Nose tackle T.J. Barnes will likely be the first Georgia Tech player to wear No. 40 in honor of former teammate Julian Burnett, Monday night in the season opener at Virginia Tech. Tech spokesman Dean Buchan posted the news on his Twitter account Sunday evening.
The team’s seniors are honoring Burnett, whose career came to end with a neck injury in the Sun Bowl, by taking turns wearing his No. 40 jersey.
“We’re trying to do something for Julian,” Barnes said at the team’s media day Aug. 4. “He was a big part of the team the past couple of years.”
Barnes, who usually wears No. 90, wears a triple extra large jersey.
(By the way, while he doesn’t wear 3xL, Dean is definitely worth following on Twitter. You can follow me here.)
