Some extra stuff that didn’t make the notes posted Tuesday night…
1. A few answers in full from quarterbacks and B-backs coach Brian Bohannon about backup quarterback Vad Lee:
“I think he’s working through it. I think he had probably the best day he’s had in a while today. He had a really good practice today. Other than that, I think he’s got to come out every day and try to win the job. We talked about it today and I think he came out and had a really good practice today. Last week, it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t good. It was just O.K.”
“He’s a redshirt freshman. He’s getting a lot better. He had a really good day today and I foresee him right now, he’s going to do nothing but have arrows up from here on out.”
On Justin Thomas’ progress (Thomas worked with the second team last week, with Lee working with the first string to give starter Tevin Washington a break):
“He’s still learning but he’s quick and he’s fast. He can make some plays even when things don’t go like they should. Pretty smart. Picks up on things pretty quick, so I thought it was good for him to get some work in. It’s hard to simulate just going through drills. And he still goes through all my drills. I was pleased that he could get some work in.”
2. I’m working on a story for Thursday’s paper about the offensive line and its performance thus far. The offense as a whole has produced, although the B-back numbers are again down, which is typically either a function of either the backs or the line. Offensive line coach Mike Sewak was more focused on handling defensive line stunts and blitzes. He said he has been disappointed by the line’s play when Tech has been forced into obvious passing situations.
“I thought we’d be better at it,” he said. “We have not. We have not achieved that.”
The stunts and blitzes were a focus during the bye week and also in Tuesday’s practice. Also, Sewak said that center Jay Finch has been inconsistent and that the move of Will Jackson from guard to tackle has been an upgrade.
“There’s always room for improvement, but he’s done some really good things at times, and other times, he’s done some ‘What the heck?’” Sewak said of Finch.
In case you missed it…

I don’t know that I really care to participate in a blog where phonies can show up one day and start out posting, at least IMHO, being personally offensive in their blog behavior to myself & others as well. And no I am not being thin skinned. Then when the moderator calls that person out on their blog behavior, all they get is toothless warnings. So maybe they do change their blog handle, but manages to do so in a still offensive manner. BFD!! If the moderator does not have the authority to ban someone, then who does. And BTW, the individual I am talking about “cussed out”, without actually “cussing”, the moderator, & said moderator seemingly ignored it. Words have meaning! Either your word means something or it does not mean anything. You take a stand or you stand for nothing. Which is it? I know what I would do. IN A HEARTBEAT TOO!!!!

Take the wheel: your blind faith in the decision-making of CPJ is mind boggling. Yes, he sees all the players in practice, and we don’t. Could he possibly be wrong, or is he the anointed one, never makes mistakes, ever?
You do realized that this is the guy that hired Al Groh. AND KEPT HIM FOR 3+ years.

@ Take The Wheel– Here are some more numbers. How many points has our offense scored in OT and the 4th quarter in our last 6 losses? A total of 30 or 5 per game.If you do not count the VT game the number is 20.If the offense had scored any points in the Utah or Miami game in the 4th quarter we would have won them.Our defense has stunk and given up 98 in the 4th and OT.If the defense had made stops in the 4th quarter of the Utah, VT and Miami game we would have won them.Obviously both the offense and the defense need to play better late in the games..I am not saying everything is TWs fault but his play in the 4th quarter and OT has not helped. Some of the fault also goes to CPJs playcalling in the 4th quarter.I agree 100% that the biggest problem has been the defense. I do expect better quarterback play late in games.Maybe TW is or best option,

@Joe – really??? Out of 104593747 points I made previously you wanna talk to me about blind faith?? You mean…. blind faith like …. starting a QB who hasn’t first proven himself worthy in practice?? A QB you liken to “AI”??? PJ should just have blind faith in his abilities right? Oh…ok
And let’s just ignore the fact that PJ, although head coach, has other coaches who assist in assessing player readiness and progress.

@GT79MD83 – touché
There’s plenty of blame to go around. Plenty of missed opportunities on both sides of the ball. No one fix will do it. I think the right people know that and they are probably up RIGHT NOW working on a new plan for a great come back!
