A few notes for Georgia Tech-BYU
1. David Scully won’t play. Justin Moore will take field goals and extra points. Looks like maybe Chris Tanner will handle the kickoffs.
2. Tech is wearing white helmets, white jerseys, white pants. It’s the same combination worn for the Virginia Tech game.
3. At least by one metric, should Tech beat BYU, it’ll be its best win of the season. BYU is No. 30 in the Sagarin ratings. Boston College is No. 104, is No. 105 and Presbyterian is No. 241.
Clemson is No. 23, Virginia Tech is No. 51, Miami is No. 61, MTSU is No. 116.

Special teams and defense are a disaster. We have a QB who can’t pass. But the head coach has too big of an ego to fix anything. Too bad that DRad is more concerned with building empty buildings than hiring competent coaches to fill them. His volleyball coach has been even worse than CPJ.

If Vad comes in, we’ll start throwing. Vad can lead us back to win this thing, and win the starting job at the same time.
In the past, in these situations, CPJ hasn’t played Vad because he thought Tevin “gave them the best chance to win”. If Vad does play, this would signal a major shift.

If Tevin comes in and plays well, people will wonder why he didn’t play all year. That would hurt PJs giant ego so there is no way that Vad plays. PJ doesn’t want to be second guessed by the lowly fans. He and Wes laughed at people who called into his show last month and told him Groh needed to go. If we can’t buy out his contract then DRad needs to handle his assistants and clean house and knock his ego down since he wants weak assistants that he can control but can’t develop players or recruit.

Stony, don’t feel too bad. I had season tix for 26 years after I graduated in 70. Finally decided to do other things on my weekends. Did get to see the Natl Championship year, however, and went to the Citrus Bowl. Sadly, those days are gone and the Bill Lewis days have returned.

I have been a Tech fan for almost 60 years. I actually love Johnson’s offensive philosophy and enjoy seeing it executed. But, I don’t remember seeing a team coached and prepared and playing defense any worse since the days of Bill Lewis. And, as badly recriuted on Defense.. Johnson needs to show some reason, as the “boss”, why he should’t be fired. Do the players like playing for him? or is his ‘macho’ approach his greatest strength but also his greatest weakness?

Tech fans left at halftime. It is homecoming and everyone left for the parties and to hang out. The BYU fans came for the game and stayed. The good thing about this season is that I didn’t get tickets again after “c”PJ brough Groh back for another year. Hopefully Drad will be gone before he gets to hire the next football coach. After he botched the basketball search and killed the volleyball program that used to make the tournament every year, I don’t want him making another hire. Let him stick to designing new facilities.

We are playing with more fire on D but they are just better in ALL AREAS Coaching included! GT doesn’t have players but I fault CPJ and the Gold tinted glasses crowd.For the last couple of years CPJ has been saying he doesn’t need to get those 4 and 5 Star players, he looks at players different. Inspite of National Recruiters having GT at the bottom of ACC Recruiting though we are in a State laden with talent., CPJ said he doesn’t pay any attention to the National recruiters.. Really? GT has to hire some guys who can reruit and overhaul th whole recruiting program Some guys who can close on recruits or this program will keep it’s downward spiral!

1st time I was in Atlanta and DIDN’T go to a game. Used to get club seats. Didn’t renew this year and was, at one time, thinking about getting next year. Definitely will NOT. He is starting to do the damage to our football program that Hewitt did to our basketball program. It will take years to dig out of this very deep hole. We really, truly are not that good. Many more losses to come. And our bowl streak? Big deal. We’ve lost 7 in a row. Glad we won’t be going.

The problem is drive, confidence and execution. There are no leaders on this team. No one has stepped up to push their teammates to be better. No one is making hard-fought plays to carry the team on their back and change momentum.

I finally see the light…all you knowledgable Tech fans are right…Paul Johnson is a great coach. What an innovator, his play calling is incredible, his recruiting is out of this world. Heck, who else can recruit 2 star players like TW…he must run a 4.8 40 and his arm is unbelieveable. Many on you have been trying to tell me this…quotes I have seen on here like…he is stockpiling talent like nobody’s business…we are young team and just give him a few years…he is the best coach in the country, at any level. Tech fans are the brightest football fans in the country and you guys are always right on the money when it comes to what football is all about. I am so excited for the future of Tech football, no question we have the right man for the job and he is moving the program in the right direction. I mean the triple option offense is the most exciting offense to watch…bar none and this defense…good gracious don’t even get me started…so much speed on that side of the ball and such good tacklers…Al Groh was just a bad coach. Tech football rules!

Being a nice guy just doesn’t cut it. Coach Kelly is not the answer I am afraid. If cpj wants to keep his job he needs to clean house.
I think that cpj hit part of the problem last week when he pointed his finger at the partying and lack of focus on the game from the sidelines the team is not engaged in the game like it should be.
As the announcers noted…. the entire BYU D was on its feet for most of the 2nd half. When is the last time gt has had that happen…. on O or D? We were flat today …AGAIN… and it showed.
We are a bad team that is getting worse by the game. It will be a miracle if we finish with 6 wins. Even if we do, this team is not good enough to win a bowl and we will finish with a losing record for the 2nd year in a row.
It may be a good time for us to let the bowl streak die and regroup for next year. We are too complacent as a team and a fan base as was shown by the fans who left early.
I say stay home this year and allow cpj time to find a new staff.

Well, folks I’m back as promised. Here’s why we lost:
1. Poor execution on offense, defense, special teams.
2. Poor 3rd down conversion rate: 0-10
3. Poor 3rd down defense: 9-16
4. Poor tackling & missed tackles. Williams & Nelson looked like All-Americans… nobody tackled anybody square and center, wrapping them up. All I saw was glances and shoves.
5. 4th quarter burnout. Like every game this season.
6. No consistent drives on offense. Hence, no TOP. Therefore, see #5.
7. No pass rush.
8. No kicking game. Not a single kickoff into the end zone, and missed a chip shot field goal.
9. Absolutely horrendous kick return coverage.
10. No passing game. Didn’t I say we needed to come out passing at the start. And Tevin needs to throw to his left side, not the right side where we have weaker receivers & A-backs.
11. Vad Lee disappointed with his execution of the triple option. Bad reads all around.
12. Of course, he only got in because Tevin made a bunch of missed reads.
13. Zero blocking by A-backs and wide receivers.
14. No big plays on offense.
15. Poor conditioning of defense. Players aren’t prepared to play 4 quarters.
16. No excitement/support from the sideline.
17. Lack of size and speed (read: competitive athletes) on both sides of the ball. No talent, no playmakers, no anything.
18. Poor coaching on special teams.
19. Poor coaching on defense.
20. In fact, poor coaching overall.
21. Mismanagement of the athletic department.
22. Lack of fan interest.

I’m making the argument that criticism should be legitimate. That doesn’t equate to giving CPJ a free pass. Recruiting isn’t the problem, because it hasn’t really changed. The scheme isn’t the problem. It has worked in the past, and other coaches respect it because it is schematically sound. The problem is motivation. The problem is coaching.

I’m still puzzled as to why our punter lines up 10 yards or less from the line of scrimmage when he punts. That’s why the punt in the second quarter was blocked. That’s just basic lack of fundamentals. Most teams line their punter up at least 12-15 yards behind the line. That miscue led to a key TD for BYU today in a critical time during the game. Poor coaching, perhaps?

Recruiting’s one of the favorite false causes of uneducated fans. Not doing so well? Guess it must be recruiting! Sorry, but it’s just not true. Our recruiting is at the same level as it has been for over a decade. The fact is that good players play poorly when they’re coaches poorly. That’s why U(sic)GA’s #1 recruiting class won absolutely nothing.
And how are we supposed to improve it, anyway? We can’t single-handedly rehab the national image of the ACC. We certainly can’t add junk majors or dumb down the curriculum for athletes. How do you suggest a school like ours compete with programs like Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia? Answer that question, and I’ll submit your name to DRad for consideration.
