New helmets for Georgia Tech?
Multiple Georgia Tech players posted Twitter pictures of a helmet that may see action on Monday night in the season opener against Virginia Tech.
“We do have a second helmet that we have to wear a few times in practice in case we want to wear it during the season,” Tech spokesman Dean Buchan said.
Quarterback/A-back Synjyn Days tweeted a photo of the helmet with the message “New helmets … Lets Get It 9/3.” (The photo below is from his account.)
The helmet is white with adjoining hexagons, creating a yellow jacket nest motif. It is a rather significant departure from Tech’s traditional gold helmet and is an answer to the cries of many fans and some players for a fresher look. Tech will wear its white road uniform with blue trim.
“I just feel like we need to come up with some Russell combat uniforms or something,” Days said last week.

Who cares what all you think? This is for the players and they seem to like it.
For all you people saying you don’t like the helmets but it’s not because you are old, you are just lying to yourselves. That is exactly why you don’t like them. You are no longer in college and what you liked in college is mostly likely not popular today.

If you think these helmets are bad—check out the ones VT will be wearing. I’d rather have a honeycomb than Turkey feet ( that look more like turkey tu rds).
However, this is a sign…..a prophecy…our chicken wire helmets are going to put those turkey feet in the coop. You read it here first.

Im a Dawg fan, so pardon the intrusion. The Dawgs have had their fair share uniform deviations over the past few years, and not to much success. While I do like the black jerseys, that trend dropped like a rock. And lets not forget the red fire hydrant unis Nike was so kind to grace them with when the Broncos whizzed on them at the Dome, or the Grambling-style helmets and black pants they wore to Jacksonville…truely embarrassing.
My point? With the exception of Oregon (who has no standard uniform), extreme deviations from the standard have little success. Now, while I can’t stand you guys, I do like the gold GT helmet. Want a fresher look? Use the gold GT helmet and surround the logo with the ‘chicken wire’ honeycomb. Maybe even go as far as to replace the GT with a yellow jacket. This proposed helmet looks symbolic of what has happened to Penn State’s program. I hope you won’t lower your standards and lose what little respect I do have for your program.

I became a Tech fan when McAshan(?) was the pouty quarterback. Why can’t we just play football and not pander to any group as a marketing gimmick? By the way, toe meets leather should be put on a bronze plaque and only spoken with reverence. Go Jackets!

Finally, a helmet that looks WORSE than the one we opened with last year. GT needs to drop Russell and move on to a different uniform partner. Surely there are some alumni that could but out that contract!

Obviously, I’m not a Techie. This helmet looks pretty cool, but they should’ve kept the Tech logo and maintain the gold color. It beats what I saw last year against Boise State – I hope there’s a red and black high school team somewhere far, far away using those things this year.

Nnnnnnnnoooooooooooooo! A honeycomb (looks more like chicken wire) motif to replace one of the most recognizable helmets in college football?
The ‘GT’ logo on gold was a classic design.
What’s next? Replacing Buzz with Spongebob Squarepants? The Ramblin’ Wreck with a Mini Cooper?
How about replacing that hoary old fight song? This is Atlanta. Surely one of the local artists who call our fair city home can scribble off a more contemporary tune to fire up the fans.

Their ugly. Maryland state flag helmets are ugly but it works. GT helmets on the other hand are just plain ugly. I think GT should were this helmet against Maryland with their state flag helmets. We can call it the ugly helmet bowl. Oregon is exempt. The chrome helmets that wore in the Rose Bowl are the coolest helmets ever.

I like it! I’ve personally been telling anyone at Tech that would listen that uni’s are a BIG marketing tool for recruits. I still want them to use the white helmet w/ the GT on it that they used a few years back while Calvin Johnson was here. Those were the cleanest look GT has– and that throwback should be thrown into heavy rotation a la the falcons and the red helmet look we get to see twice a year.

Tech is Old Gold and White. Go back to it. The ’60’s uniforms were great. Traditional and classic. In fact most all of the “new” look uniforms are ugly as Nancy Pelosi.
