Weseman ACC player of the year again
Georgia Tech third baseman Kelsi Weseman was named the ACC softball player of the year for the second year in a row Thursday, becoming just the third player in league history to earn the honor in consecutive seasons.
Going into the ACC tournament, Weseman was tied for the league lead in home runs and ranked first in league games in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs and home runs. She also earned her fourth first-team All-ACC designation.
Joining Weseman on the first team was pitcher Hope Rush, whose 22 regular-season wins tied for fourth in the ACC. She won 10 games by shutout. Designated player Kate Kuzma made the second team with a .366 batting average in league play.
Tech beat Virginia in its tournament quarterfinal 6-4 Thursday and will play the Florida State-N.C. State winner Friday in the semifinals in Chapel Hill.
It’s a considerable achievement for Weseman, who missed two weeks earlier this season with mononucleosis and another after colliding with a teammate.
