Rice suspension into third game

Georgia Tech guard Glen Rice Jr.’s suspension will continue at least through the Yellow Jackets’ Saturday game against Maryland at Philips Arena. Coach Brian Gregory said Thursday that Rice’s suspended status remained the same but would not offer more detail.

Rice, the Jackets’ leading scorer and rebounder, has missed the past two games due to the suspension.

Just drop this guy, he’d rather be in trouble than play and help the team. Next season, Gregory has 3 new ones coming in along with Royal. Give another year of recruiting and GT will be back.

I guess Gregory doesn’t mind having his team laughed at. He is getting his fat paycheck why worry that the team needs Rice Jr.to have a chance at beating Maryland. These NCAA coaches need to be regulated.Half of them are on power trips. This does include Gregory.I won’t be wasting my money on GT season tickets anymore. They couldn’t put a ball in the middle of the ocean. They all looked scared to death playing Clemson. What an awful season.

37 points against Clemson.Enough said!My high school team scores more.Lowest score since the 1930’s.3 new players aren’t going to help Tech any time soon.

GT man, there will be 4 new faces next year. Don’t forget Stacy Poole, the transfer from Ky who was a 4-star coming out of HS. He’ll be eligible in December and have 3 years left.

What is going on with our sports programs at GT? It is disheartening to observe all the chaotic behavior. BG has a lot to prove and he is not starting off good in my opinion. There is no guarantee that he will have a better team next year ,and if he does will he know what to do with them? He has a boat load of excuses. He wasn’t a prize catch anyway as a coach we could have done better. Hopefully, his recruits won’t change their minds after thy see what a laughing stock he is making of the basketball program. If it were my son he would be looking elsewhere .Unhappy and unmotivated-the new face of GT basketball.

What drop Rice? Are you serious? He plays harder than anyone on that team and they only win when he is playing.Tech don’t have any other options.I agree there are NO guarantees of a better season next year.Wishful thinking .Probably the same old scary looking team. Can’t wait for the Jeremy Lin of GT to arrive?

Glad GT finally has a basketball coach willing to make the tough decisions. The attitude “cancer” started last year with Rice and Oliver and Hewitt did nothing to address it. I don’t care if Rice never plays another game at GT. When his team needed him the most he has deserted them and let them down. Perhaps he should start thinking of someone other than himself.

Elle, if you truly were a season ticket holder, which I sincerely doubt since it is much more likely you are a troll, the GT basketball program is better off with people like you not in the stands. A coach needs discipline from his players. It was apparent that the previous regime did not institute a good policy of discipline amongst the players. Gregory is changing the culture, and to sit your best scorer in the middle of ACC play says something about his character. There are more important things than basketball, and I am proud to see Gregory coaching our team and cleaning up the team’s culture.

I am not happy with the current season either as far as W’s, but I do think Gregory will have success when we get the type of people he needs. The basis is there on the inside, we need some real guards who can penetrate, distribute the ball and shoot. Rice was too much out of control and not the leader we needed. Hang in there folks.

BrGr needs to coach all types of players to win a championship. You cant win with cookie-cutter athletes. Tech will continue to get blown away. Soon, GSU will be the top choice for hoops in GA.
BrGr cant recruit in small towns, the south, or NYC…….mix it up baby and then put the Coach K touch to what you have…..Make them boys want to learn your style…..Whew!!!!!

Clearly, Hewitt left the team without enough talent to compete. When you have just 8 scholarship players, the coach has failed to recruit. Granted that most years Hewitt brought in talent but he gave up and left the cupboard bare for CBG. It will take 2 years and then the program will be up to 10+ scholarship players and be able to compete talent-wise.

BG has laid out his expectations for his players. If they dont follow, let em sit. This was going to be a tough season no matter what. But I like what I see as far as improved style of play, esp on defense. The wins will come when he gets his own recruits in here.

I remember in 2010 tourney run with Favors, hewitt took away everyone on the teams cell phones and that upon interviewing some of the players after they said that they finally got to know eachother. Apparently Favors was always texting his girlfriend or whatever. After that happened, the team was playing as a team, went to the finals of the ACC tourney making them a lock for the NCAA tourney where they won their first round game and lost to a very good Ohio state team respectfully. All this to say that Gregory inherited a “team” of individuals (assuming they have their cell phones now) which does not work. The NCAA limits practice time, practice time that is spent teaching fundamentals such as inbounding the ball and boxing out. He can’t force them to stay in the gym after and work on their shots, that’s on the players. Shumpert and Oliver are gone, and Rice knows he’s the best player we have. Instead of being a leader and rallying the team, he’s breaking rules. He could be the star out there if he wanted, but seems to only care about himself. Drop him and pull in a decent PG, what a waste of talent…

BG hasn’t done anything at Tech but collect his paycheck.

Wait a D… minute. BG is doing just fine. He inherited a team with players from another system which was flawed – not by the players it had – but the players with skill sets they did not have. The previous coach could not win with this group nor can the current coach. What the coach did do is hire the assistants who could recruit the state and the ACC, he regained Georgia from UGA in one year, beat Georgia in Athens for the first time since 1976!, won a road game in the ACC, and has a top 25 recruiting for next. Although the long term jury is still out, what more do you want in the first year ????????????? Save yr negatives for something else!.

Why do you all keep talking about when BG gets his recruits. The majority of the players he has now are good players -top in their high school and the state. What is he doing with the team now? No one player or three new ones is going to save Tech. If you believe that I have a castle I’d like to sell you. Fairytales!

Hewitt did this-Hewitt did that. Hewitt has moved on and winning lots of games at GMU. Check his record. He could care less about your blaming him for everything bad that has happened in the past 50 years at Tech. Hewitt is a good man and will continue to be.

CBG knows what he is doing. The defense, rebounding and fundamentals are much improved, not to mention the effort. GT will be OK. I don’t know what’s up with Glen Rice. He should realize that GT fans don’t care what his Dad did in the NBA. There’s no reason to mention Coach Hewitt. He’s no longer the coach at Georgia Tech.

Gregory won’t do anything special next year at Tech. He was an average coach at Dayton and will continue to be just that -Average.. Keep making all of your predictions of good team next year, recruits to the rescue.Maybe he will recruit Rivers,Curry,Barnes and Henson. That is the only way Gregory may possibly having a prayer of going anywhere in the ACC. Rest assured it would not be because of any of his coaching skills but because of Coaches K and Williams.

For those not happy with BG, you should direct your frustration at Braine, Hewitt and DRad. Braine for the Hewitt contract. Hewitt for laying down on the job after getting the lifetime contract. and DRad for keeping Hewitt several years too long and letting the program drop to a level not seen since the 70s.
BG accepted a job with no home court, unhappy fan base, undisciplined players and very little talent. He has attended football games, trying to get the students interested again, recruited well, etc. The team sucks, but it is playing harder than we have seen in years and with a little talent and discipline, we may be competitive next year. But, give the man a chance.

First off all of my other TECH friends and alum are fully behind coach BG, we find it funny reading the trolls that are trying to put coach BG down, it must really hurt to know that a new coach at TECH making little money ( due to still having to pay Hewitt 1 mil a year ) not having a home court (new court under const this year) having only 8 players under scholarship ( one being Rice Jr. ) and having only one Sr. ( Foreman ) having to rebuild the program from the depts Hewitt left us in and teaching the work ethic needed to be an upper level ACC team year in and year out, and yet he still went into UGA’s home and beat the pup’s .
Every former coach and analist belive he will get TECH back to being one of the top teams in the ACC, next year we will have a new home court, 3 highly rated Fr. and also Poole ( was # 14 rated sf comming out of high schoole and he also has a brother that is a sr in high school next year is one of the top 5 rated guards ) and all of the starters will return ( we dont know about Rice Jr ). The future is very bright for TECH BB

To all of the people on here supporting Hewitt and bashing the work that Gregory is doing:

Paul Hewitt created this mess. He may be winning games at GMU, so what? He couldn’t do it here. In ten years he had ONE winning season in the ACC. You want to talk about a coach who was doing nothing more than showing up and collecting a fat paycheck? His name was Paul Hewitt, not Brian Gregory.

Don’t for one minute think that each one of the negative comments above isn’t from the same poser, I mean poster. It’s one person, maybe even that old guy, Hewitt fan, remember him.

The only reson to bring Hewitt into this is because these are his recruits. Hewitt could not win with them in his own system. Why would anyone think BG could do any different, especially given some of the apparent attitudes.

Anyone preaching Hewitt’s strengths just because he is doing well at JMU right now needs to remember that Hewitt did well at Sienna and at GT, until he was given that lifetime contract by Braineless. All that does is support the theory that Hewitt, whether intentional or not, quit doing his job when he didn’t have to. Some might even question whether he was trying to get fired and collect on his contract while going somewhere else and operating under a similar schema.

As for BG, he has support from a vast amount of alumni. Only an extremely ignorant person (or troll) would cast such aspersions on a first year head coach given the tools he had to work with upon his arrival.

Well done, Alden. You called me a moron, and an “Incest-Bred cave dweller!” yet you couldn’t even spell observer correctly when it was at the top of the page. The irony in that is fantastic. As for your points, I will be proud of GT basketball if graduation rates and academic standards are higher (look at UConn for an example of a school who forgot that they are an “institution of learning” not a basketball factory), the players are well-respected individuals in whatever field they pursue (see Crittenton for an example of what we don’t want our former players becoming), and the athletes are competing for forty minutes of every game. Wins won’t come in abundance immediately, no one but a fool would have expected that. But a change in the culture of this program will invigorate the fan base and make this program the success it used to be.

For all you so-called GT “fans” raving about the job Hewitt is doing at GMU, I am pretty sure the level of competition in the Colonial Athletic Association is quite a bit different than what is in the ACC. GT plays Maryland this weekend – GMU plays Northeastern (not even Northtwestern – Northeastern!!)

GTVegas is right – all the “posers” here running down CBG and the program this year are probably UGA fans looking at the current state of failure of THEIR MBB program this year.
