Greetings
Some notes from post-practice interviews Wednesday.
1. Quarterback Synjyn Days may not play Friday night in the spring scrimmage. Days injured his left wrist on the final play of practice Wednesday. Days and fellow backup Vad Lee had been receiving most of the practice reps and were slated to get most of them in the scrimmage.
Coach Paul Johnson was not specific regarding how Days’ snaps will be allocated if he can’t play. It could be more for Tevin Washington or for early enrollee Dennis Andrews or walk-on transfer Tim Byerly, or all three, as well as walk-on Darryl Dickey.
“As far as the game goes, it’s not a concern as much as it is he’s made a lot of progress this spring,” Johnson said. “You’d like to see him have a chance to play.”
2. Guard Shaquille Mason may not play either with an undisclosed injury. It was hoped he would return for Wednesday’s practice, but he didn’t participate. That would leave the offensive line with 10 available bodies for Friday, including walk-ons. If someone gets hurt Friday, the likely option would be to flip-flop players from team to team.
3. Johnson on inside linebacker Jabari Hunt-Days: “I think he’s had a good camp, a good spring. I think he’s improved, I think he’s worked hard. He’s doing some good things.”
On the likelihood he’ll see playing time in the fall: “Oh, yeah, definitely. He’s going to have to. He’s going to play.”
4. Asked if any A-backs had made progress closing the gap with Robert Godhigh, who has been the top performing A-back in the spring with Orwin Smith out, Johnson said “I think Deon Hill’s done some good things.”
Johnson also mentioned Tony Zenon and B.J. Bostic but said there’s not a lot of separation.
5. Wide receiver Jeremy Moore has pushed his way into the first group, splitting reps with Jeff Greene and Chris Jackson.
“He’s probably been the most consistent, probably had the least amount of efforts and played hard,” Johnson said. “He’s made some catches. He’s done some good things, made some plays.”
Efforts are demerits for not giving full effort on a play.
“I think you’ve got Jeff and Darren (Waller) and Chris and Jeremy competing and we’ll see how it comes out,” Johnson said. “They’ve all got to learn to play harder.”
6. The most improved player on defense? Johnson said several players have improved and added that “(defensive end) Anthony Williams has caught my eye.”
7. Asked the same question, Washington said named outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu, inside linebacker Quayshawn Nealy, nose tackle T.J. Barnes and also the secondary.
“I think those guys are a lot hungrier this year, more physical with our receivers,” he said. “Those guys come out and just compete every day, try to make plays on the ball, put the defense in a position where they feel like nobody can come out and throw on them.”
“Jeremiah, he’s always 100 miles an hour,” Washington said. “Sometimes you want to tell him to slow down. … He’s got a high motor. He’s always going.”
Washington said Barnes’ focus and attention to detail have improved.
“As far as with the defensive line, if they’ve got a stunt on, he’s making sure he’s in the right gap, making sure he’s doing his job, just trying to take a lot of personal responsibility for what he has to do.”
8. In case you weren’t aware, the spring game is Friday at 7:45 p.m. Free to the public. Parking information here.
Thanks for reading. I’ll have another post up later this morning.
Hope you all can make it out to the spring game Friday night.

Ken, do you know whether Johnson has the power to deliver a stiffer penalty than the one issued? Or is that something the school removed from him to eliminate a conflict of interest?

YIKES @ Braun’s broken leg. Thanks, Ken.
While you’re still reading this, can you PLEASE get whoever is responsible for the filters to allow the correct spelling of the word “yestahday”? It’s a pain to type something out with the correct spelling of that word somewhere in it and then have it blocked and have to type it all over again.

Ken…
I think a lot of us feel that this is a very lax punishment for what is a serious offense…is it possible that the length of suspension gets adjusted later? Or is this the protocol?

SUPER I will change my BET after the Win against Va Tech. If we lose that game it will be a hard Roe to Hoe to get to 14 games. I know the ODDS of a 14 game season with 12 teams in the league. 100% teams will play 12 games and only 2 will get a shot at 14 games. That is a 14% chance. I will bet $10,000 on those odds.

This blog demonstrates just how irrevelent Georgia Tech is and why they get so little coverage in the A J C blogs. 9 pages of comments made up of mainly 4-5 posters. I’m not knocking you guys so don’t take it personally, but if Tech can’t find more than a handful of folks to comment on an article than the lack of Tech coverage is understandable. Sad but true

I said Mark Richt craps bigger than Paul Johnson. He does. Its a line from Jack Palance in City Slickers. Maybe if you all weren’t such lame dorks you would know that. At any rate, this was in response to a Techie claiming that Paul Johnson is a more intense coach than Mark Richt. I took major issue with this for a coupe of reasons. Number one, Paul Johnson is only intense on his radio call in shows when he can run his mouth with impunity. I also pointed out that Paul Johnson never played football at the collegiate level, while Mark Richt started a few games at a big time football program. Oh, and then there’s that little matter of how Paul Johnson has only managed to beat Mark Richt once on that place we like to call a football field. More intense? Sure thing Techies. Whatever you say.
Any more questions?

I WANT TECH to play 14 games. If I made a Bet in VEGAS right for TECH to play 14 games I am SORRY but I go on the side that Tech has 14% chance to do that I will bet against it. I LOVE OUR TEAM. Most of you know that, but betting has NOTHING to do with LOVE but the ODDS.
Do I think TECH can beat UGa? Hell yes will I do a STRAIGHT UP Bet? Hell NO I want at least 2.5-3.5 points for TECH. I am CRAZY but I ain’t STUPID.
I will say there isn’t a Single QB I would take form UGa and Only one RB. I think Gurley would BLOW the f..king ACC world Up running in our Offense.

A) Why does this matter when discussing football coaches? and
B) Backing up Jim Kelly at a school BEFORE they ever became a big-time football program is considered playing for a big-time football program?

dwagfan, regarding intensity—–surely you jest. Just take a look at the video of the two coaches on their respective sidelines during the 2008 Tech – UGA game, and tell me who is more intense. CPJ is jumping up and down along with his players, screaming and hollering at what’s happening there. CMR has his players huddled around him in what seriously looked like a prayer meeting. That one shot was all over the TV networks and all over the web. I can’t argue with you about who played college football or who has the better record, but you are totally wrong about intensity.
