Johnson: ‘You want fans that care’

Some of the more interesting answers from Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson at his Monday post-practice interview:

On Tech converting most of its takeaways into points:

“It’s possessions, because what happens is every time that you turn the ball over, you lose a chance to score. It’ a possession. We had done a pretty good job of that for most of the year and then Saturday, we turn it over on two plays on a hitch pass, we turn it over on the first play or the second play on an option, you turn it over on the first play of a drive with 8 minutes (left) with a deflection for an interception, and that’s all chances that you don’t have to score. It takes away your chances. So on the flipside, when you get one on defense it gives you another possession, another chance to score. That’s why they were so big in the game. And then we killed our possession in the second half with a penalties to start the second half. End up 2nd and 25.”

On if he had put his finger on an explanation for Tech’s lack of energy Saturday:

“No. If I knew… It’s disappointing and it’s unacceptable and I think our guys know it’s unacceptable. You move forward. Like I said, you’re not going to get anywhere looking backwards. Quit moping, quit pouting, and let’s go play.”

On special-teams play being improved:

“Except fumbling the kick, except getting a penalty, except both times they punted, we take over on the 4 and the 12, but other than that, it was great. But it was the lesser of the evils.”

On the success MTSU had throwing quick outs by blocking cornerbacks:

“We had some guys who were supposed to be buzzing the flats who weren’t buzzing the flats. I think they played good. Should we have lost the game? No, but we did.”

On if he’d received any encouraging e-mails or phone calls from colleagues or friends:

“Not really. Last time I looked, we were 2-3, not 0-97. I would think most people wouldn’t even be thinking about it. But, clearly, you guys are. I get e-mails every week whether we win or lose, and most of them are telling me what I need to do, whether we win or lose.”

On everybody having an opinion:

“But that’s part of it. You want fans that care. If they didn’t care, they wouldn’t be very good fans. We’re disappointed, too. I promise you. Nobody’s more disappointed than I am. But I certainly haven’t given up. It’s not like oh, shoot, the season’s lost. We’ve still got a lot to play.”

On Morgan Bailey’s play in the second half:

“He moved some people around. He’s got great ability. Hopefully, he can stay out and have a good week of practice and we can play him. I’ve said from the jump, the kid’s got great ability. If he can just stay healthy, he’ll really help us.”

In case you missed it…

I got a good use for teksters old football stadium. Leave it alone, move your “football” games to the Georgia Dome to play double headers with Ga State. We can use your old stadium as a practice field for the annual SEC Championship game. We will even pay you in cokes and dogs!

www: you clearly cant read. Moron. Get out of here.

I said he has never ripped Tevin publicly, as he has done to other players. I am not advocating that he do so. Stupid.

I would like to see Tevin benched for f’n up so much.

And who cares if he rips a player publicly? What is this, peewee football? Tevin isn’t your 8 year old son. He’s friggin 22 years old. We have soldiers dying in Afghanistan younger than Tevin, and they don’t need any hand-holding.

If tek football is going to stink this bad (we can smell it all the way from Hartwell), at least graduate some of those fine engineering student athletes.

Face it. There is very limited talent on this team. Some of these guys should be Div. 1-AA. This is why we suck! This falls on PJ’s shoulders! He just cannot recruit. No one wants to come that has any talent and play in this system.

@ Joe, Super and others, I’m not sure that Vad will be that much of an improvement, but I’ve seen enough of TW to know what we will get. I’d rather take a chance on the unknown at this point because the known is not that great. And from watching the game on tape, TW did not have a confident look on his face. He knows his abilities and he knows he’s not getting it done.
The D was in complete disarray

Clemson, loss, BYU, loss, BC, loss, UNC loss, Duke, loss, Maryland, loss, Georgia, Richt will feel sorry for ya little fellas and take the foot off the gas early 3rd Qtr. I will say UGA 64 tek 6. CPJ will go for 2 after the mid 4th quarter TD and fail.

“We need fans that care”……….Well, we need coaches that can coach and recruit. Paul has surrounded himself with friends, not great assistants, and until this is remedied then the program will continue to struggle! DRad is fast proving that he is a government administrator, not a manager. He needs to step in, and see that the staff changes are made because Paul will not until his hand is forced! Doing nothing and thinking a “Buy Out” is the only option is not the correct solution! Remember: “Help Me Help You!”

The fans care. We do not care that much about seeing us play Presbyterian and MTSU. Although we made MTSU look better than Miami. The fans were very spirited at the UVA and Miami game.So what if we are 2-3, as CPJ eludes to. One of those wins is against Presbyterian, the other against UVA, who are not very good, Tevin would not start for MTSU. He does not make plays when it counts. He has proven that he is not able to will us to victory like Nesbitt. With our current defense we will most likely lose at the least half of the remaining games irregardless of who plays quarterback. Why play Tevin? What is the upside? He will simply try to do things he is incapable of and not make plays. He will throw an interception trying to force a play.In the VT, Miami, and MTSU game we still had chances in the 4th quarter and overtime, in spite of our defense, if Tevin was capable of making plays and good decisions.Get Lee experience. We are not winning anyway with Tevin.

Clemson Tigers – A diversity of talent
by the Associated International Presscorp

Georgia Tech has a real battle on their hands this weekend. The Tigers are a talented and balanced team. In 2012, their starting 22 remain strong in Sociology, while their complement of Community Recreation, Sports, and Camp Management is down a bit from previous years. What may be a factor in the game is the offensive line. They are thin in the power areas, primarily due to the lack of elite-size Sociology talent. The skill positions on offense are in great shape, bolstered by able talent in CR, S, & CM. The defense, while overall fairly strong, has some weak points at the nose guard, middle linebacker and free safety. Expect Georgia Tech to exploit those weaknesses.

Offense
LT – Secondary Education
LG – Sociology
C – Communication Studies
RG – Civil engineering
RT – Biological Studies
TE – Sociology
WR – Community Recreation, Sport, & Camp Management
QB – Sociology
RB – Community Recreation, Sport, & Camp Management
FB – Sociology
WR – Management
WR – Communication Studies

Defense
DE – Sociology
NG – Pre-business
DT – Sociology
DE – Community Recreation, Sport, & Camp Management
SLB – Sociology
MLB – Economics
WLB – Sociology
CB – Sociology
SS – Sociology
FS – Marketing
CB – Community Recreation, Sport, & Camp Management

Power rankings
10 – Sociology
4 – Community Recreation, Sport, & Camp Management
2 – Communication Studies
1 – Biological Studies, Civil Engineering, Economics, Management, Marketing, Pre-Business, Secondary Education

The MTSU loss/debacle certainly frees up the rest of my fall afternoons/evenings for more rewarding and enjoyable experiences than sitting in Grant Field or in front of a big screen TV. I’ve wasted way too any hours and expended too much emotional energy doing that in the past. No more.

@ Real, I would rather be mediocre than hire a lying scumbag like Petrino. Integrity is more important than victories. If you don’t know that, please let me know who you work for so I won’t have to buy their products/services.

Now as for your previous post,
1. Petrino – HELL NO
2. Tuberville – He’s already making $2M/yr at TT.
3. Cutcliff – 7-5, 7-4, 7-6, 10-3 at Ole Miss with Eli Manning at QB. Great QB coach, but no winning seasons at Duke. Didn’t leave for UT, not coming to GT.
4. Kiffen – Never leaving USC for GT
5. Fulmer – Couldn’t win with Peyton Manning at QB and lost to Memphis; 29-21 last 4 years before being fired
