Georgia Tech guard Glen Rice Jr. will remain suspended through the upcoming ACC tournament, coach Brian Gregory said Monday in the ACC coaches teleconference.
Rice was suspended prior to the Virginia Tech game Feb. 18 and has not played since, a total of five games. Gregory has declined to address the matter further, calling it an internal matter.
Gregory praised his players for responding to the suspension. Tech has won two of the five games and easily could have won another two.
“Our guys understood the challenge that was posed to us when the suspension happened, and I think our guys have responded pretty well,” he said.
Tech will play Miami Thursday night in the first round of the ACC tournament at Philips Arena.
“I don’t know what [Rice's absence] has to do with (Tech’s play), but clearly they are playing terrific right now,” Miami coach Jim Larranaga said. “Their performance against Maryland, the way they shared the ball, the way they played defense, was very impressive to me.”
Wake Forest was the last team that Rice faced, a 59-50 loss for the Jackets. Tech beat the Demon Deacons Saturday in the regular-season finale.
“I just think when we played them the second time, they were really a united group,” Wake coach Jeff Bzdelik said. “They really worked well together, they moved the ball well, they executed their gameplan. It was one heartbeat and that’s just my observation.”

You keep spouting that nonsense from your trash mouth. You wouldn’t know a good team or coach if they slapped your stupid Ass in the face. Get a life! You have not payed for the right to insult or boo an athlete you are a Moron. You ,obviously, have never played a sport in your life.

A lot of “short-sided” people on this page. Have you seen the players coming in next year? It will be a huge improvement over this year…….and last several Paul Blewitt years! GO JACKETS!

In this whole Glen Rice, Jr. situation, everyone should remember that Brian Gregory’s coaching ability has nothing to do with it. If GRJ violated a team rule, he should be punished, plain and simple. It’s the players’ responsibility to assimilate into the coach’s system, not the other way around. And for those of you who think that Coach Gregory WANTED to suspend Rice to make room for a bunch of unproven freshmen and a benchwarmer from Kentucky, that is just intellectually stupid. Talent-wise, Rice is/was Tech’s best player, but talent only takes you so far. Coach Gregory has every right to suspend any player who violates his policies, just as an employer has every right to fire an employee for violating company policy.

I like a guy that sticks to his principles. So, I like Brian Gregory.I also like the way this team is playing. They don’t have a lot of talent but they certainly have a lot of heart and lets give coach some credit for that.Tech does not need prima donnas like Mr Rice.

Some of you guys….surely must know something to be criticizing Rice so much.
No ball grue here but Rice seemed (to me) to pass the ball and not be a ball hog and a constant shooter.
Ken, if Coach won’t tell…just ask Rice. I’d like to know why. I’d like to see him playing again. Guess old whatshisname will say “your an idiot” LOL

I hope his ass gets kicked off the team. As someone who played another sport at Tech while Glen Rice Jr. was on the B-ball team, this kid is about as arrogant and chauvinistic as they get. One of those spoiled kids who they are entitled to success because they ride the coat tail of a parent. This kid deserves nothing more than what he is willing to work for which sadly is virtually nothing… Best of luck buddy, smells to me like your Tech days are OVER…

And if anyone wants to know what he did he decided to have a cussing contest with his coaches and chose thereafter to put his hand on a coach’s face in a “mushing” motion. Borderline assault IMO. This kid’s a joke.

Truth, if he did that, why was he just suspended and not eliminated from the team?
I supposed you witnessed the mushing and can corroborate.
A talent is a terrible thing to waste.

Tech fans on here are pathetic, I hope that Glen Rice Jr. gets his act together and gets back on the team before the season is over.

With Holsey,Miller, and Udofia playing as well as they have been we shoudn’t need him even if we want to make a run i think even if miami wins well give them a run for their money even without rice
