Tech uniforms: ‘A lot of things in the pipeline’

1. Georgia Tech may have new headgear to show off for its nationally-televised season opener on Monday. It’s possible new uniforms are coming, too.

Said Tech spokesman Wayne Hogan, “We’ve got a lot of things in the pipeline.”

Wednesday, multiple Yellow Jackets players posted a photo of a new helmet on their Twitter accounts that drew instant reaction, positive and negative. The photo and messages hinting that it would be worn in Monday’s game against Virginia Tech were taken down soon after they were posted.

Hogan acknowledged that the helmet – white with adjoining hexagonal cells outlined in gold, suggesting a yellow jacket nest – was legitimate, though he didn’t know if it would be worn against the Hokies. The helmet will have the interlocking “GT” logo applied when it is used for a game. Monday, Tech will wear its white road uniforms with blue trim.

The team and outfitter Russell Athletic have worked on new designs for a uniform, Hogan said, with many different combinations of helmets, jerseys and pants in the mix. He said nothing is “significantly different” from Tech’s uniforms of late, although it would be difficult to describe the white helmet as anything less than that.

“What we’re trying to do is give some options of several different things that we think the players will enjoy being a part of,” Hogan said.

To the delight of some fans and horror of others, alternate uniforms have become the rage in college football, notably Oregon and Maryland. A segment of Tech’s fan base has called for untraditional uniform designs to keep up with the trend, which some believe can help in recruiting. Reaction on Twitter to the white helmet ranged from “pretty cool” to “yuck!!!” to “they look like a golf ball.”

“I just feel like we need to come up with some Russell combat uniform or something,” said quarterback/A-back Synjyn Days, referring to Nike’s Pro Combat uniforms. “I feel like it should be something crazy, but I’m not sure if our alumni would [go for] that because it’s a tradition, white and gold.”

2. On the ACC coaches teleconference on Wednesday, coach Paul Johnson and Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer were queried on a popular topic in advance of any game in which Tech’s opponent has extra time to prepare – whether or not the added practice time helps the opposing defense get ready for the Jackets’ option-based spread offense.

“I think that’s helpful,” Beamer said. “You see this offense one time a year, and having a little extra time to work on that part of it, I do think that’s a benefit. The other thing is, no matter who you put out there, our scout team can’t run it like their team, that’s for sure.”

“I’ve never really bought into all that,” Johnson said. “I think you’ve got more time to get ready, we’ve got more time to get ready for them. It works out pretty much the same. I might be in the minority, but that part, I’ve never really thought much about it or worried about it that much.”

3. There were no injury updates following Wednesday’s practice, as coaches or players were not made available to media. Defensive players and coaches will be available Thursday, followed by Johnson’s news conference on Friday.

““GT teaches WRs how to beat press coverage” , you need to stop drinking the CPJ kool-aid, it is embarrassing you in this public forum.

No one else that follows FB at a high level agrees with anything you say, yet many “outside of GT” do agree with a lot of what I say (not mutt fans either).”

WnE…”Liar Liar Pants on Fire” is your only rebuttal to logical debate? Seriously, did you just get back from the Convention last night?

Becuase they’re taught how to block, they are not afraid of the physical contact involved with playing press coverage. And before you descend into the predictable “CPJ under-utilized him” nonsense all I can tell you is that when BeyBey was on the receiving end of a 70-yard TD it was generally a game-changer.

I’ve highlighted the “WnE Manifesto” on here many times, to where you’ll never be happy with CPJ unless he…

1) Goes 12-0 against the best teams in those opponents’ recent histories
2) Is perenially ranked in the top-10 in Recruiting rankings
3) Has every single one of his players get drafted by the NFL
4) Has every single one of his players graduate with Engineering degree.

I know I left something out. Why don’t you just start debating things logically and rationally, including what coach or system you’d rather see…or else just admit your true allegiances already.

Hell, I’ll admit right now (without pretending to be a UGA fan) that I wish UGA would fire Mark Richt. It would really help GT’s recruiting in Georgia and there is always a chance that UGA brings in a Ray Goof or Jim “Pyramid Scheme” Donnan type of coach.”

www, the part about 47% not paying federal income taxes is correct, and that’s what we are talking about… the FEDERAL government. Yes, those people do pay other taxes, like SS, Medicare, Obamacare, state sales taxes, and some state taxes (although anyone who has no federal income tax liability isn’t likely to have much of a state income tax liability either). But don’t confuse argument. I could argue all day about the taxes paid into bankrupt systems like SS and Medicare (yes, they have significantly more liabilities than assets TODAY and that’s only projected to go in the wrong direction). I could also talk all day about bloated state governments. BUT, when we are talking about the size of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, 47% of the people pay NOTHING for that yet many receive signifcant benefits from it. So of course those people want to continue on the current unsustainable path of borrowing money and raising taxes to fund that government.

________________

What a effin’ dolt!

Your head is so far up CPJ’s @$$ that you can’t see the obvious!

At on point CPJ had these 3 WRs at GT on the same team:

D. Thomas 6-3 235lbs. 4.38 forty future NFL 1st round draft pick

S. Hill 6-4 195lbs.(at the time) 4.36 forty future NFL 2nd round draft pick

K. Cone 6-2 210lbs. (former 400m track guy) 4.37 forty future NFL player via Free agency

With those 3 TALL, FAST WRs on the team at the smae time CPJ never played all 3 at the same time and never avg. more than 13 passes per game during that season that they were together.

If CPJ were really the Offensive “genius” that folks like you make him out to be, should he have passed the ball more to take advantage of all that future NFL talent?

The truth is CPJ could care less about maximizing talent, what he does care about more than maximizing talent is proving to the “world that his system works”.

People use the underutilization claim against CPJ because he MAKES IT EASY for people to make that claim based on his own questionable actions.

Chan gets ripped a new one repeatedly for under utilizing Calvin, but CPJ gets a totally FREE PASS for under utilizing 3 future NFL WRs on the same team at the same time.

The truth is ,is that CPJ has under utilized 3 future NFL WRs that had great measurables and could have been better college players at GT.

When you make posts like the one above defending CPJ’s poor decisions, you make it very easy for me to make you look silly in a public forum.

Why is it that GT fans like you have no problem with the Baseball team or the basket ball team wearing Blue as a major part of their Uni and not just as an “accent color” for trim etc.?

BTW, the B-Ball team under Cremins wore all blue over 20 yrs. while Kenny Anderson (I think I’m correct) was still here.

Also Blue makes a much better 3rd color than does black, also in a MNC year under Boss Ross we wore blue Jerseys with White pants and that was over 20 years ago also.

Cone got promoted to the Active Roster for the last 6 or 8 weeks last season.

The bottom line is that he made an NFL franchise at WR, that alone means that CPJ should have found a way to get more than 6 receptions out of him over a 2 or 3 yr. time frame.

If you have 3 future NFL WRs on a team at the same time, you find a way to throw the ball more than 13 times per Game, no one went to the extremes you did and asked for a chuck & duck offense.
