Greetings-
A couple notes from Georgia Tech spring practice
1. B-back Charles Perkins and quarterback Synjyn Days took reps at A-back in practice Monday. Perkins has done it previously; it was Days’ first time there. It’s not a permanent move.
“It’s just a question of, when it’s all said and done, we want to try to get our best 11 players on the field,” coach Paul Johnson said.
It’s hard to say what it means, exactly. Quarterbacks and B-backs coach Brian Bohannon noted that B-backs David Sims and Zach Laskey have had practice time at A-back, also. As an example, he said that sometimes he’ll work separately with the quarterbacks and let the B-backs go work with the A-backs under the supervision of assistant coach Lamar Owens.
“It’s a cross-train, so those guys can learn a little bit about both positions,” he said. “We’ll see how it unfolds.”
Both did fine, according to Johnson. He brought up the matter in response to a question about A-backs, first noting that Robert Godhigh, because of his knowledge of the assignments and ability to execute them, is still leading this spring.
“Deon Hill did O.K. Saturday, B.J. Bostic made some plays. Tony Zenon’s still working at it,” he said. “Those are probably the four right now, and then you get Orwin (Smith) back, and we were running some other guys in there. I put Charles in there today some at A-back. I put Synjyn in there at A-back. We had all kinds of guys in there running, so we’ll see how it goes.”
2. Guard Will Jackson is still out with a high ankle sprain. Defensive back Demond Smith returned from an unspecified injury Monday. Cornerback Louis Young is expected to return Wednesday. Tackle Morgan Bailey suffered an injury Monday.
3. Johnson said that Hill and wide receiver Jeremy Moore graded out well from the scrimmage.
“Defensively, I don’t remember anybody being really good,” he said.
Johnson and defensive coordinator Al Groh were critical of the tackling after the scrimmage, an opinion Johnson maintained after watching the video. “It’s bad,” he said.
4. No changes on the depth chart. It sounded like there won’t be any official changes until a new depth chart is released after spring practice ends.
5. Quarterbacks and B-backs coach Brian Bohannon’s evaluation of Days and Vad Lee from the scrimmage: “They did some good things and then they did some things that weren’t so good. … If they can just eliminate the negative plays, the plays that are going to get you beat, (we’ll be in good shape), because they do some really good things and make some really good plays. It’s just eliminating some of the silly stuff.”
Bohannon said that both have been making progress, and that he doesn’t “know how much it’s going to sort out in the spring, anyway. I think they’re both getting better, and that’s encouraging.”
Bohannon observed that Lee has been “starting to click a little better,” particularly since last Friday.
“Today, he actually got the option read right a few times, which he’s been struggling with,” he said. “But he just seems a little more comfortable even throwing the ball.”
Thanks for reading. I’ll have a post up on Wednesday morning from an interview with Sims about running harder into the hole.

George, on the blog about Sims, Gollum even disputed the accuracy of the OFFICIAL Tech website which spells out clearly that either Survey of Calculus or Calculus I is REQUIRED of all students not in the College of Architecture, College of Computing, College of Engineering, or College of Sciences:

My info is from the COLLEGE OF MGMT that has more accurate detail than the general GT website.
It clearly says Survey of Calc. and FINITE MATH!

George, didn’t UGA fire Evans because of the image it projected? Wasn’t he just having an affair too?

“Bosses don’t have a right to ask any question at any time.”
This is untrue, but it also ignores the fact that most bosses can terminate you for any reason at any time, including not answering a question about an accident.

They probably fired him more for being arrested for a DUI than having an affair, Supersize.

And, actually, I’m not even certain they fired him. He may have resigned.

Hilarious. WnE just proved how out of touch from reality he is. Let’s say the AD at Arkansas does ask his direct report, who makes 3 times as much as he does as the highest paid most visible state employee, what happened when he comes to work on monday wearing a neck brace. Said direct report tells the AD that he refuses to answer the question and that he will find out what happened when the public police report is released. That would go over like a ton of bricks.

WnE, can you not even read what you posted. The document you posted the link to CLEARLY shows that in the Fall semester, either Survey of Calculus or Calculus I is required. Second semester work requires either Finite Math or Calculus II. You azzhole, you just defeated your own argument.

Given the option the Academic Staff that advises the FB players will tell them to take the Math 1711 & 1712 the SURVEY of calc. and the FINITE MATH sequence which will probably be easier than calculus classes with a bunch of Engineering & science majors in them.
Engr. & Science majors don’t get credit for the 1711 & 1712 sequence so only BSBA majors (i.e. Athletes) will primarily be in those courses.

And you clearly don’t understand REAL WORLD SteinIE!
An Academic advisor to FB players will put them in the 1711 & 1712 sequence that has no engineering majors in them, and also has easier material than does a calculus course for engineering majors.
Also that same academic advisor to FB PLAYERS will put them in the EARTH SCIENCE course instead of the PHYSICS course.
Just because those options exist, doesn’t mean that they exist for GT’s FB PLAYERS!
Think real world and not theoretical!

WnE, since you obviously didn’t read what you posted, let me spell it out for you here —-
First Year, Fall Semester — English 1101, Math 1712 (Survey of Calculus) OR Math 1501 (Calculus I), History (several choices), Lab Science (several choices)
First Year, Spring Semester — English 1102, Math 1211 (Finite Math) OR Math 1502 (Calculus II), Health Concepts and Strategies), Lab Science (several choices), Computer Science (2 choices)
The last time I checked there are two semesters to every year, and both are required. THEREFORE, At least one course in Calculus is REQUIRED of EVERY student, just like I told you several hours ago. Now YOU have posted the documentation to PROVE it.
So who’s the effin’ douche bag here, WnE??? Hmmmm, I think it would be YOU !!!!

WnE, you just proved my point again. You claimed that FB players took Finite Math INSTEAD of Calculus. They actually take both. Sure Survey of Calculus is not the same as Calculus I, which engineering/science majors take, but IT IS CALCULUS, and they are REQUIRED TO TAKE IT !!! ‘Nuff said !!!

Do you feel all the UGA CB’s are bust and Richt is a bad recruiter?
They are playing Malcolm Mitchell at CB this spring, so based on your logic on Days getting a run at AB, my guess is yes.
What about Nick Saban, would you say he a bad recruiter for moving Sims to Tail Back, does that mean he flopped on recruiting all those RB’s?
