New helmets for Georgia Tech?
Multiple Georgia Tech players posted Twitter pictures of a helmet that may see action on Monday night in the season opener against Virginia Tech.
“We do have a second helmet that we have to wear a few times in practice in case we want to wear it during the season,” Tech spokesman Dean Buchan said.
Quarterback/A-back Synjyn Days tweeted a photo of the helmet with the message “New helmets … Lets Get It 9/3.” (The photo below is from his account.)
The helmet is white with adjoining hexagons, creating a yellow jacket nest motif. It is a rather significant departure from Tech’s traditional gold helmet and is an answer to the cries of many fans and some players for a fresher look. Tech will wear its white road uniform with blue trim.
“I just feel like we need to come up with some Russell combat uniforms or something,” Days said last week.

Will have to wait to see the whole uniform to make an informed decision. At the moment, no the helmet does not look good. Why not go back to the white helmet from the 60’s and 70’s if you want a change.

We had new uniforms in the 7th grade and a school from across town with no uniforms ( old clothes ) kicked our butts. True story. Keep tradition.

Just glad it’s not us suffering from the “new uniforms will make us play bad” talk this season. My heart is with all the Tech fans who don’t really care about special uniforms but will suffer through the negative comments of the fans who do think you’ll go 0-12 for wearing them one game.

I can’t say I am a fan of this new helmet but it could be worse. Another team that has a classic gold helmet has really jumped the shark.

OMG……seriously? This is horrible. Not as bad as UGAG was last year, but it’s a close second. I hate to see what the finish product will be. I was looking forward to opening night, now I am not so sure.

Nope. No sale here. And if any player could be influenced by a helmet he doesn’t belong at Tech – try further to the NE where they are fashion conscience..even when being booked. And that isn’t ‘booked’ as in learning, it’s as in jail.

It’s not as if we UGA fans have a collective leg to stand on…..our Power Ranger unis against Boise last year were just an abomination.
That being said, this is quite a departure for the NATS….but I think it actually would not be bad with a standard GT logo on each side.
I am sure the kids love them, which is always all that matters in this case.
Basically, if GT upsets VT, they will be looked upon fondly, if GT loses to VT, they will be the ugliest uniforms they’ve ever worn and you will have to stick to traditional unis going forward.
That’s usually how something like this goes. Anyway, good luck against the Hokies….I have always disliked them for some reason.

Actually we need to go back to the Unis that GT wore when we won the MNC with Shawn Jones at QB, Blue Jerseys, White Pants, Gold Helmets at home.
White jerseys, Gold pants, gold helmets on the road.
For special occasions we can go with the throwback mustard-colored jerseys and White helmets, to go with White pants, i.e the Calvin Johnson look.
Before we do any of that we NEED TO FIRE RUSSELL and go with either Nike or Adidas as our apparel supplier.

As a traditionalist I like the gold headgear. At least they could add a GT.
Would have had a better impact if it had been a gameday surprise rather than a player tweet. Players need to surrender their iphones

HOLY CRAP, I finally agree with Wheenie on something. I only read his comment because I was wondering how he was going to twist something like a new helmet.
Personally, it doesn’t matter a rat’s arse what I think about the uniforms. As long as the team likes it, I’m fine, to a certain extent. It’s not like they have all decided to wear their pants halfway down their arse. I would have a problem with that.
