Georgia Tech quoteboard

“I thought we got the momentum late. To their credit, they came back and took it back. They did what they had to do to put the game into overtime and then won in overtime. Kind of gift-wrapped it for ’em in overtime a little bit.” – Paul Johnson

The overtime play that ended in the interception was the “same one we were trying to run at the end (of regulation), just out of a different formation, trying to get crossers (crossing routes). I felt like if we packed more guys in – they were playing man – we could free somebody on the crossers.” – Paul Johnson

“They played pretty much the way we thought. We really struggled to start the game. We missed some reads. We were like popcorn. We settled down a little bit, but to their credit, they did a good job of never letting us get in much rhythm.” – Paul Johnson on Virginia Tech’s defense

“I thought it was good. The last kickoff, David (Scully) did a great job of kicking it deep, making ’em start on the [25]. He hit the field goal. I thought it was O.K. They dropped the snap on the punt, so we got great field position. So all in all I thought it was a positive.” – Paul Johnson on special teams

“Give them credit. They got it down there, we missed a couple tackles and they did what they had to do.” – Paul Johnson on Virginia Tech’s game-tying drive at the end of regulation

“We didn’t get much out of that that we needed to the way they were playing. I don’t know whether it’s that or whether it was the blocking or what it was. It’s hard to tell sometimes till you look at the tape.” – Paul Johnson on B-back play

“We had a great opportunity to win the game, no question.” – Paul Johnson

“I was trying to throw the ball away. Just got to make sure it goes out of bounds.” – quarterback Tevin Washington on interception in overtime

“I think it’s good we have a game on Saturday. Hopefully, we can get this thing going in the right way and get a win on Saturday.” – Tevin Washington

“It felt like the offensive line did a great job all night. We were one play here or there from just busting the game open. I feel like a game like tonight, it was kind of like an Ali-Frazier fight. It was one swing to another, a counter to a point, so they got the best of us tonight but we gave ’em all we had. We just wish we could have had better results at the end, could have finished a little better, on a better note.” – Tevin Washington

“It didn’t take me long to get, I guess, focused for the game. I was already ready for it. There were no nerves in my body. I was just playing, doing my responsibility.” – inside linebacker Jabari Hunt-Days on making his first start in his first career game

“Personally, I wouldn’t know about the other guys, (but) this game is gone as far as I’m worried about. I’m moving on. We’ve got a game Saturday. That’s going to come up fast. I’m going to try to help the guys get over it because it was a big loss, but like Coach (Johnson) said, we have to get over it because hopefully we have 13, 14 more games.” – A-back Orwin Smith about a possible hangover effect from the loss

“I just made a conscious effort to be ready for this game. It was a huge game, it was a great opportunity for me to show what I had, and I just wanted to capitalize on it.” – defensive end Izaan Cross

“There was no doubt in my mind that we were going to win but things happen, I guess. We counted our chickens too early. We’ve just got to worry about the next one and forget about this one.” – A-back Deon Hill

“There’s absolutely nothing we can do but play football. That’s what we’re going to do. We have plenty of games left. Maybe something will happen, maybe Virginia Tech will get caught slipping. You never know what happens. We’ve just got to continue playing our best and see what happens.” – Izaan Cross

You guys played your hearts out. We’re all proud of you. Results don’t necessarily measure it everything. I hope everyone of you now know what can be achieved in a team. Play hard, practice hard, and the results will come. This could be a very special year.

No playmakers on offense, only chokers.
We’ll win 6 games.

Heartbreaking loss. At least we proved most experts wrong to be in the game at all. Washington has a lot of heart, but is never going to take us to the next level. Johnson and Groh don’t inspire a lot of confidence, even though the defense does look somewhat better.

All in all, hope that this loss lights a fire under these guys. In spite of my disappointment, I’m still a Jacket fan.

I was actually pretty impressed with the defense. Either that or that VT quarterback is way overrated. TW may not be the best quarterback, but that guy sure can take a hit. Everybody talks about UGA schedule, with Tech ever play FSU again? There is nobody on Tech’s schedule other then Clemson and UGA so they are very well setup for a 9-3 regular season.

Was looking forward to troll post, but I just feel bad for y’all. Georgia football should not be losing to Virginia football this often. Get better, make the November game mean something like Auburn Alabama and not like Tulane LSU.

Defense was soooo much better! Couldn’t watch the first half but it sounded ugly on the radio. Second half wasn’t too bad. We could have won that game but it is behind us. I think the best college games to start the season was the Clemson-Auburn game and this one. ACC should be proud they aren’t afraid to play big games early on, unlike that other conference.

Really…. Hopefully we can win? Yeah, that Presbyterian team is a power house… We will have the top offense in the country after next Saturday and all will be fine in the world!

Prevent defense just prevents the win, to much cushion on both pass plays late in regulation. 4th and 4 and we are 10 yards off the receiver? Plus dumb bad luck we get a fumble and their other receiver is there to recover—
Im so frustrated with close but no cigar.

Team played hard with a lot of heart. We were one play away from victory. Ken, if you have the opportunity to ask CAG—what was the call for the Defense on 4th & 4 with 13 seconds left. What did he tell the players? Was it let’s play tight—stop them this play and the game is over or give them the first down lay back 10 – 15 yds and keep them in front of you? He rushed 4 I think, but it didn’t appear that our LBs dropped very deep. Just curious what is said during the time out as last second instructions.

On offense, we need to play the best passing QB that we have and throw the ball often. Hopefully our A backs and WRs can catch the ball because they certainly cannot block. Is all they teach is the cut block? We’ve got A backs diving at LBs feet and missing them completely! What is that???? In open field you don’t have to take down the guy or even drive him back, just shield him from the runner and let the runner read the block, but there’s nothing to read if you totally miss the guy. That’s what we called a lookout block—-you totally miss the guy and then turn to yell to the RB or QB “lookout”.

Please don’t wear those chicken wire uniforms again. They do not signify “Yellow Jackets”. They look much more like the uniforms got hit with a chicken wire fence. Leave the uniforms alone. Gold trimmed in blue. gold helmets, white pants.

The defense was improved and the offense was just ok although we may not be giving VT’s defense enough credit.

Loss hurt and I really don’t know what to say. I woke up this morning unemployed for the first time in 31 years . I guess my perspective has changed? The coaches livelihood depends on wins, the players worked hard all summer. Can we just cheer them on? Nobody wants to win more than them.

@jacketnation, yellow jackets make their nests with that hexagonal pattern. Maybe they inspired the design for chicken wire. We’ve got to start a different qb. Washington can’t make the proper option reads, and he admittedly is incapable of throwing the ball out of bounds. Even Reggie Ball can accomplish that feat.

With the agony of last nights defeat starting to ease, I did see some positives. Tevin’s throwing seemed much improved and the o line pass blocked better. The d generally played well – especially being down 3 starters. Doubt Drummond gets his job back, JH Days is going to be a great one.
I do think we will see Days and/ or Vad getting significant pt against Presbyterian, bit think it was wise to go with Tevin at VT. Its a long season and at least it sounds like the guys have the right attitude after a heartbreaking loss.

UGA owns us, so why shouldn’t VT own us, too? The numbers don’t lie…

If Presbyterian brings its entire student body, it can fill a survey course classroom at Tech. (Actually, they have a 1,200-strong enrollment.) let’s just hope we do not get hosed by the Blue Hose…

Come on Really? OUR team leader QB should know better than throw the ball up for grabs in OT You got to throw that ball away and at least get 3 from FG Tevin always has mind problems when it’s do or die time………prove me wrong ….

QB ?

September 4th, 2012

If your senior QB still makes so many bad reads and freshman mistakes after 20 or so starts, why not start a freshman that will make the same mistakes, but have more positive plays? At least we’d be investing in a QB for the future instead of maintaining a QB level that isn’t going to win any championships

frustrating!!!. I really wish we would run option pitch plays instead of handing to the b back every time. I still think the option can work at this level, but I must admit I am losing faith. Maybe we can win every game going into Clemzin game.

Really happy about the Defense!! Hopefully the running game will get crisper. Still haven’t seen a HR threat since Allen and really Dwyer. When we can have a threat at all 3 positions, then that is when the option is sweet. But instead with ours last night they just focused on the explosive A Backs and could easily contain the B Back and Tevin in my opinion. Passing was improved. Those guys on here that say the head coaches to not instill confidence, I don’t know what they mean. When you ar win their presence you can tell they are great men with lots of experience. They really get a kick out of the Monday morning QBs on here. (Johnson has even eluded to such on past posts) So we didn’t win. Maybe it will make them that much hungrier. I for one love the attitude of the team. that was a hostile game and it was a battle till the “bitter” end.

If you can’t stop anybody when it counts you aint good… Trust me if yalls O had been clicking and scored 24 points in the 1st quarter….. Then trust me VT would have at least had 21 points..

@Dirtybirdsin’12 Yes I am totally familiar with the hexagon cells of a Yellow Jackets nest. They almost always build them in the ground, unlike a honey bee. The uni’s look awful. Tevin throws the ball up for grabs in ot. Ends the game for the Jackets like so many QB’s of the past. That was a little reminiscent of Reggie Ball. The D was much improved. Special teams greatly improved. The offensive line was not cutting it. They could knock that big kid back and he was stuffing the run as was the V.T. on most of the dive plays. Orwin Smith looked great catching the ball but not able to get outside much. B.J. Bostic looked really good.

Here again, the option will work. BUT you can’t run the thing like a bunch of pansies. CALL BARRY SWITZER, & ask him how to effectively run A powerful option attack from THE WISHBONE position like the OU teams of old use to run them. HIT THE LINE WITH CONFIDENCE & stop dancing hoping not to get hit. THIS stinks. This team is better than this.
