New helmets for Georgia Tech?

Multiple Georgia Tech players posted Twitter pictures of a helmet that may see action on Monday night in the season opener against Virginia Tech.

“We do have a second helmet that we have to wear a few times in practice in case we want to wear it during the season,” Tech spokesman Dean Buchan said.

Quarterback/A-back Synjyn Days tweeted a photo of the helmet with the message “New helmets … Lets Get It 9/3.” (The photo below is from his account.)

The helmet is white with adjoining hexagons, creating a yellow jacket nest motif. It is a rather significant departure from Tech’s traditional gold helmet and is an answer to the cries of many fans and some players for a fresher look. Tech will wear its white road uniform with blue trim.

“I just feel like we need to come up with some Russell combat uniforms or something,” Days said last week.

I guess it’s a slow night on the multiple dog blogs. No all day suckers, no all day hand wringing, no all day gum slapping, no mindless banter so you come over here to offer an opinion. No Tech fan cares about your worthless drivel. Get over yourselves!
Sure you’ll beat Buffalo. You guys/gals should be worried about Mizzou. They will kick your arses.
Go to your blogs and worry about those Tigers. They have their sights on you pups. Be afraid, be very afraid! No amount of your smack talk scares them. They are ready! Are you?

It would look more like a real yellowjacket hive it the helmet were gold and the hexagons were white. Remember when Tech scrapped the old yellowjacket with the stinger out of its nose? Get scientific with the helmet, guys!

Take a big club to hit that golf-ball, just kidding. If it makes you happy, go for it, but there’s nothing wrong with tradition. I like the “gold” better, but that’s just me, one of the over 30 crowd. Play a game with it and get more feedback. You will get a lot of jokers, but if you feel you need a change, go for it. Go Dawgs…

Nice idea but would have looked better if the color scheme was blue and gold, included gt logo on the side.

Add the GT and it has potential. I’m not going to get my hopes up, but maybe Tech is finally making a step in the right direction. It’s amazing that a school that prides itself so much in technology, and somewhat in business, has allowed their ‘brand’ to fall so short of excellence. Our uniforms (and overall brand) have been a joke for years. But like I said, HOPEFULLY this is a step in the right direction.

Go Jackets, Lehhh Go!

I am a Dawg fan, but lived for seven years in Eugene, OR (Home of the Oregon Ducks). I hate the Ducks with a passion and wouldn’t wish their uniform ideas on my worst enemy. I won’t pass judgement on the Tech helmet, but I hope you guys either put the “GT” on the helmet or go back to your regular helmets. Too many teams try to stray from tradition. That gold helmet is sharp and recognizable as Georgia Tech. When UGA tried their crappy changes from our red helmets, it was a disaster. Our red helmets look sharp and you know UGA is on the field when we were them. Just leave the changes alone or make minor charges to the uniform itself to freshen the look. The helmets should stay traditional- leave them alone. Tech’s helmet is absolutely fine the way it was! The gold looks just fine!

It’s not a honey comb design. It’s a yellow jacket nest. Honestly, do this helmet for one game and go back to the gold. If there’s one thing that hasn’t gotten worn out over the years, it the gold helmet. The jersey change in ‘08 was needed.

I don;t go by OldSchool for nothing. This helmet design is absolutely horrendous!!!! I like what a couple of fans wrote earlier today: looks like a golf ball or like someone ran through a mesh fence. At least the uniform change a couple years ago had similarities to the traditional jersey. This helmet design is so far out of left field it is unbelievable. Remember what happened to our “friends” in Athens went to the black helmets for the game against Bama a few years ago, and then the debacle in the Dome against Boise State? Nuff said. But…..with all that said if they whip VT on Monday night then wear ‘em till they lose……and then go back to the traditional helmets.

This quote by Savannah Jacket is so true:

People remember the helmet is not finished yet smh…..im pretty sure they are going ti add the GT on it as the finished product…I find it funny how other programs like Oregon Mich ND FSU just to name a few can do a lil change every now and then and there fans embrace it but GT change a helmet design for one big game and its like then end of the world as we know it….if you going to stop coming to games because of this then you wasnt a fan to begin with any d@#n way….Ijs….oh yeah to hell with Ga.

We need to do something fresh, do it well, and then go back to our traditional uniforms (which do in fact need a ton of work). I can promise you it won’t hurt our perception. No one has written off a program for changing up their uniforms for a game or two. Recruits LOVE IT, the players LOVE IT. And I can assure you if you were to poll the top recruits in the nation about uniforms we would rank very low. Style is important to people in general. Which is why a man with money chooses to ride around in a Lexus or Range Rover, not some beat up clunker.

Bring on some STYLE GT! Go Jackets!

August 29th, 2012

If trying to work off the ol’ clever yellow jacket angle, how bout black and yellow stripes? It’s be less abstract and more bangin’ for the young crowd. Or just do small horizontal yellow and black stripes all the way down the big vertical stripe on the helmet (short-ways, like a ladder, not long-ways).

All cellular service providers could be contacted to provide advertising, as the interlocking hexagons represent how cell service areas are designed. That having been said (and it no doubt went over most heads), a Georgia Tech helmet just is not right without the interlocking “GT” logo. At least put THAT on the God-awful helmets. (Liberals, as usual, will have to Google “God” to find out what “that” is.)

8/29/2012 Success Tip 7: Remember the Basics Defense: 1. Get to the Ball and Tackle. Get to the ball and intercept it. Get to the ball and knock it down. Simply get to the ball. Relentless pursuit to the ball yields tremendous results in your favor. 2. Get your head in the game. A smart defensive players is the most aggressive and effective. You must understand your opponent better then they know themselves.Instincts are predicated on intelligence. 3. Understand your advantages. Defense has 13 players and Offense has 11. Did you know this? if not. you are not taking time to understand your advantages. The offense can only advance the ball in-bounds. Using the sidelines as your 12th and 13th man can be quite beneficial. 4. Your plan B should be better than your A plan. This has been labelled as Technique or the RB button in XBOX, or what makes you the difference maker. The chance to make a play only ends once the whistle blows. 5. When you have a chance to intercept the ball or recover a fumble. Do it. Drives end with turnovers. But, games have been won on second chances. Don’t give the offense a second chance to beat you. 6. Never underestimate your opponent. Play at the same level of intensity always. What difference does it make whether they are FCS or #1 in the country. Kick their butts. 7. Forgive but never forget. Forgive yourself for mistakes but never make the same mistake twice. 8. Work on your weaknesses as much as your strengths, balance is key. Can’t be balances with the same number of weaknesses as strengths. Weaknesses don’t counter your strengths they make your strengths weaker. ie. A QB that never looks off the receiver becomes a great armed QB with a ton of interceptions. What good is that?
9. Stay emotional stable. Proving your right may be wrong for the team and your championship aspirations. 10. Most Important!!! Play every down like its your last. It just may be.

The helmets look great. I would like to see the hive in gold too. I think we need more hive images around the stadium, campus and city. Listen, great play on the field will always be the cure to any and all of our current issues and challenges. But, future athletes aren’t into tradition, they are into flash. I have always seen the flash in being a student athlete at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Having the ability to play D1 football and study at one of the greatest academic institutions in the country carries a ton of flash. But that light bulb doesn’t always give off the light needed to attract the youth of today. Look at Oregon. Are you serious, why would you want to go to Oregon? Tell me the flashy uniforms didn’t have anything to do with it. I have seen more Oregon window decals in the last year than I have in the 20 plus since I have lived here. I believe the white helmet and uniform we wore for the Retro game against UVA when Calvin Johnson was here was the best. We won that game. Fans, enjoy the change. Its new and exciting and inspires conversation. Conversation about your Alma Mater. Players, remember you make the uniform not the other way around. Its’ still about winning. Kudos to the Marketing Department, Russell Athlete’s and those who will wear whatever and play well in it. GO JACKETS!!!

This is not a yellow jacket motif, it is a honey comb design more consistent with a bee. Just plain stupid. Almost as stupid as our Power Rangers uniforms from the debacle in the Chick-fila Kick-Off game last year. Fans need to “Just Say No!”

Some yellow jackets do make aerial nests. But I think the ones Georgians are most likely to encounter are ground-dwelling.
As for the uniforms, Tech needs to reprise the classic Dodd-era look. Helmets gold. No logo. Shirts white at home , black away. Pants gold at home, white away. Stripes yes, swooshes no. Without a logo in sight, everyone recognized that uniform as Tech’s. But lately, if it were not for the logo, the uniforms could be any directional state college or large Texas high school.

Somebody on here doesn’t know much. Yes, yellow jackets live in the ground. But what do their nests look like? Like a bird’s nest? Just lay their eggs in holes in the ground? Or some other thingy I can’t imagine? No people, they look like a wasp nest with 6 sided (hexagonal) cells. They are of the wasp family of insects, BTW. As for the helmets, I hope the reports of having the GT on the sides is correct. If this is just for the one game, how about the same gold helmet they wear now with the same hexagonal pattern in white. Someone said the white (new) helmet has gold hexagons. Maybe even wear the white a couple times a year. And, I emailed this and some other things to DRad last year. For each good play (coaching staff’s choice on this-someone has to make the decision), the players get a yellow jacket inside the cells. Much the same as the Georgie players get a dwag bone or the OSU players get a buckeye. I kinda like it. But would like to see all of the above changes implemented. Having new, somewhat more modern looking unis would be a positive factor in recruiting. I sorta think each uniform change in GT’s history has met with backlash from older grads & fans. Just saying/asking!!!
