Burnett’s career appears over

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson did not close the door completely on linebacker Julian Burnett’s playing career. But Burnett’s neck injury, suffered in the Sun Bowl Dec. 31, appears to have ended his career.

“Well, you need to get that statement from Julian,” Johnson said Monday, following Tech’s first spring practice. “If he’s not out here, he’s probably not going to play.”

Burnett will be placed on medical scholarship, meaning he is ineligible to play in the coming season.

“He’s a heck of a competitor and a good football player, but there’s bigger things in life than football,” Johnson said. “You’ve got to be safe.”

Burnett led the Yellow Jackets in tackles for the past two seasons, despite starting only eight games in 2010. He was named to the All-ACC second team last season after finishing fifth in the regular season in tackles.

Johnson said Burnett will remain involved with the team in some fashion.

“He’s disappointed,” Johnson said. “Like anything, you want him to play, but I think he can look at the big picture, and the team doctors and everybody sat down and talked to him and explained the situation and I think he understands.”

I was travelling through Macon and stopped at local store. Kid in there saw my Tech tag and told me his cousin was going to Tech and would start right away. I told him we would probably sit him and let him get bigger and stronger. Thay guy was Julian. He came in and immediately had an impact. Good luck in the future, I am sure you will have an impact in your next adventure.

Boy, sometimes life is totally unfair, but take heart, Mr. Burnette. Dedicate yourself to the book & class work, and never forget “That all things work for the good thru God”. My Dad taught his boys that all dark clouds have a silver lining, you just have to find it. Know that the Tech Nation has you in our hearts and memories. FLJ, I know you won’t agree with me on this, but I truly believe Obama would like nothing more than to be a dictator. And even if that’s an overstatement, there are plenty in DC who would love to have complete control over every facet of our lives. As far as the economy being cyclical, that is true, but we have NEVER faced the kind of debt that has been built up over the past few years, and we will NEVER get out of debt by continuing to spend and borrow.

FLJ, it will take 20 years for alternative energy sources to become the WAY OF LIFE. What do we do in the meantime? Sure, we all want that kind of progress, but for the time being we are faced with living with oil, and by almost completely relying on foreign oil, then we will go broke. That kind of switch does not, and can not, occur overnight. And Obama’s investment of OUR money in scams like Solandra sure ain’t helping.

The government has it set up so the TAX PAYING citizens of this country can not win.
They give us a choice between Republican and Democrat. There is not a dimes difference between them. All through history you have had the rich and the poor. The industrial Revolution brought in a middle class work force. A poor man has never given another man a job, and it’s impossible to TAX the rich. If you raise the taxes on the rich they raise the price of there goods. That causes me to pay more money at the stores. If you lower the taxes on the rich that causes me to pay more taxes in. And the poor? Well they are living off me anyway. All food stamps are is a way to make the poor contribute to society. If they are getting a gove check they are at least spending it at walmart.

48—I see you too are a reader. I’m currently reading my 2nd bio about George Washington. This one goes into much more detail about his personality and personal life. One of the greatest ironies of all time is that he acted as a scout/aide to the British Army during the French and Indian War. He was in his middle to late 20’s and a Colonel in the Virginia militia. He sought a permanent commission from the British Army and they refused him, much to their later regret.
