Living off the rep of the SEC much, heeldawg? I noticed that Georgia had just as many players invited as Tech did. Congratulations to Messrs. Hill and Glenn. Hill’s work ethic (at least after he left the Flats) will help him greatly. Glenn’s versatility, size like an LT and moves like a guard, will help him much. Also, Glenn has shown he is tough and willing to play through nagging injuries. Good luck to both guys on draft day.

Wrecker, thank you for the “high road” comments. heeldawg, it IS worth noting that Alabama has 5, LSU has 3, and South Carolina has 2. No wonder Alabama (4 of 5 on defense) rolled over teams so effectively. The honorable mention, however, goes to Baylor with 2 slots.

Also worth noting is that Coach Johnson is correct. The quality of the player determines his path not the college system that he plays in.

Hill has worked hard the last couple of years. He will drop some but remember that Georgia Tech receivers who play for Johnson do not play unless they can block. That will separate him from most other NFL receiver hopefuls in this year’s draft class.

Awesome for Hill! I tell you what if I was a H.S. WR’s I would strongly consider GT. Like Calvin and Bay-Bay and Cone, GT WR’s know how to go up and get a not so perfect thrown pass and we know they can block! On the NFL NETWORK they were saying GT kids have talent for those willing to take a close look. The Pro’s are seeing this. UGA had the highly recruited WR Malcolm Brown out of Memphis that recruiting year and Auburn had the famed Malzhan throwing the ball to all those 4 Stars and they are not even on the NFL radar. Awesome for Hill to be in New York and good for GT we can cancel that you can’t go to the Pro’s if you go to GT Vibe in fact if you can play your chances may be better becaus GT doesn’t have all those 5STARS!

BayBay was 13th nationally in receiving yards in 2009, yeller bug. Is that underutilized? Hill only caught 29 balls (some of that was his fault, some Tevin’s), but 29 YPC was first nationally. Our passing efficiency last year ranked 14th nationally and first nationally in yards per attempt (which preempts the completion percentage).

The passing has not been bad. The better question is what have we left out there and why. It’s only one play, but I remember the interception against Clemson vividly. Stephen Hill was totally uncovered on that play, but Tevin tried to guide the ball to Orwin across the middle. If he zips it, it’s a catch. If he throws to Hill, it’s a TD. That’s where the analysis needs to be.

I hope not, but Hill (and maybe Randle) may be the only ones of that group who won’t get drafted in the 1st Round, depending on any runs on OL and CB. Stephen’s rawness may get him picked at the top of the 2nd (still very good for his inexperience), but the QB-protecting big uglies always get a strong look in the 1st Round and 3 CBs may become the norm in new NFL defenses.

That’s an interesting list of players especially when you look at it by position. After 6 DL’s, the next most for any position is 5 WR’s. I’m surprised that there would be 5 WR’s taken in the first round, but you never know. Congrats to Steven for even being invited. That is a huge accomplishment.

Tech is a top 5 rushing team nationally. A few tweaks to our passing game will yield huge results. Like a subtle adjustment to a golf swing—you can go from spraying balls all over the place to hittin’em down the middle. I think our air attack is close. If we get our pass completion % up 10 points from 47 to 57%—then we’ll be averaging close to 500 yds of offense every game. Our YPC will drop, but who cares about that–we’ll be moving the chains all game long. Maybe keep TW and Days as run 1st pass 2nd QBs and train Lee to be pass 1st/run 2nd. The goal is to be equally competent in both, but have them start with one and grow toward the other. Implement more high % pass plays–e.g. throw short curl routes to A-backs or whatever. We have the long ball threat and opposing teams respect that–I think improving our short passing game–even just a little will produce the biggest dividends to our offense as it will improve the running game as well.

The problem is, is that any time any “legit question” is asked about GT FB under CPJ’s leadership, you have the usual crew of BLTs that get very defensive and refuse to answer any question and instead attack good GT fans like you that have legit questions.

In another post not long ago I pointed out that at one time GT & CPJ had these 3 WRs on campus at the same time:

Bey Bey Thomas 6-3 235lbs. 4.38 – forty

Kevin Cone 6-2 210lbs. 4.37 forty (track background 400 meters)

S. Hill 6-4 200lbs 4.36 – forty (track background 25-ft long jumper)

With those 3 guys on the roster at the same time GT still never had any “real passing threat” other than high RISK jump ball passes.

Whenever a poster does like you did above and QUESTIONS WHY CPJ doesn’t get more out of his WR talent while they are still at GT, then the attacks come out.

It seems that GT fans like you and me that want to talk CFB & analyze GT FB are in the minority and the majority would rather name-call and attack rather than seriously answer tough questions that are directed at CPJ’s decision making & use of talent.

Stephen Hill and Justin Blackmon…both 3-star recruits ranked anywhere from 24th to 139th in their respective classes (2008-Blackmon, 2009-Hill).

Back to the CPJ propaganda machine again, for one S. Hill was ranked as a 4* Recruit by at least one of the Recruiting services, so by making it seem like Hill was “just a 3* guy” , then GT fans like you make it seem like he “uber-developed” in to an NFL player by CPJ, which we all know is NOT TRUE.

Also, if Hill & Blackmon are similarly ranked Recruit out of HS as you point out above and Blackmon is SMALLER, SLOWER, and LESS EXPLOSIVE, then please explain WHY Blackmon is expected to go Top-10 and Hill is expected to go 25-32, roughly 15-20 slots LATER than a smaller, slower, less-explosive player at the same position?

This is where CPJ’s system “STEAL MONEY” from the players that he recruits and this is WHY Top Recruits SHUN GT & CPJ.

Had Hill played in Justin Blackmon’s system at OKIE ST, then Hill would be a top-10 or top-5 Draft pick, but by playing for CPJ the smaller, slower WR (Blackmon) is the Top-10 draft guy and Hill, the bigger& faster player is the guy that is projected to go #25-32.

The Recruits that are football insiders KNOW that Hill’s draft projections are based on his SIZE & SPEED and that GT/CPJ had no impact on that, the RECRUITS also know that if they have the “right size & speed” (like Hill), then that combination will YIELD MORE MONEY at other colleges.

The Recruits know that if AJ Green, Julio Jones or Justin Blackmon had played for CPJ then they would have been drafted LATER and therefore gotten less MONEY.

Despite Bey-Bey & Hill that would have been TOP-10 NFL DRAFT PICKS from other colleges with their size/speed combo, despite their successes the Recruits at WR still shun GT & CPJ because they know that what I have written above is true.

The question that my detractors should ask themselves is; WHY does GT still get lowly rated WR recruits with the success of Hill & Bey-Bey in recent years?

It is kind of hard to disagree with me, when the decisions of the Recruits clearly show that they don’t believe that CPJ can get them ready for the NFL.

Does anyone think that Dorial Beckham-Green (sp?) was considering playing for CPJ?

Are these guys peaking at the end of the year and by not having them back for their SR year Tech is not getting the benefit from such talent? Are their stats overrated because they often have just 1-on-1 coverage because the opposing D must focus on the run? Is our below 50% pass competion rate over the last 4 years causing us to have the lack of production in the passing game? Should we track incomplete passes like pitches in baseball—wild pitch or passed ball where we fault the passer (uncatchable pass) or the receiver (dropped ball) to discern the cause for the low completion rate? Is it reasonable to expect a QB who runs and gets hit virtually every play be as accurate as a standard drop back passer? Are our pass routes too difficult—throw more to stationary targets vice crossing and timing routes? We need some answers–for to have two 1st round draft picks at WR yet be as poor in the passing game that we are is not acceptable.

Mr. Stein could you please explain in detail WHY a smaller, slower player (Blackmon) at the same position as S. Hill is ranked so much higher going into the NFL draft?

Could it be that the SYSTEM that Justin Blackmon played in at OKIE ST. allows him to go higher in the NFL draft vs. the system that S.Hill played in at GT despite the fact that Hill is bigger & faster, something that is normally a difference maker to NFL teams that draft players?

Please explain why the smaller, slower Blackmon is ranked so much higher than the bigger , faster Hill?

Is it possible that you don’t want to admit that Hill was HANDICAPPED by CPJ’s system?

Here’s what WnE had to say about Stephen Hill earlier. Good thing he didn’t go to UGA. He would have been the 8th option and would not have developed any better than Orson Charles.

Before you GT fan get too happy with our “steal” of a recruit from Bama, remember that we also stole 4* Recruit Stephen Hill from uga,and then they proceeded to recruit tons of WRs that have proven to be better than S. Hill, if Hill had gone to UGa he’d be the 8th option at WR for them.

Teams like Bama/LSU that lose these types of players and even uga sometimes can jsut shrug it off and keep on doing what they’re doing.

So. Malcolm Mitchell
So. Michael Bennett
So. Chris Conley

And those are just some of the WRs that have made ugag not even miss the 4* Recruit that we stole from them, not to mention Hill can’t catch very well vs. the good teams but is great vs. the crappy D1-AAs that GT plays.

In summary take it all with a grain of salt, sometimes these things don’t play out like you hope they will.

Since then they/uga stole 2 WRs that we WANTED badly, Justin Scott-Wesley and Cris Conley that really could have been difference makers for GT.

From Hill’s constant drops vs. BCS team I’d say that uga got the best of the deal when we “stole” S. Hill from them.

I have BS, MS and PhD degrees from Tech and I had to take a total of two (2) English classes…

…grammar is not stressed at Tech!

I made plenty of extra dough proof-reading foreign national’s research manuscripts and dissertations though! $20/hr for fixing broken English is quite a coup in terms of grad school money.

Hill had 26 catches over GT’s 12 game regular season, do you think that is a good season, do you think that CPJ used him correctly & efficiently?

13 of those catches were in 3 games:

W. Carolina
MTSU
UNC

That leaves 13 catches over 9 games or 1.44 catches per game, are you satisfied that CPJ got so little out of a great physical specimen for most of our season?

Meanwhile at UGA this is what they got out of their young WRs:

Malcolm Mitchell 45 catches for 4 tds and 15 ypc and he missed 3 or 4 games with a hamstring injury

Mike Bennett 32 catches for 5 tds and 10 ypcs

Chris Conley 16 catches for 2 tds and 18 ypc in one-half of a season after his RS was lifted.

Bennett was RS-Fr. while the other 2 were true-Fr.

So CPJ is an offensive genius and CMR is an “idiot” according to many GT fans yet CMR can get more out of T-Fr. & RS-Fr. WRs than our offensive genius can get out of a guy that is a Junior that has the same measurables as a Randy Moss, as a GT FB fan are you happy with use (or lack of use) of talent by CPJ?

8-12 messages had the “@” sign in front when I first started using twitter and didn’t know how to post message or what that “@” sign was for.

I found out later that using that “@” sends message to another person’s “timeline”.

Since then the only time I used the “@” sign was when the goon squad blamed last yrs. UVA. loss on Mid term exams or to defend myself from unwarranted attacks.

I never erased the messages because I didn’t think they were a big deal.

My last message I said I’d check back after 3 years to see what kind of NFL prospects he had at that time.

Next season will be that 3rd year on the college level.

We’ll find out if CPJ can get him to the NFL, since he posted repeated on his old twitter account that he was a passing QB and not “an athlete”.

He was also very critical of GT ’s offense and hinted that CPJ was going to change the Offense for him………….we shall see.

While you guys are talking about twitter message he also said on his twitter page that CPJ introduced him to his personal friend and NFL HC Mike smith of the Falcons which is a clear violation of NCAA rules.

If you guys keep bringing up old tweets in public, those tweets might find their way to the NCAA investigators.

You are right about the guys from the UK and Australia lacking experience playing American HS football. That could be a good thing or a bad thing. Really won’t know until they play. blt, I didn’t even notice the fonder part, Tardits was a good one, but I don’t remember him coming on until late in his sophomore season.I think Gamble is being highly overlooked he could contribute this year.I just question McCollums ability to develop them. I hope Andy Mc can do the job.
With the dawgs no suspensions or defections for lack of playing time so its a good week.As long as the injury bug doesn’t bite in the secondary I think all will be fine.Was able to see some practices this spring and they pass the eye test, my crystal ball broke years ago so I don’t make predictions about Georgia,but they have many of the pieces in place to have a good year.

Lee He STOLE a Squirrel from a Red-tail Hawk at my sisters house. The Hawk was on the ground trying to finish the kill and he chased the hawk. The hawk tried to take off and ZO jumped up and took the squirrel from it’s talons and ate it in 3 or 4 bites.
