Georgia Tech-Clemson live blog

Greetings-

Hope this finds you well. A few points, and we’ll start it up.

1. Guard Jason Morris will be a game-time decision. He warmed up with the team, but will test out his foot sprain just before the game starts. As I write, he’s come out for layups and is moving pretty well. If he can play, he’ll start. If not, coach Brian Gregory will have Mfon Udofia, Pierre Jordan and Nick Foreman as his guards. The double jeopardy of losing Morris is that he could give minutes at either forward spot.

2. Gregory said that his primary concern with a thin bench is defending Clemson’s transition. To start with, that means limiting turnovers.

3. Watch out for guard Andre Young from Albany and Deerfield-Winsdor School (alma mater of Tony Zenon). He is 25 for 39 on 3-pointers against Georgia Tech over his career, 64 percent.

Enjoy the game.

Ken,
Make sure that any former GT lettermen at the game are not critical of the refs. They are a very sensitive lot and I’d hate to see Mark Price get ejected.

Ken, I don’t know if it’s my connection or what, but I’m really having a hard time refreshing the blog here, and I had major problems with that earlier this afternoon. Any idea if it might be a problem at your end?

Good defensive rebounding, but not making anything out of it

Ken, is it a slow news cycle when Carvell decides to dust off the “what commitment means starring CPJ” article again?

Is anyone at the game? I’m sure the Maryland game on Saturday will sell out now that the tickets are being sold for $10.

Well, the filters didn’t like something, but FL Jacket, that blog has prompted a lot of interesting discussion over the past 2 days, most of it pretty friendly and fun yestahday

Ken, something for you to run by the filter people if you get the chance. The word we use for the day before today is being blocked. That’s why I had to say “yestahday” on my previous post.

Supersize…it pretty much exposed a lot about the squirminess of Mark Richt on that issue. I don’t think that’s an indictment on CMR, I think its more part of the game theory that goes on in the recruiting of 4- and 5-star football recruits.

FL Jacket, it was interesting to see that CMR’s philosophy apparently isn’t really much different from CPJ’s. It’s just that CPJ is more outspoken about it, and that is not a fault.

I think this game needs to be in the 50s for Tech to win. A hobbled Jason Morris can’t carry the scoring from the perimeter by himself…

i’d say the 100 section is about half full, but the 200 level – the top 15 or so rows in the lower bowl – is almost empty. hopefully saturday will be better.
FL Jacket – Michael has written about that before. it’s always interesting fodder, though.
super – “terd” gets caught in the filter. dumb, i realize.

holsey has to learn to get rid of it out of double teams a little quicker.

Ken, yes, it is dumb, especially since that’s not even the correct spelling of the possibly offensive 4 letter word.

I know Ken, it’s like watching train wreck. Of course I’m not turning away! For CPJ, I see him speaking on behalf of a lot of coaches on that matter…but I’m wondering if that’s a good thing for GT and for him when it comes to recruiting.

Supersize…yester day (haha)

Jeez…it’s going to come down AGAIN to turnovers and 3-point shooting.

We’re no different than a mediocre mid-major team…

FL Jacket, thanks. That works. LOL

I’m not sure CPJ’s philosophy hurts recruiting. Nobody is forcing anybody to commit. He’s just telling them if they do then they need to be serious about it.

I sure hope Gregory is able to recruit some shooters.

FL Jacket

February 21st, 2012

CPJ’s evaluation and recruiting work better in an environment with an early signing period…so that guys like Will Adams and Antonio Crawford (who commit when they’re 2-star guys) don’t go running to the “easy girl” who didn’t give them the time of day until right before NSD

Supersize…

I think we’ll be solid from position 2-5 with Poole (in 2013), Hunt, Morris, Royal, Holsey, Carter, and Miller. I think that’s a team with solid depth. Just no PG…

kind of a rough half. tech actually is shooting ok – 40 percent – but can’t hold onto it. but the inability to exploit double teams is confounding.

FL Jacket

What do you think it’s going to take, Ken? Clemson going cold? I don’t see how we sustain any offense without a Jason Morris getting NBA Jam hot…

Ken, while it’s halftime, I have a non-basketball question. Have you heard anything lately regarding the rather widespread Friedgen rumors going around last week. I know you said last week that Friedgen’s agent pretty much denied it, but that’s the last I have heard in either direction. Is there anything new?
