Who’s involved: Junior Tyler Kidney and sophomore Morgan Bailey.
Who’s starter: Ray Beno at left tackle. Bailey and Kidney are competing at right tackle, with Bailey in the lead.
What coach Paul Johnson says: “Morgan Bailey would be the starter right now, he and Ray Beno. … We always knew [Bailey] was a pretty good player if he could stay out there.”
Comment: Kidney, a former walk-on, started six games last season in a three-tackle rotation with Beno and former Yellow Jacket Phil Smith, who transferred to Central Florida. As noted by Johnson, Bailey has had difficulty staying on the practice field because of injuries. However, he stayed healthy and impressed in the spring and has to this point outplayed Kidney. The decision isn’t final, and upcoming scrimmages will undoubtedly be important. Further, coaches may go with a rotation as they did last season. But the arc of Bailey’s Tech career continues to rise.
