Georgia Tech takes ACC baseball title
It wasn’t quite worst to first, but you could call it eight to great.
In a season in which it was frittered with injuries and a berth in the eight-team ACC baseball tournament was anything but a given, the Georgia Tech baseball team capped an unlikely run to its eighth ACC championship with an 8-5 defeat of Miami Sunday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C. They became the first No. 8 seed to win the tournament.
The Jackets, who earned the eighth and lowest seed in the tournament with a win over the same Hurricanes on the final day of the regular season, continued their pummeling of ACC pitching. Tech cranked out 15 hits, including base hits from five of the first six hitters to go to the plate in the first inning (the sixth was a walk). The Jackets took a 4-0 lead in the first half of the inning and led the entire way.
Josh Heddinger, Jarrett Didtrick and Zane Evans held off the Hurricanes, limiting them to five hits, all singles. Evans also went 2-for-6 with 3 RBI. Tech hit .331 over the four games in the tournament, which began with a Wednesday win over Florida State, the top seed and the top-ranked team in the country. Jake Davies, who hit four home runs in the first three games, went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI.
The championship is the fourth for coach Danny Hall and first since 2005. Tech was just the third No. 8 seed to reach the final in ACC tournament history.
The Jackets, who were on the NCAA tournament bubble prior to the tournament, have removed all doubt by earning the ACC’s automatic bid. They will learn where they’ll begin NCAA play Monday at noon. The selection show will be broadcast on ESPNU.

Great spring for GT sports. Now let’s carry this over to the fall and winter. We do have an excellent athletic program regardless of what DAWG fans think and our athletes get a great education with a respectable job waiting for them when the graduate.

Fantastic job by the Jackets! I’m not a big fan of Coach Hall due to the fact the teams never seem to win when they probably should. Lot’s of fundamentals seem to be lacking; with that said, I would love to be wrong.
Earlier this season I noted that usually TECH starts out strong with a high ranking, but they start to sputter toward the end of the season, but this year has not been that way. Sure would love to see the opposite happen and watch the Jackets end strong.
Did the jackets ever trail during the ACC Championship? Also, as for leaving the ACC, there are four teams in the conferece based in NC yet everything is slanted to favor those teams. (Lot’s of examples exist, take where this year’s baseball tournament was held) If all of the other teams can’t stop it from being a NC conference then I want TECH to get out!
Again, what a great four game series. Keep it going team!!!

Congratulations Baseball Jackets! ACC Champs! It is about time more folks realized, what many have known all along, the ACC is about the best fit student/athlete wise for all the universities who currently belong in the ACC as well the two new members—Syracuse and Pittsburgh. All the schools are strong academically and the ACC overall (including all the competitive sports for both men and women) is solid. Amazing how many of the Tech athletes go on to do great things in Major League Baseball, the NBA, the NFL, the PGA and ultimately the game of life. Go Jackets and go ACC

What a run! Rarely do we see a team go on a tear like these Jackets have!
And no question Jake Davies is the Man but this was a total team effort. Sam Dove at 3rd base made some of the best plays I’ve ever seen in college ball.
Congratulations to Coach Hall, the Yellow Jacket players, coaches and staff and their families. Baseball is such a grind – long season, tons of games. Y’all go celebrate!

@ BLT……after I thought about it, I realized that “Todd” is the name the fake Supersize has been using as his BF’s name. Then last night he said he was going on a date with some girl name Katie, or something like that. He is really one sick puppy to post stupid stuff like that and think that people actually believe him. I can’t figure out if he is just an immature little child or a seriously disturbed individual. Great job by the Jackets. By the way, who the hell do FSU and Climpson think they are? GT has outplayed both of them, overall, for the last four years. (Remember that football game last fall?) And I was at the doak last time we played (and beat) the Foosers. Oh, well, if they think they can do better in another conference……..good riddance!
