Live blog: Georgia Tech-Maryland

Greetings –

A few thoughts on Georgia Tech-Maryland.

1. Obviously, how Maryland quarterback Shawn Petty can do is going to have a large impact on the outcome. Look for Georgia Tech to stick just about everybody in the box.

2. Tevin Washington will start. I’d guess both play a lot in the first half.

3. Kind of breezy. That could mean less passing than normal for both sides. This game could be over in 2:45.

4. Don’t know if you saw it, but Miami may self-impose a bowl ban to pacify the NCAA. Story from the Sun-Sentinel here. If that happens – Miami won’t make an announcement until it becomes bowl eligible – it would mean that if Tech wins today and Virginia Tech loses this Thursday to Florida State, the Jackets would control their own destiny in the Coastal Division. Crazy.

5. Tiny crowd. Maryland won’t get much of a lift at home, it doesn’t appear.

And I thought our stadium felt empty sometimes…my goodness it’s empty.

Less passing for Tech? Does that mean 3 passes instead of the usual 5?

The ACC signed KISS to do pregame intro?
God help us.

Is it me or did the GT punter look like he wasn’t far enough back from the line of scrimmage? They looked like they almost got to him.

Nice play calling. Just keep running it up the middle against a team that stuffs the run. PJ wants to prove he can do it and it will cost us another game.

2-10 record will empty your stadium.

Don’t question where the punter is. PJ says he knows more than the fans and you should just shut up and watch. His special teams coach is great and has it under control.

Ignore that fumble. Special teams is just fine. They practice it every day.

Looked like Golden MIGHT have had his foot out of bounds when the ball was stripped, but I guess not :(

I’m back again this week hoping for better results. Not starting off to hot, but the defense started out ok.

Looks like the firing of Freigen has not produced great dividends so far.
Fired after winning ACC Coach of the Year Award.

Against a 5th string QB who until last week was a Linebacker. Anything else would have been bad. This is to be expected against the offense Maryland has right now.

Yes, the punter was again lined up too close and they did almost block it. This must be by design, Stupid!!

5th string QB or not, the defense looks like they are playing with intensity for a change. And they’re tackling too…..SO FAR

There is no way to prove this thought but I do not think Freigen goes 2-10.
Well at least Maryland, by being crummy the new coach’s first years, will not have the winning with someone else’s player argument that we struggle with.
Randy’s strategy is not to raise expectations until year 5.

Ken…please make a note….ask about the punter lining up 12 yards from the LOS rather than 15 yards as has been the norm for years. Thanks in advance.

Fire the assistant.
Fire the head coach.
Fire the AD.
And fire the president.
If any of the firings are not done immediately.

1 4 GT, someone asked PJ about the punts on the call in show. He basically said that they knew what they were doing with the formation and the special teams coach is a great coach so it is ok.

@ibidGT: Honestly, if there’s any offense that could constantly go for two point conversions and get, it’s ours. We’re best on 3 or less yard situations.

Without the three missed field goals in the 2011 bowl game, our downward spiral might not have happened.
Once again, no way to prove it.

Biff, it looks like you and I are on the same page concerning Johnson. He has been flexible about everything except the offense. He is starting Washington just to let the fans know that he is running the show his way. If he starts Washington against Duke, he’ll get booed out BDS. His act is boring.
