New helmets for Georgia Tech?
Multiple Georgia Tech players posted Twitter pictures of a helmet that may see action on Monday night in the season opener against Virginia Tech.
“We do have a second helmet that we have to wear a few times in practice in case we want to wear it during the season,” Tech spokesman Dean Buchan said.
Quarterback/A-back Synjyn Days tweeted a photo of the helmet with the message “New helmets … Lets Get It 9/3.” (The photo below is from his account.)
The helmet is white with adjoining hexagons, creating a yellow jacket nest motif. It is a rather significant departure from Tech’s traditional gold helmet and is an answer to the cries of many fans and some players for a fresher look. Tech will wear its white road uniform with blue trim.
“I just feel like we need to come up with some Russell combat uniforms or something,” Days said last week.

they do look pretty cool. At least if you are gonna get creative with the uni’s (which the 18 year olds love by the way) you can have something cool and not something dumb like Maryland.

While I like the new look somewhat, I think they could have also kept tradition at the same time by leaving the gold GT on the sides of the helmet with the bee hives in the background. Just my take though.

You ought to see the rest of the uniform before you pass judgement, including the finished helmet (notice no face mask or GA Tech indicator). I can assure you it’s not Oregon, Maryland, or UGA from their 1st game last season…

They will have something on the side of them. If you look at our gold helmets they do not have gt logos on them either. Only game day helmets have logos on them and they have to wear them in practice.

So I’m an actuary and I went to tech. Pause for jokes.
Anyway, I’m also thirty two and I hate this helmet, but not for the same reason as everybody else seems to. Sure it’s ugly and who really needs a bunch of hexagons on the side of a helmet, but I just hate gimmicks. Does anybody remember what’s happened the last two times we played in our “really cool” navy jerseys. We stunk. Georgia was all pumped about their black helmets and unis…guess what, they stunk too. Why can’t we just focus on making our blocks, holding onto the football, and with a little grace from above, tackling Logan Thomas…

Guys, no need to get worked up in a frenzy over this. CPJ was the one who wanted to go back to the tradition of wear white tops and gold bottoms at home, so I’m sure this won’t be a permanent thing when its said and done. Its something different GT hasn’t done before and they’ll try it out for this game with it being on national tv then they’ll go back to the regular gold helmets.

I would like to see the “comb” effect on the uniform, as well as the GT on the helmet…While most may not like the idea. updates and changing uniforms is huge in recruiting as well as expanding the fan base.

After counting with my fingers, thencheckin, then referring to a dictionary, I have confirmed that the shape is in fact a hexagon. I thought it was a sixagon, but it turns out it izn’t.

Theres been rumblings around the net thats its actually going to be a brand new jersey design and russel hired a third party designer for the jersey no pics of the design is out yet but some of the coaches and players have seen it on a Ipad so lets just see what the whole jersey looks like bfor we bash it personally I love the fresh look.

The words for what this helmet looks like cannot be posted on this blog. Basically it looks like chicken wire on the helmet. I guess the rest of the uniform will be black and white horizontal stripes so that they can complete the chain gang theme. Tech must trying to keep up with ugag by giving off the impression that prison is a good thing.
