New helmets for Georgia Tech?
Multiple Georgia Tech players posted Twitter pictures of a helmet that may see action on Monday night in the season opener against Virginia Tech.
“We do have a second helmet that we have to wear a few times in practice in case we want to wear it during the season,” Tech spokesman Dean Buchan said.
Quarterback/A-back Synjyn Days tweeted a photo of the helmet with the message “New helmets … Lets Get It 9/3.” (The photo below is from his account.)
The helmet is white with adjoining hexagons, creating a yellow jacket nest motif. It is a rather significant departure from Tech’s traditional gold helmet and is an answer to the cries of many fans and some players for a fresher look. Tech will wear its white road uniform with blue trim.
“I just feel like we need to come up with some Russell combat uniforms or something,” Days said last week.

They’re not horrible, especially when compared to some of the other teams newly designed helmets, but they’re not Tech. Even if they slap a GT on the side of em, they still seem way too kitschy for my taste. Just one man’s opinion.

I’m 28 and I’m all for changing things up. but the helmets look horrible. that being said, I’ll still be cheering for the jackets come monday night, ugly helmets included!

can anyone say “distraction” ? lets take the field scar up the paint on whatever helment we wear ! We have a golden opportunity this season for 10-2 , just a little defense and if Days contributes just a little to ease Orwin’s load , we are there!

Well, GT has some tradition with the Gold helmets. Of course, anyone that is younger than 50 is surprised by that fact. So, I guess its alright to go with a silly “modern” helmet.

I’ve been a jacket fan for a long time. I recently left Atlanta for a position in Illinois. I’ve been wanting some fresh and new for a while. I’m at my desk GOIN NUTS!!! LOVE IT!!! I say add the GT. Then, go with the Navy Blue Helmets w/the Jacket on it. I’m ready for some football.

@ Superdwag, since I know you won’t take the time to get the FACTS, let me tell you that an early blackout game was played between FSU and BC in 2006. Even though FSU doesn’t have black as a primary color, they still had blackout games, and they had them before UGA did. I guess CMR brought them to Athens from Tallahassee. So, UGA copied FSU, an ACC team……HA !!!!

I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ALL SUMMER!!! LET’S GET IT ON!!! The team wore white helmets several years ago. Clearly, it wasn’t this design, but they did wear white helmets. I think it was the Notre Dame game in Atlanta.

I’m a UGA fan, & I’m used to the classic Tech helmet look. The only thing I want to add here is I want to know what whoever designed the new helmets was drinking or smoking, because I don’t want none of that!

They are kind of cool, if you ignore the fact that yellow jackets don’t make honeycombs, but it seems to be that once you get more than 20 feet away from those helmets they’re going to look like white helmets. No?

I dont post but for this issue I am! These helmets are just as crappy and crazy looking as our coach. Our program will stay terrible until PJ can learn that the offense we run is outdated. A ugly helmet will not change a thing. Another mediocre year and another loss to UGA.

As a Tech alum, I’m disgusted. It looks like someone strung chicken wire over the helmet. I like the tradition of a GT on the helmet which shows respect for the school. P.J better damn well stop f##king up the uniforms and start winning some more games, namely UGA. He has this season to to do a lot better or we’ll be replacing him, he can’t live off that one ACC Championship the rest of his life.

People remember the helmet is not finished yet smh…..im pretty sure they are going ti add the GT on it as the finished product…I find it funny how other programs like Oregon Mich ND FSU just to name a few can do a lil change every now and then and there fans embrace it but GT change a helmet design for one big game and its like then end of the world as we know it….if you going to stop coming to games because of this then you wasnt a fan to begin with any d@#n way….Ijs….oh yeah to hell with Ga.

@ pj……..so what if you think the offense is outdated. We have ranked high nationally every year since CPJ arrived in rushing offense, and the total offense isn’t far behind; we DO need more passing yards to get us highly ranked in total offense, but the offense certainly hasn’t hurt us. What hurts is not having had an adequate defense to get the other team off the field. Give us a average to good defense, and your complaints will go by the wayside. I GUARANTEE YOU !!!

Great! GT can record all the fumbles and INTs in those little octagons on the new helmets!

@ Ostrich Racer…….actually yellow jacket nests, no matter where they are DO have a honeycomb-type structure. There are hexagonal cells. Not defending the helmet design, but technically speaking, it’s not wrong

I thought they were the yellow jackets, if I remember correctly it is the honey bee that produces a comb. Yellow jackets have hives in the ground. I have no idea who came up with this design but it sure gave me a good laugh. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DAWGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
