Bohannon sees ‘arrows up’ for Lee

Some extra stuff that didn’t make the notes posted Tuesday night…

1. A few answers in full from quarterbacks and B-backs coach Brian Bohannon about backup quarterback Vad Lee:

“I think he’s working through it. I think he had probably the best day he’s had in a while today. He had a really good practice today. Other than that, I think he’s got to come out every day and try to win the job. We talked about it today and I think he came out and had a really good practice today. Last week, it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t good. It was just O.K.”

“He’s a redshirt freshman. He’s getting a lot better. He had a really good day today and I foresee him right now, he’s going to do nothing but have arrows up from here on out.”

On Justin Thomas’ progress (Thomas worked with the second team last week, with Lee working with the first string to give starter Tevin Washington a break):

“He’s still learning but he’s quick and he’s fast. He can make some plays even when things don’t go like they should. Pretty smart. Picks up on things pretty quick, so I thought it was good for him to get some work in. It’s hard to simulate just going through drills. And he still goes through all my drills. I was pleased that he could get some work in.”

2. I’m working on a story for Thursday’s paper about the offensive line and its performance thus far. The offense as a whole has produced, although the B-back numbers are again down, which is typically either a function of either the backs or the line. Offensive line coach Mike Sewak was more focused on handling defensive line stunts and blitzes. He said he has been disappointed by the line’s play when Tech has been forced into obvious passing situations.

“I thought we’d be better at it,” he said. “We have not. We have not achieved that.”

The stunts and blitzes were a focus during the bye week and also in Tuesday’s practice. Also, Sewak said that center Jay Finch has been inconsistent and that the move of Will Jackson from guard to tackle has been an upgrade.

“There’s always room for improvement, but he’s done some really good things at times, and other times, he’s done some ‘What the heck?’” Sewak said of Finch.

AJ suggs: never had a losing season, and actually led a 4th quarter comeback vs 9-0 NC State. Can Tevin match eiter of those?

Joe why haven’t you responded to A.J. Suggs yet? You obviously don’t know jack about Tech football which makes me think you’re either a troll or somehow related to Vad. Its gotta be one or the other. You haven’t proven anything to anyone on these blogs except how obsessed you are with teenagers. Kinda creepy if you ask me. Hell even WnE doesn’t beat a horse to death as much as you do.

@ Macon – He’s not a tech fan. He’s Vad’s #1 fan (if you know what I mean)

I almost feel sorry for the kid, having someone as unreasonable as Joe Lee in his ear. But what he just said speaks volumes… his own best supporter just told you all that he is not motivated to play for this team. Still wanna ride the Lavaedeay train???

So for all the fans who keep wondering why PJ wont “just play him” … the reason is he’s not fully committed to the team and it shows in practice. You gotta know PJ is fighting for his job here! He is gonna play who gives us the best chance to win every time. And he’s is not going to risk his job on a kid with one foot in the program and one foot out the door!

I see no need to complain to anyone @ the AJC. They apparently don’t care to do anything about this issue. Or they are too stupid or don’t have the backbone to take action. Or maybe they think it is just a sports blog, who cares. The AJC was once a proud newspaper read across the SE USA. They are making a great effort to live down to their nick names…”The Fishwrapper”….”The Atlanta Urinal & Constipation”….and I used to defend their name……………………………….jokes on me I guess.

Macon says that Vad “misread the option 3 straight plays” in the MTSU game. Debunked.

Macon says AJ Suggs was worse than TW. Debunked.

@Take the Wheel I read that also, but thought you did a good enough hob of calling him for it so I didn’t bother. Dudes just obsessed is all. Vad obviously isn’t cutting it, but people just don’t get it. Like I said earlier, I’m gonna laugh if Justin starts next year. And if Joe is right, and Vads not trying in practice, then I hope he never starts at Tech. That is the main reason Perkins doesn’t start. PJ has called Perkins out in the past for expecting to start without earning it in practice.

…thanks for posting the most moronic tidbit of the day.

COMPETING every dang day is what sports after high school are all about – the competition is so great in college and the pros that if you do not compete, you do not play. And, that, in a nutshell, is what separates TW from Vad, and what will separate Justin from Vad next year, if Vad sticks around…

@Joe Lee –

You have it backwards… In big boy football, players earns their spot on the field and work hard to keep it! Nobody GIVES you anything.

The problem is you want the program to roll over for your kid, AND ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN! He’s gonna either show and prove AT PRACTICE, or have a seat with you!

You keep throwing up transfer like we dont have other options. PLEASE transfer your kid!! I like the heart S.Days and the promise of Justin Thomas has shown MUCH better anyway. I’ll take a kid whose willing to do whatever the team needs whenever they need it over a spoiled highschool star, who expects the program to build itself around him any day.

I for one don’t blame Vad for not being committed to Tech (if that is indeed the case). He is now wasting his 2nd year behind the worst GT QB in AT LEAST the last 25 years. And we have CPJ either trying to “break” Vad or teach him lesson about practice effort?

Tevin is 8-13, but at least he practices well!

Nah Joe Vad didn’t misread the option 3 straight times, but never saw the field until a minute left in the game. Debunked.
Never said Vad hasn’t scored against 1st stringers, just said he hasn’t played as good against them as the proof being mtsu and Presby in first half of both games. Also scoring from the 1 isn’t that hard. Again ask Tevin. Debunked.
Suggs was worse than, which is why he couldn’t beat out Reggie Ball and transferred. Debunked.

Mystery solved people. Daddy and his Diva revealed. Lalapolooza was a star in highschool and he and his family expected “above the law treatment” from GT. I guess he figured all the other QBs would just lay down. So since thats not happening, he’s pouting AGAIN (just like last year) and talking about transferring AGAIN (just like last year). PLEASE GOOOOOOOOO. We are better off with 2 QBs who want to play and contribute to the success of the team anyway in any way they can.

… and until then Joe Lee will continue to demonize and demoralize every other QB in Lalapolooza’s path!

All this comment on 4th and 1 simply makes me say, Tech shouldn’t be in those positions. Most of the time this year, when Tech is CPJ only goes for it when he can pin an excuse on the defense if Tech doesn’t make it. Example of this would be that Miami game when tech punts on 4th and 1 on the 50, but then goes for it on 4th and 1 on the goal line in OT. Don’t make it from the 1, just say hey it was the defense that put us in this situation. All I want is consistency, and get rid of that silly wishbone play unless you run it from time to time.

FL Jacket

“FL Jacket as much as I disliked Reggie Ball….yes Tevin is a worse quarterback than Reggie…..”

Wreck – hope this changes your mind…

Reggie Ball career…
662/1363 48.6%, 8128 yds, 6.0 YPA, 57 TD 55 INT 104.4 rtg
1451 yds rushing, 2.9 ypc

Tevin Washington career…
149/290 51.4%, 2894 yds,10.0 YPA, 17 TD 13INT 145.6 rtg
1949 yds rushing, 4.2 ypc

So…let’s see. Tevin is more accurate, throwing more difficult passes, has a better TD:INT ratio, and is a better rated passer. Plus Tevin out-gains Reggie on every rush attempt.

Yup…absolutely Reggie Ball is a better QB

@ Stinger – I can answer that… NO he is not a GT fan! He’s a parent watching his gravy train roll off into the sunset!!!

He has a crazed fixation on our starting QB. Kinda like those little league parents who will stop at nothing to have their kid on the field!!

Get this through your thick skull Joe Lee – “The only thing thats gonna change PJs mind is proof at practice”! Your numbers and videos, DEMONIZING and DEMORALIZING TW is not going to cut it. He has no reason to be biased against Lalapolooza Lavaedeay. He wants to win and he wants to keep his job! So if you all cant understand why he should earn it in practice then you dont belong in this program!! GOOOOOOOOOO.

And dont think I dont see right through you trying to back away with your comment “I for one don’t blame Vad for not being committed to Tech (if that is indeed the case)” – PUH LEASE go away with that “if thats the case” comment.
