New helmets for Georgia Tech?
Multiple Georgia Tech players posted Twitter pictures of a helmet that may see action on Monday night in the season opener against Virginia Tech.
“We do have a second helmet that we have to wear a few times in practice in case we want to wear it during the season,” Tech spokesman Dean Buchan said.
Quarterback/A-back Synjyn Days tweeted a photo of the helmet with the message “New helmets … Lets Get It 9/3.” (The photo below is from his account.)
The helmet is white with adjoining hexagons, creating a yellow jacket nest motif. It is a rather significant departure from Tech’s traditional gold helmet and is an answer to the cries of many fans and some players for a fresher look. Tech will wear its white road uniform with blue trim.
“I just feel like we need to come up with some Russell combat uniforms or something,” Days said last week.

If we were the Honey Bees then I could go for this new look.
But we are theYellow Jacketsand this is not what aYellow Jackets nestlooks like. The second we go with this we will be laughed at for being stupid. I am up for new looks at certain times, but at least lets do it right and not look like idiots. Back to the drawing board.

Uniforms aside, I just wish Russell Athletics would learn that our primary colors are white and gold and quit cramming the shelves of the bookstore and every other outlet with fan gear that is neither gold nor white.

@ Golden White……that is obviously true, but Tech has been using the HIVE design in other ways other than uniforms for several years now. I think the concept is pretty cool, but it doesn’t come across to well in that particular helmet design.

What was so wrong with the white-outs, dwagfan. At least we won. That’s more than the dwags can say about their last black-out. And as far as uniform changes, Tech has been altering uniforms since the 1970s, while UGA’s uniforms remained pretty much constant. I think it’s more like UGA copied Tech there

I have no problem with it being displayed in Blacksburg being as it is national tv. With the logo on it I think it will look pretty good. Biggest factor is the players like it. Remember they wanted to wear a black helmet for the Clemson game last year, but it got scrapped by CPJ after the two losses.

No, I think its more like you’re just making stuff up now because you don’t have anything else to say. We did our first blackout and within weeks the Techies were talking “White Out”. This is a fact. Then we did some funky uniforms for our first game last year and now your joke program wants to do the same this year. Just a lot of funny coincidences there if you ask me.

This is another move by radakovich to change everything at Georgia Tech and do away with tradition. We have lost Alexander Memorial Coliseum for something call the Mcquimish pavillion. When I wrote him and said when they rebuild Boddy Dodd he will come up with a new name if someone donates enough money and he didn’t disagree in his response. I didn’t buy basketball season tickets just because money is never an acceptable reason to change a traditional name. Especially when the donor never played a sport. Now we are getting these God awful looking helments. For a program that doesn’t fill up it’s stadium they need to start asking their season ticket holders what they like before they just go and do something stupd. Remember the horrible time people had when they tried to make everyone go in a particular gate. I have been a season ticket holder for many years but it is getting to the point of why bother. I’m not sure who we are anymore and it started with drad. I did like the uniforms everyone is calling the “throw back,” but this is too much. Those jerseys were old gold with the white helment. The current helment color would look awful on that uniform too. I didn’t care much for the blue jersey white pant combination but blue with old gold pants would look good with the white helment. There are many acceptable combinations but this is total crap.My next response will be to drad with the statemnet if this continues he will lose me as a season ticket holder. I didn’t go to Tech but I have 2 daughters that are graduates so I have 2 tickets and they have 1 each. What they do will be up to them. But I’m guessing Drad won’t care unless others fill his email with similar responses as he won’t miss 2 tickets all that much. Sorry to have been so long. All have a great evening.
