First observations – A well-placed bye, after the fifth game. … Six of the first eight games are at home, including four in a row in September, and then three of the last four are on the road, including at Georgia. … With three Coastal Division games in the first four weeks, Tech’s ACC titles hopes could well be in terrific shape, or dashed, before the end of September. … Duke plays Tech after its bye week, which I think it also did this past season. North Carolina will also get Tech after the bye.

And of course, beating UGA and occasionally winning a bowl game would go a long way in filling the increasingly empty seats. (And, as we saw with Hewitt, it will largely be attendance and revenue that really determines the program’s leadership.)

realfan….I don’t know WHERE you attend games, but at Tech they use computer scanners. They tabulate the number of TICKET HOLDING people that ATTEND the game.
if you are so so smart how can MORE people ATTEND a Vols game than the stated seating capacity? I guess they COUNT the Tickets or the dial number on the turnstile.
Attendance and ticket sales are different things. Many schools have games sold out but the attendance is not sold out.

I agree about beating UGA, FMJ. I don’t think most fans really care about bowl games anymore, though.

P.S., playing better competition probably would help your team improve, recruiting, and not get blown out everytime you play a decent team in a bowl….otherwise, continue to be satisfied with 7 and 8 win seasons playing a weak schedule.

I will take the bet that Miami or Uva will not be 3:30. One of those will def be a mid afternoon or late game. maybe both.

Unlike many of our “friends” in Athens, I take little or no pleasure in preseason chest-thumping and bragadaccio. I rather like CPJ’s understated style and the idea of flying under the radar until you get the chance to prove it on the field. I’d always rather exceed expectations than having to back off hyperbolic trash-talking.

GS, I agree, the UGA game really is our bowl game every year, even when we make the ACC champ game.

Bob Horner, apparently you didn’t log in any over the past month when every day there were pop-up ads for season tickets for UGA. I have never seen them do that before, and Tech has never done that, so apparently season ticket sales in Athens are not going as well this year as in the past.

If GT defeats VT, then likely to have 3:30 or night kickoff for the other Sept. home games. If GT loses to VT, we’ll be forgotten by ESPN and playing at noon the rest of the month.

Really? Presbyterian? Cumberland must have been scheduled already. If Tech can’t win 8 with that schedule they should give up D1 football and just go to the FCS and play with Jax St and Midd Tenn and Ga St. All those schools they recruit against now.

Recruit against MTSU? You mean like UGA does?

UOAD, I haven’t seen a UGA game on TV from Athens in the past 5 years that was full. So either there are a lot of no-shows for those games, or there is some very clever disguising of the fans to look like empty seats.

I predict either a late afternoon or early evening start for the Presbyterian game. Why would we want it to be at noon. There certainly won’t be any TV coverage for it. A couple of years ago we even scheduled one of those early patsies on a Thursday night. That obviously won’t happen this year, but there’s no reason for it to start at noon.

SuperSize it has taken a while but many UGa fans have figured it out. They can save a TON of money NOT buying season tickets and just buy from the scalpers the games worth seeing.

Super , I was surprised to see the ads seeking applications. Every game except one has been a sellout for years. I know to get season tickets you will have to donate $, single game tickets are available when the visiting team doesn’t sell their allotment.Last year the cumulative score to be considered for season tickets was 500. To get florida tickets last year the cumulative score (donations over 10 year period) was 8400, anyone who had donated less wouldn’t receive Fl Tickets. To have bought ticket through athletic department for tech game last year required 31,000 points.

7-5, sure hope I’m wrong. Will have to see a pass rush and more dynamic play from the QB position to change my prediction.
We should be loaded at RB and DB, but have a lot of question marks everywhere else.

Ha. You dorks are funny. You talk about UGA not filling up the stadium but you dorks can’t fill-up your high school stadium against UGA, your biggest game of the year. Went last year and was shocked by the number of empty seats. Enjoy your 7-6 season which includes the annual losses to UGA and in your bowl game.

Chris, two years ago Sanford Stadium wasn’t filled for the Tech game either. I watched it on TV, and there were empty seats (as always) in the upper corners of the upper decks. Those aren’t visitor seats, so where were all the dwag fans? It wasn’t full for the last LSU game played there or for the USC game last year either.

Super, I didn’t say this years seasons was a sellout, I said the past several years were all sellouts > the first game that wasn’t a sellout since the tech game of 2000. was Coastal Carolina in 2011 only 91.946 tickets were sold.64 straight sell outs.

Wow “supersize,” are you that stupid? When a game first comes on the air, yes, those sections are sometimes not full but fill-up after the game starts. I have seen it 100 times. The USC game last year was as packed as can be. I was there. Did not see empty seats. Lets pretend you are right and “only” 88,000 show up in a 93,000 stadium. How do you explain Tech’s little stadium never being full? Get your facts straight.

Super , Or Perhaps some visiting fans buy tickets and don’t go to the game. If the tickets are returned by visiting team , University offers them as single game tickets , 64 straight sellouts from 2001 until CC game of 2011. and concerning Tenn they are not filling up Neyland like they used to Cincinaati and Montana only had 94,000 in 2011.
