Finch named to Rimington Trophy watch list

Georgia Tech center Jay Finch was named to the preseason watch list for the Rimington Trophy, given to the nation’s outstanding center. Finch started 12 games last year in his first season as a starter, helping the Yellow Jackets lead the ACC in rushing offense, total offense and scoring offense.

Finch is one of five ACC players and 51 players nationally to make the list.

He’s very good. He’ll be even better this season with a cohesive O-line that helps him out.

Looking forward to seeing an experienced O-line, a new S&C program, and an emphasis on special teams be unleased on VPISU on Labor Day. Go Jackets! Show the voters what you have this season, Jay Finch.

O-Line stacked high, wide, and fast.

It’s kind of dumb how they name 51 Centers to the list. That is almost half of starting centers in D1. Don’t you think they could pick the right one out of 20-25? or is this a tough position to preseason pick?

NCJacket – I did think it’s a pretty high number. if i had to guess, to some degree it’s a publicity ploy. the more players on the watch list, the more papers, websites, etc. that write about it. the idea of a watch list itself seems pretty P.R.-driven. the eventual winner doesn’t have to be on the list to start with. maybe originally, watch lists were put out as a guide for voters. but 51 is indeed a lot.

…right on – Unfortunately, and he is a nice kid and probably a good student, Jay is NOT a very good player worthy of this type of award.

No disrespect intended, but come on, do you really think a good chop blocker is in the same mold as a steamroller like those Big 10 guys – and no UGA guy is much of a steamroller either – they are just big and fat and out of shape by the end of the game – I will give Jay that he is not spent at the end of games like UGA blubberballs that underachieve – on the contrary, Jay probably gets what he is given, it’s just that he was not given much, athletically speaking…

inyoface50…I have to think you are Jay himself. This troll knows nothing about you or the fact that you have been timed at 4.6 in the 40. You are quite the athlete indeed

Thanks Ken. That’s a very good point about it being a publicity ploy. And the troll that responded to me took my words out of context. I’m confident that if the list was 20-25 Finch would still be on it.

Georgia linemen big and fat, and getting drafted to play in the NFL. 1 tech lineman drafted since PJ arrived, and he was a Gailey recruit. Uzzi should break the streak in 2013.

UGA owes this punk a little something after the cheap shot he put on DeAngelo Tyson last year. Karma will get this clown. No way Finch deserves or gets the Rimington Trophy.

A guy gets a tiny, little honor, and you morons have to be negative about it. I’m sure you’ve all graduated from GT, and have been named to the Rimingto watch list…….

Jay Finch came out of Kennesaw Mtn HS at 255Lb, he has worked his rear end off and is now at 290lbs one of the top centers in college football. His work ethic and attention to details is evident in every down he plays. To his critics, you known nothing of this fine young man who it unquestionably a leader and the epitome of what a student athlete should be. It you want to be critical of a player like this what would say of others who have had a chance to play at the D1 level and, for whatever reason, have thrown it away. Grow up for goodness sakes!

Congratulations Jay and I look forward to seeing you lead the way this year!

Congrats to Mr. Finch for getting noticed and hard work paying off. Look to see him and his linemates deliver a lotta “pancakes” on the field this season. Should be a good one….

Nice try big gt fan but…..FAIL. Uzzi committed just before NSD in 2008. CPJ had already taken the reigns. While Chan had most likely started the courtship…CPJ closed the deal.

thank you all for the support! it means more to me then i can possible hope to express in this comment box, and its an honor to even be mention in the same sentence as the Rimington. Further more i would like to state if it pleases the court, that I am not a cheap shot! and i was doing nothing more then what i have been coached to do and play from snap to whistle, and although it would be easy for the untrained eye to believe what i did was illegal but i have watch the film (more times then i can hope to recall) and what i did was completely legal and i am sorry he got hurt because from one athlete who played the rest of the season on a bad wheel from the Mia game on (which is one 100%now thank the lord), i wish that on no one UGA player or not…. But never the less everyone have a Blessed day!

High Tech, I got no inside knowledge. But, I hope & think they will get playing time this season, If Kallon & Gotsis? (the Aussie) are everything they are cracked up to be, I don’t see how the coaches can not play them. For a kid to have 13 scholarship offers before he played a down of game time football, someone please tell me how you keep him off the field. As for Gotsis, from what I have seen & read, he is much the same–some guys are naturals & I think I have some of them on video and they are signed or committed to GT. Kallon–Gotsis–Devine–Hall–these guys looked like they were born knowing how to play their positions. I can hardly wait for the 1st game. I get more anxious every day!!
