New helmets for Georgia Tech?
Multiple Georgia Tech players posted Twitter pictures of a helmet that may see action on Monday night in the season opener against Virginia Tech.
“We do have a second helmet that we have to wear a few times in practice in case we want to wear it during the season,” Tech spokesman Dean Buchan said.
Quarterback/A-back Synjyn Days tweeted a photo of the helmet with the message “New helmets … Lets Get It 9/3.” (The photo below is from his account.)
The helmet is white with adjoining hexagons, creating a yellow jacket nest motif. It is a rather significant departure from Tech’s traditional gold helmet and is an answer to the cries of many fans and some players for a fresher look. Tech will wear its white road uniform with blue trim.
“I just feel like we need to come up with some Russell combat uniforms or something,” Days said last week.

I think this is a very forward design that (frankly) needed to happen. The logo is cool for kids but still connected in context to the school. I hope Russell can match…

It’s not as bad as the proposed new Notre Dame helmets or the UGA power ranger unis from last year, but it sure doesn’t do much for me. Nobody in the stands is even going to be able to see the mesh, so why bother? I agree with one poster who said gold helmet with a black honeycomb, but regardless it has got to have some kind of logo on it. A bigger complaint that I have is that they are unveiling it on the road. I think any changes should first be revealed at a home game, not a road game.

You are terrible fans and I am beyond dissapointed in the response… No wonder we dont sell out the stadium… We are not Alabama, Penn State(who are also changing thier uniforms) or all of the other super traditional uniformed schools. We have had multiple different uniforms over the past couple decades. Not to mention i remember the yellow jacket fans response to the 70’s era uniforms that came out in a few years back. Everyone hated them that night, but now it is commonly the most loved uniform of yellow jacket fans. Get off your high horse and support the team. This is a way to bring youth into the stadium instead of having all you 60 plus years olds reading a book or yelling at me to sit down when i am cheering for the jackets. Its time to move forward, and if this excites the players, and possibly new recruits then I am all for it. As long as we stay consistant they can come out in pink uniforms and i will be on the sideline in a matching replica. I am a fan of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets… and no uniform will ever change that. BTW many of the sports analysts are glorifying this helmet and talking about that it may be the best looking new lid in college football this year. Quit your belly aching and cheer! GOOOOOO JACKETS!!!!! BEAT THE TURKEYS!!!!!

I LOVE THEM! I am all for tradition however Tech is like every other school in existence they need to generate as much money as possible from sales of licensed merchandise, I know if this helmet was available for sell I would be purchasing one.

Looks like a flipping golf ball! No GT or personalization on the helmet is a bit bland. The next thing we will be doing is having fake wasp wings on the back of jerseys….Just sayin’.

I am going out and buying merch the first chance I get if it has the honeycomb design on it. It’s amazing that this wasn’t done earlier, being that this design is all over the GTAA and football facilities.

All the troll remarks on here (not counting the REAL UGA fans) remind me of the old song that began, “Fish gotta swim. Birds gotta fly……” We could add “trolls gotta troll” to it. But the final line (with modification) still remains, “Can’t help lovin’ that TEAM of mine.” I am not fond of that helmet design, but I am a Tech fan till the day I die.

I absolutely love these helmets with or without a GT logo. It’s not like the team is putting more focus on the helmets/unis than they are in preparation for the game. Nothing wrong with doing something like this for the players/fans for a big game to get everyone pumped up! I can’t wait for 9/3! The Jackets are going to have a big year!

That is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. If you want to change the helmet, go back to the style worn in the 60’s with the stripe down the middle. But then again, it doesn’t matter what you wear, it’s not the helmet or the uniform that win ball games, it’s the players.

Whoever is designing these helmets are not true sports fans. They are making our teams look like circus clowns on the field. You do not have to be a certain age to dislike the new designs. Nor a traditionalist. It just looks stupid. If you want to dress and look like an amateur softball team then go play amateur softball. All you have to do is remember how horrible Maryland’s helmets and uniforms looked last year to not want to go there.

Personally, I think this helmet looks silly. I am in favor of the traditional gold helmets. Opponents need to see the gold helmet and know they are up against the famed Yellow Jackets.

Reverse the colors (gold filling, white hexagon), put the GT on, then use the hexagons for shirt and pant striping down the sides……

Tech wears white jerseys at away games, and have been wearing the gold pants with them o go along with the gold helmets. They will continue to wear white at away games, and home games if possible, so now use your imagination as to what color the pants and helmets will be…and the shoes.

@ Over 35……why didn’t you like the Friday Night Spring Game? I thought it was a great idea and an awesome atmosphere. Hell, it’s the first spring game I have been to since 1965, and I loved it. I’ll go again next year if the do it on Friday night again.
