While I like the new look somewhat, I think they could have also kept tradition at the same time by leaving the gold GT on the sides of the helmet with the bee hives in the background. Just my take though.

So I’m an actuary and I went to tech. Pause for jokes.

Anyway, I’m also thirty two and I hate this helmet, but not for the same reason as everybody else seems to. Sure it’s ugly and who really needs a bunch of hexagons on the side of a helmet, but I just hate gimmicks. Does anybody remember what’s happened the last two times we played in our “really cool” navy jerseys. We stunk. Georgia was all pumped about their black helmets and unis…guess what, they stunk too. Why can’t we just focus on making our blocks, holding onto the football, and with a little grace from above, tackling Logan Thomas…

Guys, no need to get worked up in a frenzy over this. CPJ was the one who wanted to go back to the tradition of wear white tops and gold bottoms at home, so I’m sure this won’t be a permanent thing when its said and done. Its something different GT hasn’t done before and they’ll try it out for this game with it being on national tv then they’ll go back to the regular gold helmets.

Theres been rumblings around the net thats its actually going to be a brand new jersey design and russel hired a third party designer for the jersey no pics of the design is out yet but some of the coaches and players have seen it on a Ipad so lets just see what the whole jersey looks like bfor we bash it personally I love the fresh look.

HOLY CRAP, I finally agree with Wheenie on something. I only read his comment because I was wondering how he was going to twist something like a new helmet.

Personally, it doesn’t matter a rat’s arse what I think about the uniforms. As long as the team likes it, I’m fine, to a certain extent. It’s not like they have all decided to wear their pants halfway down their arse. I would have a problem with that.

We aren’t Maryland, we aren’t Oregon, and we sure as hell don’t need some gimmick uniform out on the field, particularly when the helmet looks pretty close to a damn golf ball. Please stick with the originals and don’t pull a UGA from the opening game last season . . .

Hey, I am an old guy, but I recognize that uniforms can attract recruits. Hell, GT is the seat of engineering innovation, why can’t they show a little open-mindedness?

I like the intent to create an alternative look, I just don’t think the boring white. My suggestion would be to keep the same honey comb pattern with a honey-colored background. Add a yellow jacket or GT to the side and you have a different look that will please the younger crowd.

Wow. Look, this is probably not for more than just this one game, guys. Also, they WILL have the interlocking GT logo on them. You don’t have to wear it, so cut these younger guys some slack. The players like it, so for one huge game chill out and let them wear something they like!

The traditional stuff isn’t changing for good; this is just a fun switchup so the kids can feel good for a big game.

Our fan base is surprisingly opinionated for being so apathetic about showing up to games. How about this – you’re allowed an opinion on something as insignificant as the uniforms if you hold season tickets.

Serious irony here. Look at all the Tech fans saying to not mess with tradition yet how many uniform changes and combinations has Tech had in the past 20 years alone? Let’s expand that to 50 years and see the number keep rising.

It’s not the end of the world guys. Normally I’d love to see Tech fans in agony but unfortunately this reminds me too much of UGA’s recent history.

For the record, the blackout worked pretty well against Auburn and Hawaii but crashed and burned against Alabama. Black pants and helmets didn’t work against Florida but recent history says odds are UGA doesn’t fair well against Florida in general.

It’s not as bad as the proposed new Notre Dame helmets or the UGA power ranger unis from last year, but it sure doesn’t do much for me. Nobody in the stands is even going to be able to see the mesh, so why bother? I agree with one poster who said gold helmet with a black honeycomb, but regardless it has got to have some kind of logo on it. A bigger complaint that I have is that they are unveiling it on the road. I think any changes should first be revealed at a home game, not a road game.

You are terrible fans and I am beyond dissapointed in the response… No wonder we dont sell out the stadium… We are not Alabama, Penn State(who are also changing thier uniforms) or all of the other super traditional uniformed schools. We have had multiple different uniforms over the past couple decades. Not to mention i remember the yellow jacket fans response to the 70’s era uniforms that came out in a few years back. Everyone hated them that night, but now it is commonly the most loved uniform of yellow jacket fans. Get off your high horse and support the team. This is a way to bring youth into the stadium instead of having all you 60 plus years olds reading a book or yelling at me to sit down when i am cheering for the jackets. Its time to move forward, and if this excites the players, and possibly new recruits then I am all for it. As long as we stay consistant they can come out in pink uniforms and i will be on the sideline in a matching replica. I am a fan of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets… and no uniform will ever change that. BTW many of the sports analysts are glorifying this helmet and talking about that it may be the best looking new lid in college football this year. Quit your belly aching and cheer! GOOOOOO JACKETS!!!!! BEAT THE TURKEYS!!!!!

I absolutely love these helmets with or without a GT logo. It’s not like the team is putting more focus on the helmets/unis than they are in preparation for the game. I have no problem with it being displayed in Blacksburg being as it is national tv. With the logo on it I think it will look pretty good. Biggest factor is the players like it. Remember they wanted to wear a black helmet for the Clemson game last year, but it got scrapped by CPJ after the two losses.

This is another move by radakovich to change everything at Georgia Tech and do away with tradition. We have lost Alexander Memorial Coliseum for something call the Mcquimish pavillion. When I wrote him and said when they rebuild Boddy Dodd he will come up with a new name if someone donates enough money and he didn’t disagree in his response. I didn’t buy basketball season tickets just because money is never an acceptable reason to change a traditional name. Especially when the donor never played a sport. Now we are getting these God awful looking helments. For a program that doesn’t fill up it’s stadium they need to start asking their season ticket holders what they like before they just go and do something stupd. Remember the horrible time people had when they tried to make everyone go in a particular gate. I have been a season ticket holder for many years but it is getting to the point of why bother. I’m not sure who we are anymore and it started with drad. I did like the uniforms everyone is calling the “throw back,” but this is too much. Those jerseys were old gold with the white helment. The current helment color would look awful on that uniform too. I didn’t care much for the blue jersey white pant combination but blue with old gold pants would look good with the white helment. There are many acceptable combinations but this is total crap.My next response will be to drad with the statemnet if this continues he will lose me as a season ticket holder. I didn’t go to Tech but I have 2 daughters that are graduates so I have 2 tickets and they have 1 each. What they do will be up to them. But I’m guessing Drad won’t care unless others fill his email with similar responses as he won’t miss 2 tickets all that much. Sorry to have been so long. All have a great evening.

@ Superdwag, since I know you won’t take the time to get the FACTS, let me tell you that an early blackout game was played between FSU and BC in 2006. Even though FSU doesn’t have black as a primary color, they still had blackout games, and they had them before UGA did. I guess CMR brought them to Athens from Tallahassee. So, UGA copied FSU, an ACC team……HA !!!!

As a Tech alum, I’m disgusted. It looks like someone strung chicken wire over the helmet. I like the tradition of a GT on the helmet which shows respect for the school. P.J better damn well stop f##king up the uniforms and start winning some more games, namely UGA. We have ranked high nationally every year since CPJ arrived in rushing offense, and the total offense isn’t far behind; we DO need more passing yards to get us highly ranked in total offense, but the offense certainly hasn’t hurt us. What hurts is not having had an adequate defense to get the other team off the field. Give us a average to good defense, and your complaints will go by the wayside. I GUARANTEE YOU !!!

I don;t go by OldSchool for nothing. This helmet design is absolutely horrendous!!!! I like what a couple of fans wrote earlier today: looks like a golf ball or like someone ran through a mesh fence. At least the uniform change a couple years ago had similarities to the traditional jersey. This helmet design is so far out of left field it is unbelievable. Remember what happened to our “friends” in Athens went to the black helmets for the game against Bama a few years ago, and then the debacle in the Dome against Boise State? Nuff said. But…..with all that said if they whip VT on Monday night then wear ‘em till they lose……and then go back to the traditional helmets.

If trying to work off the ol’ clever yellow jacket angle, how bout black and yellow stripes? It’s be less abstract and more bangin’ for the young crowd. When you have a chance to intercept the ball or recover a fumble. Do it. Drives end with turnovers. But, games have been won on second chances. Don’t give the offense a second chance to beat you. 6. Never underestimate your opponent. Play at the same level of intensity always. What difference does it make whether they are FCS or #1 in the country. Kick their butts. 7. Forgive but never forget. Forgive yourself for mistakes but never make the same mistake twice. 8. Work on your weaknesses as much as your strengths, balance is key. Can’t be balances with the same number of weaknesses as strengths. Weaknesses don’t counter your strengths they make your strengths weaker. ie. A QB that never looks off the receiver becomes a great armed QB with a ton of interceptions. What good is that?
9. Stay emotional stable. Proving your right may be wrong for the team and your championship aspirations. 10. Most Important!!! Play every down like its your last. It just may be.

The helmets look great. I would like to see the hive in gold too. I think we need more hive images around the stadium, campus and city. Listen, great play on the field will always be the cure to any and all of our current issues and challenges. But, future athletes aren’t into tradition, they are into flash. I have always seen the flash in being a student athlete at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Having the ability to play D1 football and study at one of the greatest academic institutions in the country carries a ton of flash. But that light bulb doesn’t always give off the light needed to attract the youth of today. Look at Oregon. Are you serious, why would you want to go to Oregon? Tell me the flashy uniforms didn’t have anything to do with it. I have seen more Oregon window decals in the last year than I have in the 20 plus since I have lived here. I believe the white helmet and uniform we wore for the Retro game against UVA when Calvin Johnson was here was the best. We won that game. Fans, enjoy the change. Its new and exciting and inspires conversation. Conversation about your Alma Mater. Players, remember you make the uniform not the other way around. Its’ still about winning. Kudos to the Marketing Department, Russell Athlete’s and those who will wear whatever and play well in it. GO JACKETS!!!

Im a Dawg fan, so pardon the intrusion. The Dawgs have had their fair share uniform deviations over the past few years, and not to much success. While I do like the black jerseys, that trend dropped like a rock. And lets not forget the red fire hydrant unis Nike was so kind to grace them with when the Broncos whizzed on them at the Dome, or the Grambling-style helmets and black pants they wore to Jacksonville…truely embarrassing.

My point? With the exception of Oregon (who has no standard uniform), extreme deviations from the standard have little success. Now, while I can’t stand you guys, I do like the gold GT helmet. Want a fresher look? Use the gold GT helmet and surround the logo with the ‘chicken wire’ honeycomb. Maybe even go as far as to replace the GT with a yellow jacket. This proposed helmet looks symbolic of what has happened to Penn State’s program. I hope you won’t lower your standards and lose what little respect I do have for your program.

I like it! I’ve personally been telling anyone at Tech that would listen that uni’s are a BIG marketing tool for recruits. I still want them to use the white helmet w/ the GT on it that they used a few years back while Calvin Johnson was here. I’d reverse the colors—gold helmet with white honeycomb (or chickenwire effect) and white stripe with white GT on side.

Interesting that the number of comments are about 400% greater than the standard article. Talk about the pistol and new wrinkles in our offense and you get 100 comments—talk about a helmet change and you get over 400 comments. If creating “buzz” (pun intended) is desired, then GT has been successful.
