Receiver Jeremy Moore leaves team

Georgia Tech wide receiver Jeremy Moore has left the team for personal reasons, coach Paul Johnson said Wednesday.

Moore, a redshirt junior, had started the first three games of the season and had three catches for 64 yards. Moore informed Johnson of the decision Tuesday.

“He had some personal reasons, said that he’s struggled with it before,” Johnson said following Wednesday’s practice. “It’s not the first time he’s thought about it. I just wished him well.”

Moore will remain in school, Johnson said. Moore had a challenging run with the team, suffering multiple injuries and getting little playing time. With a strong spring practice and fall camp, he earned a starting spot and rotated with Darren Waller and Jeff Greene.

True freshman Anthony Autry is now behind Waller and Greene on the depth chart, although Chris Jackson will return next week after being held out for four games because of an academic matter concerning his credit hours. Also, defensive back Corey Dennis was brought over to add depth at wide receiver.

“…although Chris Jackson will return next week after being held out for four games because of an academic matter concerning his credit hours.”

Hmmmm….I’m not here to cast aspersions on anyone but that sounds mighty fishy to me, at least for a school that hails itself as the model for “well rounded student-athletes.” Well rounded student-athletes don’t miss games because they have an academic matter concerning their credit hours. That’s all I know.

Just remember Techies, you bring this on yourselves.

Why would a receiver go to Tech? Boyos can’t throw.

My guess is that the “personal reasons” is that he has realized that being on the football team will not get you a woman at Tech, since there are none. Poor guy.

It’s good to see that the majority of the UGA fans who have made posts concerning Jeremy leave the rivalry and sarcasm behind and recognize that the important thing here is a kid’s well-being. And then there are pathetic excuses for humanity like dwafgan and Jacket Buster, and aprilglaspie, and Steve, and a few others whom even the REAL UGA fans have no use for. Thanks to the classy dawgs, and to hell with the trashy dwags.

ALL THE BEST, JEREMY !!!

Life is about more than just football. Good to see this kid staying in school… A GT education can take him far if he stays with it.

Dawgfan, might want to look into something before running at the mouth. The NCAA had issues with credit hours he received while at Bama.

I watch these receivers from Tech tear up the NFL and I wonder how a running oriented offense does it but it does. I think Waller and Green are heading to the bright lights too. You look out there every year and there is a big receiver with speed that can block and when he catches the ball he is isolated one on one, beating a small safty. I wish anyone well that wants to leave this factory, they will need it.

It shows a lot of class to be able to step forward, after putting in all that hard work to move up the depth chart, and determine that football isn’t what he wants to do anymore. Although I admire the decision, I am not sure I agree with the idea that he should remain on scholarship. I 100% agree that a player who, through no fault of his own (read: medical not Saban doesn’t think he is good enough) should maintain a scholarship, I don’t think someone who steps away voluntarily should maintain a scholarship. Remember, college tuition is sky high and every scholarship awarded is one less source of revenue coming to the school, which means that everyone paying his/her own way has to pay a little more. There is a reason why athletes deserve scholarships; they bring in revenue for the school and work their @$$es off to stay on scholarship. Essentially, it is like working a full time job to pay their way through college and this young man quit his job.

Maybe he grew tired of playing one of the extended tight end positions (wide receiver) on PJ’s offense. Getting frequently trampled trying to block on the repeated option /toss sweep plays is not a good thing. The NFL does not look for blocking only receivers. They want receivers who have actually caught lots of passes.

MR
None of us know why J. Moore left, and it really is not our business. Your observation though is proven wrong with CPJ’s system placing three WRs in the NFL in the past three years. Would Moore have gotten there or is another on campus now I have no idea, but if NFL coaches and scouts seem to like them and broadcasters keep commenting on them GT most be doing something right.

Receivers at Tech are mostly blockers and decoys for Tevin Washington to run into the line. Few teams take them seriously.

depends on the school some will remove the scholarship the following semester some will remove it at the end of the year I don’t know Tech’s policy could be he would have to pay for his this spring semester or might be he would have to pay starting next fall.
