Nealy recounts Menocal strip of Thomas

I wrote last Saturday about outside linebacker Nick Menocal chasing down quarterback Justin Thomas and stripping him of the ball in the team’s scrimmage. Inside linebacker Quayshawn Nealy offered his account of the play.

On the play, Thomas got loose down the right sideline and about 40 yards down the field, cut back to the inside. Menocal, who was pursuing on Thomas’ left shoulder, caught up to him at that point and removed the ball from Thomas’ grasp. Thomas, you may recall, won the Alabama Class 4A-6A 100-meter dash championship in the spring.

“It was very impressive, because Justin Thomas is real fast and elusive,” Nealy said. “Nick just didn’t give up on the play and he chased (Thomas) all the way down about 40, 45 yards and stripped him of the ball. That’s a great play in our book. Any takeaway that we can have, I don’t care if it’s on the goal line, wherever, we’ll take.”

Georgia Tech will scrimmage again Saturday morning. It is closed to the public.

Get info, Ken Sugiura, can you tell me of the status of the few remaining recruiting slots, is there anyone leaning towards the yellow Jackets, are there any areas that the Yellow Jackets want to up grade in this recruiting year and whats the possibilities of getting a big defensive tackle in this class?

I think VT’s helmets with the square root of 1 make them appear as dumb jocks b/c anybody knows the square root of 1 is 1.

Practices were closed last year, also, and I believe a year or two before then, so it’s not related to Virginia Tech. I know in the past, when spring practice was open to the public, there were people writing up detailed summaries of what was going on, which didn’t sit well with coaches, so that’s at least partly why practices are closed. I think the scrimmages being closed does have to do with the Virginia Tech game. They’ve usually been open in the past.

Ken, when you say that scrimmages are closed to the public, does that mean they are closed to the media too? If media is allowed in, do they have parts of the practice they ask you to not write about?

U – it got caught in the filter because you used a word that, when used on this blog, is used largely for the purpose of slinging mud and attempting to belittle. i’m sure you can come up with something more clever or insightful than what you wrote.

“BLT- big talk from a school still on probation for lying!! Back at ya, Cool Breeze!”

You never answered the question. Anyway, I’m sure all those paid players, hookers, yachts, etc. are equal to Tech’s “supposed” infractions.
Do you even know what Tech’s infraction were? Do you know the background of the “supposed” lying?
My guess is you do not know because if you did (and if you had an ounce of decency you’d know that Tech was railroaded).

Now what happened at Miami and UNC is completely out of control. This will be a test for the NCAA. They hammered Tech for some minor stuff compared to what has happened at Miami and UNC.

If those schools get off light because they self reported (LOL) then I’d suggest every CFB team start self reporting all sorts of sleazy activity. That seems to be a bigger deal to them than the actual activites.

Remember: google is your friend…

Heck, if it was basically “legal” to pay players, Tech and UGA would have top 5 or 10 teams every year. My guess is so would all the Florida schools.

All that would be needed is to say “Hey NCAA, this is a continuing self report. We will pay the best players in the state to go to our schools.” Anything could be added at a whim. It’s all about the “self-reporting”. If you have that you have “Institutional Control”. RIGHT NCAA!

Bigger question: Who is responsible for investigating the NCAA?

U…. I think the probation came from not cooperating, not even a proven violation, I don’t recall the lying. I think there certainly is plenty of justification to point fingers at the U without hypocrisy
