Busy week for Roddy Jones

An interesting week for former Georgia Tech A-back Roddy Jones. Wednesday night, he was at the Fox Theatre as a finalist for the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup. Thursday morning, he’ll be a guest host on 790 the Zone’s Barnhart & Durham show. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, he plans to be in WREK’s broadcast booth for the Georgia Tech baseball team’s games at Russ Chandler Stadium. He’s also got his MBA classes. And then he’s hoping to get a phone call from one of 32 NFL teams telling him they want his services.

“I’m excited about what this weekend’s going to hold for me,” Jones said prior to Wednesday’s awards ceremony.

To answer the first question, Jones did not win the award, created to honor a sports professional and a student-athlete for their character, leadership on and off the field and contribution to sport and society. The winner was Aleca Hughes, a former Yale ice hockey player who started a foundation to honor a teammate who had died from leukemia.

“This is probably at the top,” Jones said, referring to the list of honors he has received. “It’s a national award named after Coach John Wooden, which is an honor in itself. Coach (Vince) Dooley being here (as chair of the selection committee) and all the different finalists from different places, it’s definitely an honor.”

Former Tennessee coach Pat Summitt was also on hand to receive the professional Wooden Citizenship Cup. Coach Paul Johnson, A-backs coach Lamar Owens and team chaplain Derrick Moore joined Jones’ family in support of him.

As for the draft, Jones said he had received phone calls from a few teams to confirm his health and to make sure they had the right phone number for the draft weekend, a good sign.

“Even if they’re just calling to get my cell phone number, it means they want it,” he said.

Jones’ likely route to the NFL is as an undrafted free agent, a path many Tech players have taken to reach the league. That would most likely happen Saturday afternoon after the seven rounds of the draft conclude.

Somewhere WnE “bumped” into CPJ @ some type of Tech function & Johnson blew him off(not literally).
How else can the hatred be explained!!

OK Bama guy, imagine if your school had a bunch of fans like these with such LOW STANDARDS for Bama FB?

Imagine what your posts would sound like if you HC was supposed to be an Offensive Genius and yet was 1-11 vs. Top-50 Defenses over the last 2 seasons.

What kind of comments would you be making if Bama was

1-3 Auburn

1-3 vs. LSU

1-3 vs . Arky

0-4 in Bowl Games

In the last 4 years.

After all that Crim-75, I’m willing to bet that a lot of your posts would read exactly like my posts read.

UOAD, back in the 50s and even into the early 60s, Tech sent kids like that (the ones who didn’t have the grades initially) to “prep schools” like Baylor and McCallie (sp?). I doubt that many kids would want to go that route anymore, but Tech has done both that and accept JUCO’s in the past.

@ WnE…..I would bet good money that no Bama fan would express his grievances on a PUBLIC forum that would be read by Auburn and LSU fans. If he did, I’m sure some good man would take him out in the woods and off his azzz (no offense meant, 75). Consider yourself lucky here that you can get away with saying the crap that you say and only be called on it in the same public forum.

Hell, it would be hard for ANY son to go to a school where his father played. He would have a standard (whether good or bad) that he would be held to before he even arrived on campus. And another one…..Vince’s son didn’t go to UGA either. Was that such an embarrassing thing?

Terrence “Mount” Cody is not what College Football is all about??
He’s not a great American story??
______________

I have no problem with JUCOs and I never have.

The rest of these guys here that are acting like they are your “friend” have made many derogatory towards JUCOs that get Recruited by other schools mainly SEC Schools and mainly Bama.

These Tech putzes are not your firends, they merely act like they are so that they can live vicariously through you because Bama’s recent success is one way to goad UGA fans, and since CPJ cannot beat uga, they act as if they are Bama fans.

Real GT fans hate Bama damn near as much was we hate uga!

Bear Bryant was the cheating-est scumbag to ever walk a college sideline and most of the NCAA rules are due to his shenanigans while he was at Bama, every time Bryant came up with a new way to cheat the NCAA had to add another chapter to their rules book, that’s WHY that book is damn thick.

That’s how real GT fans feel about Bama!

Fl Jacket — I saw waaaaaayyy too many games lost during the Shula yrs that should not have been lost.
Bama’s fringe fan-base was to blame for Dubose.
We just had to have a BAMA man. We coulda had Beamer or Butch Davis, instead We chose DuBose b/c Tu-freakin-lane was showing interest in him!!
Francionne had 2 respectable yrs, 1 really good year.

____________

Different situation!

Jenning’s father is not indifferent to UGa.

UGA is only giving out ONE QB scholly for this class and the kid from Camden co. committed a LONG TIME AGO.

Jennings, the son said he understood that UGA was only taking one QB, his situation is different because Jennings’ father never told CMR, “I want my son to go somewhere other than UGA because I want him to have well rounded college experience”.

Carl Lawson Sr. told CPJ that to his face.

I guess if he subscribes to the mantra never to say anything at all if you don’t have anything good to say, which means that he doesn’t have anything good to say about Roddy. Except, of course, since he says bad things ALL THE TIME about Johnson and everybody else at Tech, that would mean that he is really just a chicken-sh!t azzhole. But then, I think we all already knew that. He has just verified it once again.
