Mock drafts send Tech’s Hill to Houston, S.F.

If the mock drafts are to be believed, former Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill is going to be either a Houston Texan or San Francisco 49er. I don’t put a great deal of credence in mock drafts; it seems like they tend to mirror one anther and rely on conventional wisdom, which isn’t usually how teams actually pick. Plus, one surprise pick at the top or middle of the actual first round can change everything down the stream.

Regardless, what I take from it is that Hill will likely go in the first round or early in the second, which, as I’ve written before, is remarkable considering that his draft evaluation said that he didn’t have the potential to go in the first three rounds.

The logic with Houston is that wide receiver is considered a “need” position. Starters Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter will both turn 31 before the season starts. Johnson has missed 12 games in the past two seasons. The 49ers had needs at wide receiver, but signed Randy Moss and Mario Manningham, and re-signed Ted Ginn Jr. Moss is obviously a question mark and Ginn has 31 catches in the past two seasons with San Francisco, so one could say the need is still present.

An aggregation:

On nfl.com, three have Hill going at No. 26 to Houston, another slots him with San Francisco at No. 30 and one doesn’t have him in the first round.

Sports Illustrated’s Don Banks gives Hill to San Francisco. ESPN’s Mel Kiper also pegs Hill for the 49ers, as does his colleague Todd McShay, who wrote that Hill had “one of the most impressive combine workouts I’ve ever seen from a receiver.” (Both ESPN mock drafts are behind a pay wall.)

Two more mocks on cbssports.com place Hill in San Francisco and out of the first round.

Wes Bunting of the National Football Post also pegs Hill for the Texans, as does John McClain, the NFL writer for the Houston Chronicle.

He’s generally considered the fourth receiver in the draft, after Justin Blackmon from Oklahoma State, Notre Dame’s Michael Floyd and Baylor’s Kendall Wright.

The first round of the draft is April 26.

You ought to know, Paul, that STATS ARE FOR LOSERS and all that matters is the FINAL SCORE.

Comparing Stats doesn’t tell the entire story.

GT played in a crappy ACC and had the 70th toughest schedule in all of CFB and played a Service Academy in their Bowl Game.

UGA.y played a schedule ranked in the mid 30s as far as difficulty and they had to play in the SECheat, had GT played in the SEC we would have very likely had a record of 5-7 or 4-8 and not gone to Bowl, if CMR & UGA.y had GT’s schedule and played in the A.She.She, then CMR probably wouldn’t be on any hot seat at all, maybe a warm seat.

Your Yardage Stats doesn’t take into account that the ACC since CPJ has arrived has been pure crap, while the SECheat has a chance to have its 4th straight MNC, and in most years the SECheat sends TWO teams to BCS Bowls, come thing the ACC has NEVER DONE.

In summary STATS ARE FOR LOSERS, the only stat that is important is the FINAL SCORE!

So you’re actually proud of beating a hapless Vandy team at the time and a Miss St. team before Mullen got there and then LOSING to UGA at home?

You actually want to call that going 2-1 vs. the “mighty SEC”?

re:
WNE , like I said I hate to lose players but with Jordan Jenkins coming Drew and washinton moving to DE, Garrison Smith and Kwame and Jenkins can take a few plays at DE if they need to.Looks like John Taylor may have to play a little DE too. Can’t afford many more hit to the secondary, Corey Moore will be ok to replace Rambo Looks like JH Clemmons will star his career like Ogletree did at Safety.
I don’t like the low numbers but talent is abundant.
____________

You’re right, but the injury bug and the summer months can claim who knows how many more players.

Also depth on the DL is critical so that the LBs can roam and make plays.

People think that I’m a uga fan but I’m not ,I’m a GT alum that is smart enough to realize that the quickest way for GT to elevate their FB is for uga to become a Top-5 Program at the same time.

I have written on GT message board that if both GT & uga could elevate their FB programs like FSU & Miami did during the 80s & 90s, then BOTH schools would benefit because the rivalry would take on a FSU-Miami, Texas-OU or Ohio State-Michigan sort of vibe and the entire nation would be forced to pay attention, this would help GT much more than it would help UGa. since Uga already recruits at a high level, the national attention would bring GT more difference-making recruits than they normally get.

Too many GT fans are blinded by their hatred of uga, to see that a GT fan can want what’s best for GT and want to beat uga without constantly hating uga or wanting uga to go 0-11 leading up to the GT game is beyond their grasp.

I’m thinking about what it will take to get GT to a national level ala, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State, USCw, Bama , etc.

Most of my critics have no dreams of GT FB ever becoming that good, all they know is “CPJ is god” and that’s about it, whereas I choose to analyze what it will take for GT to become an elite CFB program.

5150, Richts recruiting model is working fine, losing 3 players that would not be in the rotation , big deal, they wouldn’t get playing time and want to transfer somewhere where they can. When one leavers a 4 or 5 star player is there to take his place.Deas is leaving because he’ll be playing behind Swann and Moore and with Matthews coming in 2013 and 5 star JH Clemmons # 1 rated player in Georgia last year likely move to safety he’s best off leaving now, Dobbs in the same boat wouldn’t be in the rotation unless injury happens better athletes coming in behind him to take even more time. Hate to see them go , but if they don’t want to compete so what? Richts had 1 bad year out of 11 and recruits at a very high level, most all of the players had offers to play at other major programs.

“BTW that was in 2005 BEFORE Gailey “learned” how to recruit with his recruiting classes in 06 & 07.”

According to Rivals, we took 16 players in 2006. Of the 16, 6 were two star players, nine were three star players, and one garnered four stars (Jamal Evans, who left the program after a year). Oddly, one of the three star players (not an ELITE RECRUIT, according to WnE), was named Demaryius Thomas. What ever happened to him?

HighTech

George Stein…Bay-Bay may have been drafted higher than 22nd overall if it wasn’t for the triple-SLOPtion offense. If you had a son who was an ELITE RECRUIT, would you want him to be a WR in the triple SLOPtion offense where he couldn’t get drafted higher than 22nd overall? You boot licking toadies who worship at the kung fu panda altar don’t understand how much money Coach PeeJay costs these ELITE ATHLETES. lol.
