Bobby Cremins to assist GTAA

A Georgia Tech legend has returned to the fold in full. Former men’s basketball coach Bobby Cremins, who retired from coaching in March, will assist the Tech athletic department in alumni outreach and other activities to support coach Brian Gregory’s program.

Gregory has spoken with respect and admiration for Cremins since his hire. The two had known each other prior to Gregory’s hire and Cremins has reached out to him since he became the Yellow Jackets coach in March 2011. The two will speak at a news conference Wednesday to discuss Cremins’ involvement.

Cremins coached Tech from 1981 to 2000, putting together a record of 354-237 while winning three ACC championships and making 10 NCAA tournament appearances. After a five-year sabbatical, Cremins finished his coaching career with six seasons at the College of Charleston.

ryBuzz, please don’t ever come on here again and say nothing but “First.” we are primarily Tech fans and we normally don’t do silly stuff like that. Just go ahead and offer an intelligent comment. It doesn’t matter if you are first or fifteenth.

With apologies to Whack Hyder, Bobby Cremins put Tech basketball on the map. It’s great Brian Gregory has brought him back into the fold. With Bobby involved, I’m sure we’ll see a lot of Tech alumni (former players) being more involved as well.

Oh, this is an amazing move! This man will definitely get alumni involved if they weren’t already! What a fantastic insurance policy against the startup struggles of a new coach fielding a developing team in a new venue – just get the man the court is named after to hobnob with your important alumni! Brilliant! I hope Bobby Cremins has an office on GT’s campus as long as he wants it!

GO JACKETS!

One of the things that Hewitt failed to do after the title run all the way up until he was fired was find a way to get alumni and students truly involved and invested into the program. And that is what I see Coach Gregory doing right now. He’s involved with the students, he’s bringing alumni into the fold consistently, and he is taking this program in a direction that it probably hasn’t seen his Cremins own glory days here on the Tech campus. I keep saying this, but even if this year doesn’t give us more wins than the previous year, I already feel confident in saying that I can see this program moving in the right direction. The recruiting has been very strong, the alumni involvement is being rebuilt, and as a student, I can personally attest to the fact that students are starting to get more and more interested in what the Basketball Program is doing. I see nothing but good things ahead. Keep up the good work Coach Gregory, I know I’ll be there to support you and the team as the season begins!

The ‘85 squad was Cremins’ best Team.
G’Town was a monster in those days.
Tech coulda/woulda won that game in the Elite 8.
If GT beat the Hoyas, they cut the nets down!!!

Bobby Cremins is living proof that you don’t have to be intelligent or articulate to succeed.

In other news, Whack Hyder will be working on behlaf of the Alexander-Tharpe Fund.

Bobby — after Hewitt, it could only get better. The only direction possible was North!!
It’s debatable which contract was worse in the history of Atl sports — Jon Koncak or Paul Hewitt.

John Koncak? Did he ever play for a title? Paul Hewitt did get GT to a National Championship game, Cremins didn’t. I miss Bobby, and am thrilled he is still on board with the Jackets!

Good move by CBG..
I hope this translates in more wins, I like the recruiting so far, but Hewitt could recruit. Good Luck

Too bad for College of Charleston, but Cremins was the most recognized coach at GT. Where would they be without him? When you think GT basketball, you mostly think Cremins (except for the one year Hewitt made it to the finals).

Paul Hewitt had a never ending contract that increased as time went along. Its hard to beat that.

This move should complete the renovation of the “ThrillerDome”. Bringing Bobby back will reignite the positive Mojo we have had at this site in the past, and should complete the exorcism of the CPH era.
