Update: Tech last piece of ACC scheduling puzzle

Update: The ACC wasn’t waiting only on Florida State. With Florida State having found an opponent for its Sept. 8 slot, the clock is now ticking solely for Georgia Tech.

The school had to move games around to accommodate its Labor Day game against Virginia Tech and is still looking for an opponent for Sept.8, five days after the Virginia Tech game.

“Hopefully we’re getting to a conclusion, but it’s been frustrating,” associate athletic director Wayne Hogan said.

Hogan said the school has narrowed its search down to two schools, which he declined to name.

“We’re close,” he said. “I hope we can announce something soon.”

The Seminoles will play Savannah State to replace its game against West Virginia, which canceled the game as it is about to join the Big 12. Savannah State will receive $475,000 for its visit to Tallahassee. The ACC had been waiting on Florida State to find an opponent to complete the league schedule.

Two known dates for Georgia Tech are the Sept. 3 Labor Day game against Virginia Tech and a home game against BYU Oct. 27. Tech figures to play Georgia Nov. 24 in Athens.

Your “guess” is wrong, Barney. Spend less time thinking about the ACC schedule and more time fixing what is between your ears.

crummy facilities?

Tech was voted to have top athletic facilities in the nation last year?

Washed up coaches?
Two Time ACC coach of the year, BCS bowl, CPJ has done well

High School Offense?
Consistently rated in the top 10 offenses in the Nation
5 for 13 passing for 30 yards may not sound good, but it worked for 42 to 10 win over UGA

WOW! BTTF, I had no idea LSU’s offensive #s (rushing / passing) in the SEC championship game were so similar to a GT box score (i.e. HEAVY rush yds … LOW pass yds). Guess they have a high school offense too. Just a much better D than the Jackets.

And the big bad Dawgs dominated the box score in 1st downs & time of poss, and had 60 more yds total offense yet they were only able to post 10 pts on the scoreboard??

Oh yeah … I guess Dumpster diver doesn’t know about GT’s new indoor practice facility? Don’t seem to recall there being one in Athens?

GT Fan, obviously dumpster doesn’t know about the indoor practice facility, or the Olympic pool, or the soon-to-be-finished state-of-the-art basketball arena (as opposed to the livestock exhibition “barn” in Athens which was built with Georgia tax-payer money), or, for that matter, anything else on the Tech campus.

Can someone explain why Tech is not keeping the game date with Middle Tennessee State for September 8? MTS was the school that was originally listed on the proposed schedule and is even still listed on some boards (without updates). I know it is a short turnaround after VT, but come on Tech you can do this scheduling stuff better than this. Sure would be helpful if you did not send out season ticket renewals until you know your schedule. I plan to be at Bobby Dodd Stadium regardless, but there are some things I am trying to schedule now rather than later.

Of course GT’s game, FIVE (5) days after playing VT (on the road), will be a cupcake. Unless the Jackets are OFF on 9/15, it will be just like in 2009 when they started with 3 games in 12 days. Got killed by Miami in game 3 too.

But I’d take a similar (ACC Championship & BCS bowl) season in 2012!

GT has severely hurt their chances in 2 Ls to VT with crippling penalties (2008 & 2011). Play clean, and the Hokies will go down on 9/3/2012.

OK, we know GT is looking for an opponent for 9/8/12. If this is all the ACC is waiting on,
let’s have the whole schedule for the ACC, at least!!!

So we don’t have to go through all this crap in another 5 or 6 years the ACC needs to make a big push (behind the scenes) to Get Penn St and Notre Dame to join us soon.

I love Georgia Tech, but I am becoming disappointed with the Tech athletic administration for not agreeing to play Middle Tennessee State as originally scheduled for September 8. Maybe that will be the game in the end, but it doesn’t sound like it. We don’t need to play another weak sister. Face up to the fact that you are playing in Division I football and we don’t need to play any so called weak sisters (there are not any, anyway). Play the game as scheduled. Stop delaying! You are paying a coach more than $2 million dollars a year and he is already set for life and can certainly take the chance.
