Georgia Tech quoteboard

“There’s no tape on the quarterback, but they stayed pretty much within their scheme. They ran some zone-read plays. They didn’t run as many bubble screens, but we knew the guy would probably try to run the ball and they would try some zone-read plays. The first half, we did a better job of defending it than we did the second half.”

Coach Paul Johnson on Maryland’s game plan with linebacker-turned-quarterback Shawn Petty

“We actually watched high school film on the guy. I felt like that was different.”

Defensive end Euclid Cummings on preparing for Petty

“I started feeling more comfortable in the second half. In the first half, I was a bit antsy and the speed of the game was much faster then. I calmed down and played faster and let the game come to me.”

Petty on his performance

“He’s been the starting quarterback. That’s why he started.”

Johnson on starting Tevin Washington

“One thing about Synjyn, he’s always going to run hard. He’s got a real hard head so he doesn’t care.”

Quarterback Vad Lee on A-back Synjyn Days

“From what I could see, we were getting to our gaps and getting down, but it was kind of bouncing out sometimes or bouncing back. That kind of opened up the defense and got us all on different levels, which put cracks in the defense, so they could just slide it through.”

Inside linebacker Quayshawn Nealy explaining how Maryland ran the ball more effectively in the second half

“I think so. He’s from Maryland. He was fired up coming off the plane.”

Defensive end Euclid Cummings on if playing close to home motivated outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu

“Just from getting ready for the first quarter, guys were amping up, getting ready, just jumping up and down, just amping each other up. You could definitely tell the difference during the game.”

A-back Orwin Smith on the team’s energy level

“Get to go back home, play UNC. I’m really excited about that. I know I’ll have a lot of family at the game. Hopefully, I’ll play and hopefully we get a win.”

Lee, from Durham, N.C., on next week’s game at North Carolina

“That’s on us as coaches in terms of the toss sweep. That was something that was a little different for them and we weren’t able to shut that play down. I don’t think that we tackled as well as we needed to and we got cut too much on cut blocks.”

Maryland coach Randy Edsall on defending Tech’s running game

“Making sure we finish our blocks, making sure we get the guy down, whether we had to cut ’em or just stand up and just push ’em out of the way. The safeties and the corners, they really weren’t coming down too hard most of the time. I would just stay up and block them.”

Thought Days looked pretty good. Didn’t go down after one or two hits. Glad to see him get some PT. Lee looks like the real deal. Like to see more of him in the next games. Very disappointed in the D giving up a passing TD on the last play. To much like the D that gave up 4th qtr TDs against VT & others.

@ ramblingbuzz……that disappointed me too, but it wasn’t the first team defense

I didn’t get to see the game since I was on the road, but I heard Wes Durham’s call on the radio. I couldn’t BELIEVE we gave up the late touchdown … even if it wasn’t the first string defense. I love my Jackets, but I surely would like to see the defense play a complete, 4-quarter game. Who knows? Maybe it’ll come right after Thanksgiving!

I appreciate your coverage of GT but aren’t most of the quotes transposed?

GT Defense looks slow most of the time, except for J.Thomas.The late fourth quarter collapse has been a constant all season for the Defense.

A losing coach shouldn’t be as arrogant as Johnson.. Humility will go a long way with fans even if you’re losing. Washington is the starter and that’s why he started, really.

Break me off a piece of that….
Stop being soo negative all the time. CPJ is the best coach we have had in a long while. Who cares if he is arrogant… I would call it confidence in his decisions and coaching ability. I would much rather have a confident coach who averages around 35 points per game. He just needs a good new DC now. Please don’t get it wrong this time. True fans shouldn’t be negative like this though and be happy, we won, by a lot.

Flowery Branch – I’m onboard with you. We never, ever play 4 full quarters. That’s why I love tennis. The player that wins the very last point is always the winner. It’s tough to win a game that ends like that. Alabama we are not!

Give Me a Break – I agree. He can be a real ass. GTRanj – you are wrong on so many terms. There is a difference between confidence and being an ass. And I think George O’leary would probably be considered better – and that was not that long ago.

A team with a linebacker at quarterback…who couldn’t beat them! Tech football is a disgrace! It’s time for a change but that won’t happen and the program will continue to get worst!

No one is talking about what the TO did to the #4 defense in the country. I don’t think MD was laying with QBs on defense. Honestly, thought BYU looked better on D than MD.

Give me a BREAK Coach Z…. Maryland was terrible! Defense and offense. That number 4 defense just got beat by BC… I mean good grief, some of you people have no idea! Our offense sucks as bad as our defense. Period. Sorry, I just can’t take it anymore… :) I knew that the offensive gurus on this site would chirp up when we finally score against a less than average team…

George O’Leary!? He is a blowhard and a mediocre coach: he also quit on Tech.

Johnson ain’t going unless we get another crook at AD like Dave Braine. Johnson is a helluva coach and you gals can either keep your panites in a bunch or get on board. It does not matter. Tech might not lose another game and they might not win another game, but they will get better next year and the year after with Johnson at the helm. The BYU game was a disappointment but the team is playing better defense and the offense has begun to click. If the wide outs could catch the ball it would really click.

He went to ND. Who wouldn’t? That has nothing to do with whether he is a good coach or not. I think if you ask 100 experts (not you), they would say GO is a better coach than PJ.

Uga = yawn my friend you have no clue.
Sure I’ll give you that buy shut down the offense, every team gets shut down on offense every once in a while. But ask any fan base at te start of the season how would you feel if your team sarge 35 points per game this year. Who would say no o that. Maybe you would since you are the one who is wrong on so many levels. If you like CGO so much go support him where ever he is and stop posting on here. Believe me nobody will miss you, I promise. Another thing since CPJ has been here te offense has been averaging over 30 ppg. I think he deserve to be confident. We will be a good team next year with a new D and a great one the year after once the D settles in. Here’s me wishing you farewell Uganda = yawn, tell CGO hey for us.

we have a new insider into the Tech football program guys!!

Please tell us who is in the mix for the defensive coordinator position??

Is it just me or does GT have some pretty good players at the skill positions on offense? I maybe crazy but when I see the speed and ability of some of these guys I think we should be a lot better than we are. For example. V Lee, Days, Sims, Godhigh, Bostic, Zenon, Golden.. What’s missing, O linemen? A passing game to counter-balance the running game? Different play calling? For sure we are missing a capable defense. Even there I see some players with pretty good potential. Is CPJ right that we’re not that far away from having a really good team? These next 3 games should be a pretty good indicator.

Does anyone know why we aren’t recruiting the Thomson High RB? Perfect B-back prospect.
