Who’s involved: Junior Robbie Godhigh, sophomores B.J. Bostic, Synjyn Days, Deon Hill, Tony Zenon, freshman Broderick Snoddy.

Who’s starter: Orwin Smith at one A-back spot, the other is undetermined. Godhigh and Hill are in the lead. Roddy Jones was a four-year starter.

What coach Paul Johnson says: Godhigh and Hill “were a little bit ahead (after spring practice), so if we had to start tomorrow, [Smith and Godhigh] would probably start.”

What Orwn Smith says: “You have to be able to run and block. Obviously you are going to be better at one or the other but, in our offense, we can check the play at any given time. You can’t just be a one-element guy. The A-backs are just athletes. We are the guys setting the edge to block and we are running routes. We do it all.”

Comment: Three or four players will likely rotate, so starting doesn’t carry as much meaning as other positions. There’s a lot of playmaking speed in this group, notably Snoddy, who won the state Class …

Practice notes from Wednesday.

1. Georgia Tech went through its first double-practice day Wednesday. Apparently, it was O.K.

Backup nose tackle Shawn Green “practiced [Wednesday]. He did O.K.,” coach Paul Johnson said.

Inside linebacker Jabari Hunt-Days, who had missed time with a muscle tweak, “was out there. He was O.K.,” Johnson said. “Didn’t notice him.”

Backup quarterback Vad Lee?

“He’s done O.K.,” Johnson said.

The team worked in full pads in the morning and shoulder pads in the afternoon, the latter of which was conducted in temperatures exceeding 90 degrees.

“Both sides did well at times, which is the way it needs to be if you’re going to be any good,” Johnson said. “There were some guys who competed. When they compete, that’s always good. I think they tried to push through it.”

2. Special-teams coordinator David Walkosky will use discretion in selecting true freshmen to play on special teams. He doesn’t intend to burn a redshirt on a …

Greetings-

Some leftover notes from Monday and Tuesday’s media availability (some of which may resurface in today’s practice notes):

1. Special-teams coordinator David Walkosky isn’t in a hurry to name starters at the specialist spots, just the top two players on the depth chart.

“We’ll do that probably this week,” he said. “Now we get pads on and (start) doing some live reps. You’ve got to narrow it down to a semi-travel squad. That’s what we’re going to get to. I don’t care about the starters.”

For kicker, punter and long snapper, that doesn’t figure to be a major undertaking. Kickers Justin Moore and David Scully are at the top of the kicking depth chart, with Ryan Rodwell and Sean Poole at punter and Sean Tobin and Tyler Morgan at long snapper. The returners are less clear, it would appear.

As I mentioned, Walkosky mentioned Jemea Thomas, Jamal Golden, Tony Zenon and Anthony Autry as possibilities.
