O’Reilly transfer ‘not done deal’
The father of Pope grad and now former Auburn guard Thomas O’Reilly said Tuesday that a transfer to Georgia Tech is “not a done deal yet. We think it’s an option, but it’s not a done deal at this point.” Shaun O’Reilly said that there has been conversation between his son and Tech since he decided to transfer, but asserted that no decision had been made.
“We’ve talked,” he said. “We know the school very well from when he was recruited as a [high-school prospect]. It’s a great school and it has a ton to offer.”
During his high school recruitment, Tech was the first school to offer O’Reilly, listed in his Auburn bio at 6-foot-3, 325 pounds, and he made multiple visits to the school during his recruitment.
O’Reilly redshirted this past season and, assuming he transfers to another FBS-level school, will have to sit out another year and would have three years of eligibility. A highly-regarded high school prospect, ESPN ranked him the No. 145 player nationally in the class of 2011 and Rivals named him the No. 19 offensive guard.
Shaun O’Reilly said the decision to transfer was based on opportunities to play and the Tigers’ scheme change, as well as academics. Coach Gene Chizik hired Scot Loeffler to replace Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator in January after Malzahn left to become head coach at Arkansas State.

FL Jacket, I would like to see Vad sooner than later. He’s a true passer so yes some more passes. Tech has lined up in a shotgun before.
I’m glad he hired a ST coach and I hope the focus is on aggressive (some would say risky) play. Kicking the ball into the endzone or close to it would help a great deal. I’ll never understand last year with the kickoffs and punting.
Beamer will be ready for Tech.

I call an individual a “boot licking toadY”, toadies is plural, an apt description for most of you guys.
You criticize every little thing someone posts, but all you guys do is sit around and act as if CPJ is doing everything perfectly while many GT Fans know that is not the case.
Many of you guys won’t even admit that CPJ has put together a poor Coaching Staff that does not teach and develop well.
An Example, S. Hill was still catching the ball against his body into his 3rd yr. playing for CPJ, conversely UGA’s true FRESHMEN WRs showed they were “hands catchers” from the moment they stepped on the field.
Are their WRs “smarter” than ours and able to learn faster?
People that follow CFB can see things like that and the poor STs, the poor play by DLs, the poor play by LBs when they have to cover TEs & RBs in pass coverage, the poor passing mechanics by all of GT’s QBs under CPJ, and intelligent CFB Fans have to wonder is CPJ doing a good job teaching & developing good FB fundamentals.
You guys see none of that and instead look at lopsided scores vs. crappy opponents instead of GT only scoring in the low 20s vs. “real competition”.
You guys put forth a lot of mis-direction in a concerted effort to defend CPJ’s poor decisions and lack of execution as a HC WRT key areas of running a BCS-level CFB program.
Part of being a BCS level HC is making proper staffing decisions.
Name one GT asst. Coach that is considered an “ace recruiter” that can go toe-to-toe with the big boys in the SEC & ACC that we have to go up against here in Ga. for the State’s best Recruits?
CPJ put together a D-1AA/Service Academy Coaching staff because that is what he was familiar with instead of a coaching staff that would elevate GT FB.
You guys have to be blind to not see how poorly coached and how poorly run GT’s FB is, our only saving grace is that we play in the ACC and that the ACC has been very down during CPJ’s tenure.
If we were in a middle tier BCS conference instead of a lower tier BCS conference, there’s a good chance that we would have had one winning season, one .500 season and two losing seasons under CPJ.
Don’t let the weak ACC and our weak OOC schedule fool you into thinking that CPJ is a better coach than he really is.

I hear you. I’d love to see Vad Lee too, but I’d prefer to see him take his lumps in Spring and Summer practice…not in games that may jeopardize a season. He’s still turnover prone. But I think he’ll be the #2 QB after summer and get some mop-up time. I honestly see Synjyn Days being moved into the A-Back rotation and serving as the #3 QB to save Andrews and Thomas from burning a year of eligibility.
As for the Special Teams. We need to offer a Scholarship and sign Harrison Butker from Westminster…even if just for the leg that can reach the endzone. I see Rodwell getting the Punting job and not letting it go. We should be getting mad yardage from our return units with guys like Tony Zenon and Deon Hill returning kicks. Hopefully it gets better.
Beamer’s got problems on the offensive side of the ball…replacing David Wilson, Danny Coale, and several other OL and position players. I’m sure he didn’t want a big matchup to start the season either…

Mike Mayock from NFL Network called Stephen Hill a “natural hands catcher” therefore the drops he had in college are correctable.

Charles Kelly. He got Justin Thomas to flip to GT even though Oregon and FSU were about to offer him once he de-committed from Alabama.

CPJ has a 4-4 record against the SEC. While that’s not great, it’s certainly what I would label as “competitive”. Certainly better than the Vandy’s and MSU’s…not quite where the UGA’s and LSU’s are. But of course, that was accomplished with recruiting budgets and academic standards far less amenable than either of those SEC schools (save Vandy).
What other parts of your narrative would you like to bring and have us completely and logically refute and destroy??
