O’Reilly transfer ‘not done deal’

The father of Pope grad and now former Auburn guard Thomas O’Reilly said Tuesday that a transfer to Georgia Tech is “not a done deal yet. We think it’s an option, but it’s not a done deal at this point.” Shaun O’Reilly said that there has been conversation between his son and Tech since he decided to transfer, but asserted that no decision had been made.

“We’ve talked,” he said. “We know the school very well from when he was recruited as a [high-school prospect]. It’s a great school and it has a ton to offer.”

During his high school recruitment, Tech was the first school to offer O’Reilly, listed in his Auburn bio at 6-foot-3, 325 pounds, and he made multiple visits to the school during his recruitment.

O’Reilly redshirted this past season and, assuming he transfers to another FBS-level school, will have to sit out another year and would have three years of eligibility. A highly-regarded high school prospect, ESPN ranked him the No. 145 player nationally in the class of 2011 and Rivals named him the No. 19 offensive guard.

Shaun O’Reilly said the decision to transfer was based on opportunities to play and the Tigers’ scheme change, as well as academics. Coach Gene Chizik hired Scot Loeffler to replace Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator in January after Malzahn left to become head coach at Arkansas State.

There’s at least a flimsy reason for each one of the staff appointments. Ghost, by virtue of his name, is team chaplain, as in Holy Ghost. Also, he is the most conflicted troll. He says he wants CPJ signed to a lifetime contract, but then spends a good deal of time trying to convince us how awful he is. Ghost also has the father/son dynamic going on. Because his dad taped ankles, ghost has greater insight into CFB than the rest of us. We should follow his divine guidance, but we reject his message. I hope I didn’t crucify him too badly.

Anyway, that was my thought process. If my fellow boot licking toadies disagree, I will listen.

Jim Donnan won National championships at Marshall , but had experience as offensive coordinator at Oklahoma under Switzer. Spurrier also was ahead coach in USFL . Johnsons never had to recruit and it show in his recruiting for tech. I can look at the roster he inherited had some very good talent and the roster he’s built doesn’t compare. He’s tried to sign better players , but they aren’t buying into the system. My Dad coached college football (mostly in the SEC)with some very great coaches, and he always said that recruiting was the lifeblood of a program, Pjs being out recruited by just about everyone and honestly he’s a good /average coach with a very average to below average staff. He recruits like a 1aa school.

HT…

Ghost sure loves that narrative doesn’t he? I bet he worships at the altar of Vince Dooley and Erk Russell. Well, not exactly. Because if he did, he’d realize that CPJ was a prized assistant to Erk Russell.

I’m sure ghost would love to explain how is it that CPJ takes every team he’s ever been a HC for to the best W/L record in the Modern Era for each school (Georgia Southern, Navy, Georgia Tech).

I would love for ghost to explain why the list of kids on NSD is more important than the W/L record of that class 2-3 years down the road. If that were the case, he should be more critical of Mark Richt than he ever should be a CPJ.

Gotta love the narrative though…it’s easy for dumb people to comprehend and make themselves feel better.

HighTech, I don’t remember Ghost ever calling people names. I know he does not like CPJ. That’s fine. I’m not sure why he wants to convince people of how “bad” CPJ is since he’s a bulldog fan. Seems like he would want Tech to have a terrible coach. I have my opinions about CPJ and some Tech people would not agree. I do believe he’s a good coach and will do good things for Tech (he already does and has… we just don’t read about them). Personally, I hope all the naysayers get it out early so this season will be much sweeter.
