Tech in white vs. Virginia, Washington to wear No. 40

After testing out its blue jerseys last Saturday, Georgia Tech will wear white uniforms Saturday against Virginia. Virginia coach Mike London sent out a Twitter message Thursday that the Cavaliers have chosen to wear navy helmets and jerseys as the Jackets will wear white.

The uniforms are believed to be slightly different than the white outfits worn in the opener against Virginia Tech. The team practiced in its traditional gold helmets this week after wearing the white version prior to the first two games, which it then wore in the game.

Also, quarterback Tevin Washington will take his turn wearing the No. 40 jersey in honor of former linebacker Julian Burnett, according to a Twitter message from Tech spokesman Dean Buchan. It was Washington’s idea for team members to rotate the jersey to pay tribute to Burnett, who suffered a career-ending neck injury in the Sun Bowl. So far, nose tackle T.J. Barnes and cornerback Rod Sweeting have worn No. 40. Starting seniors Izaan Cross (defensive end) and Orwin Smith (A-back) will also get an opportunity to wear it, after which non-seniors will have an chance.

Besides the WCU game, I didn’t have a problem with last year’s jerseys.

As long as the white jersey’s don’t have those hideous almost iridescent blue numerals from the VT game, they should look ok.

@ FLJ…..I like the nest too, but those numerals were hideous, at least on TV. The numerals they had last week looked better, but unfortunately they were sometimes hard to read from the upper deck.

Last years jerseys looked like they were lower quality than knock off starter jerseys from walmart, I like the new jerseys I just wish they would not try to go 3-D with the nest thing and they would use the appropriate Navy and Gold.

Quite frankly, I wish they would get rid of ANY shade of blue, and use black. I never understood why blue was selected as our secondary color to begin with. Black SHOULD have been the natural choice for a secondary color.

Lee, I think they are finally starting to get the concept of sticking with a single gold – Old Gold. The problem is that Old Gold is a terrible color for TV, which is why adding texture to it makes it a great trade-off.

SS…Amen. Give me some black jerseys every now and then when the kids have lived up to that “Black Watch” defensive standard. (kid of like how Nebraska does it)

I could care less if crummudgeon old alums detest black…

I agree Black makes much more sense as the third school color, Black and Gold is much closer to the color of a yellow jacket.

@ Lee R…….you are 100% correct. Blue makes absolutely no sense at all. And FLJ, those “black watch” jerseys were AWESOME, as was the “black watch” defense. I would probably qualify as a “crummudgeon old alum”, and blue is the color I detest, certainly not black

Is black a color—or the absence of color. For that matter white isn’t technically a color either.

I did like the Blackwatch concept—I think the guys had a black GT. Navy blue is almost black—guess I’m in the minority by liking blue, but prefer to see the gold helmets. Otherwise I don’t care that much as long as they don’t pull a MD with the helmets or the power ranger suit the dwags had to wear.

They can wear burlap as long as they win the game.

Guys, the reason (I was told this by a person at GTAA) that we don’t wear black as an accent color is b/c black is HALF of UGAg’s colors. I know we had the ‘black watch’ in the 80’s under Curry-i was there part of that time. But as a general rule we don’t use black cause of dawgs. Navy blue is not a bad accent color, it looks good with the gold and white. GO Jackets! Whatever color you wear.

@ GTGirl…..that makes sense, and would explain why the really old-timers are against black, but does UGA even wear much black anymore, other than a highlight? In fact, did they ever. The seem to wear more red and white than red and black, and long ago, they were known as the silver britches because they almost always wore red jerseys and silver britches. If UGA can wear white, knowing that one of Tech’s primary colors is white, I don’t see why Tech can’t wear black.

Good point Super! Remember when we wore gold britches with white jerseys almost exclusively?
Also, remember when UGAg last wore their black jerseys for their ‘black out’ home game? They got beat!!! So that may be why they don’t wear them amymore.

Georgia Tech Football single season rushing yards leader- 1,562 yards
Georgia Tech 3rd in career (1975–78) rushing yards- 3,517 in 609 attempts and 22 TD.

Personally, I LOVED the navy jerseys last Saturday. I wish they would wear them for EVERY home game. It kills me how the Tech “faithful” want nothing but old gold and white yet 85% of their clothing on the on-line store is NAVY BLUE!!!
By the way, Tech has never done a great job getting the “old gold” color right to begin with. The actual “old gold” color is the same color as the signs on top of the section portals at the stadium.

The old Gold that ESPN had when they put the teams and score on the screen is what is needed. Drad is bending over and taking a big one because he says the players and recruits like it. I told him his on media guide states the colors are Old Gold and White with Black and Blue accents. He doesn’t care. I also asked him how many recruits have committed because of the uniforms we wear. He didn’t answer. If you want a change email him and tell him you will not renew your season tickets unless he changes the uniforms and he may listen. Otherwise he won’t care what you think. Money talks and everything else walks. He his just a pompous ass and is trying to do away or change everything that is traditional.

I would vote for Lenny Snow form the sixties and Johnathon Dwyer for later years. I missed following Tech in the seventies
I just gave my mom morphine as instructed to by her Hospice team as well as oxygen. It worked to get her breathing back to normal. First time in my life I have gotten to play doctor. I was apprehensive but so far so good. I sensed this was coming as I asked them to go over dispensing the morphine on thrusday. I hope she does not relapse this morning. I have a nurse lined up to care for her today so I can see the game. May pull an all-nighter like my college days. Warning for any females out there: if I start a remark with “I’m not a day over …” be prepared some exaggeration.

What’s up with the football fashion craze? Can’t the players wear gold helmets with gold/white contrast pants and jerseys? All white is dull! You don’t see Ala, LSU, So Cal, etc wearing designer uniforms. Tradition is cool.

I’d put the team in their practice uniforms and a gold “hat” with no GT on it out of the gate each year, kinda like Curry did in 85(?). Make earn the GT and uniform modifications with their play. Of course, Alabama and Penn State are my two favorite uniforms, so I guess I’m out of touch. In fact, I know I’m out of touch.

@Todd, He is the best back to play at Tech IMO with Robert Lavette a close second. I know Dwyer and Allen had great years but they both had an expanded season 12-14 games versus 10-12 games for Ivery & Lavette.

All of these combinations would be greatly improved with OLD GOLD in lieu of the washed out yellow color.
