some oddsmakers set the over/under at 46. With the touchdown with no time remaining, the final score became 33-13. If you’re wondering, it’s by NCAA rules that no extra-point try was attempted after the touchdown. The same thing happened in the Virginia game, if you remember. If the extra point has no bearing on the final outcome, it isn’t taken.

With Attaochu’s great play, a 5th string qb went 50% with 2 TDs. We are going to need another great game from him and other players to step it up. A steller performance on offense wouldn’t hurt either. GO JACKETS!!!!

under Groh – read – keep position then react = no headlines = no 4 – 5 star recruits. We need to get the ball back to the offense ASAP – even if they score. The TO will wear down the other team!

attaochu and the rest of the defense looked good against maryland last week, no matter who the qb was:

3rd Down Efficiency 5-15, 33%

Rushes-Yards 44-144

Passing Yards 115

Total Yards 259

for comparison’s sake, the number 1 defense in the nation at alabama averages 24% 3rd down efficiency against, and 72 yards rushing, 112 yards passing and 183 total yards against per game.

that’s the gold standard, of course, and a good goal to strive towards.

keep it up, yellow jackets. bust your @ss to get better each day. you have lots of people who believe in ya!

I watched the Falcons game last night and I saw a team that played hard for 4 quarters. I wonder if there might be any way to get the game video & a couple of the Falcons guys, maybe Ryan & Samuels to talk to them & give them something to aspire to. Just wishful thinking, I know. I would use anything to pump my guys up if I was coach.

Go Get’em Sneezy! I like the way you play young man. And while you’re going, take the whole defense with you & lead the way to finishing the season strong & on the upswing!!!! GOOOOO JACKETS THWGeorgie

I saw a falcons team that struggled for 3 quarters and didn’t wake up until the 4th. On that note, have the falcons played anybody with a winning record?

@ Really?…….as the mutts always say, it doesn’t matter whom they beat, as long as they win. The same is true of the Falcons. A win is a win

Heck, Obvious @3:32 pm, think of it as the AJC performing a civic duty if you wish. If they didn’t have Ken making blog posts, you wouldn’t have a place to waste time trolling. And THEN what would you be doing with your free time? Probably out stealin’ something from working folks, or tripping little old ladies on street corners, etc.

So, thanks AJC for keeping degenerates like Obvious off the streets, if only for a little while.

Oh, and Obvious, you have a blessed day……

Well he did play great but I just wished the D had dome more in the VPI & Miami games and we would be sitting pretty in the ACC.

Will this be the week that Vegas puts an over/under on season-ending injuries for a Maryland player?

This is unbelievable for the Terps. They’ve got my sympathies!

=================

Maryland’s string of season-ending ACL tears continued this past weekend when starting middle linebacker Demetrius Hartsfield suffered the same injury on a running play with 2:20 remaining in the second quarter of Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech.

Congrats… We need another great outing vs UNC. Got to win 2 of the 3 games… Crossing fingers. A win at UNC would be great. Certainly would give us a chance to go bowling. UNC and Duke are winable games. UGA is just a little too strong. But, on any given Saturday.. things can happen. Go Jackets.

I’m not counting us out of any game. In my opinion Pauls offense had been shut down only a handful of times. All games except for one have been competitive with Johnson against uga. Vad is a freshman. Think how this offense is gonna sing next three years. The way I see it he is already as effective as washing ton as a backup freshman. I also like the energy level. So just work on hiring a defensive coachand finding a good b back. offense is still doing its thing.

wreckbone, granted PJ’s offense was clicking when Nez was the qb and Dwyer was the star rb, with Thomas as the main receiver, but can all the teams in the country be wrong using the shotgun instead of the wreckbone?

ddr….so what’s wrong with being unique? Isn’t that part of why you went to Tech? I like being unique myself. Thoreau said it best, to parapharse….”Let each man step to his own drummer, no matter how measured or far away”. Some won’t understand that, but I imagine most all Techsters will.

@www… Good pts. Both TDs were just excellent plays made by diggs to add to that. The D had a solid game. I don’t want to be a negative nancy. I’m just worried that if a practice squad lb with 7 days to prepare has a 50% completion percentage and 2 TDs what will Renner do to us? Bottom line it is do or die for these next 2 games and we need to everyone to put in their best effort of the season. I hope we keep this momentum and win out like we are definately capable of doing.

I find it odd that UNC intends to announce its self-imposed penalties after postseason game eligibility is determined. I guess that is supposed to keep the team inspired.

i think you’re thinking of miami. but, yes, i find it interesting. a cynical person would say they’re waiting to see if they can get to the acc title game before deciding.
