Georgia Tech guard Glen Rice Jr.’s suspension will continue into the Yellow Jackets’ Tuesday night game against Clemson. Coach Brian Gregory said on the ACC teleconference Monday morning that Rice will not play in the game or practice with the team Monday.
Rice was suspended indefinitely prior to Tech’s Saturday game against Virginia Tech, a 74-73 overtime loss, and did not travel with the team to Blacksburg, Va. The Jackets played one of their best games of the season, losing on a desperation 3-pointer by Virginia Tech guard Dorenzo Hudson as time expired.
“I was proud of the way our guys competed for 45 minutes and I thought we played some of our best basketball,” Gregory said.
Rice, Tech’s leading scorer and rebounder, also was suspended for the first three games of the season.

It was an exciting game to watch. I felt really bad for the guys for fighting through overtime the way they did and then to lose because of a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Why would Rice want to play for the worst team in the ACC? I would jet to another school too. Brian Gregory hasn’t done anything and has proven nothing to make Rice want to stay. The basketball program is an embarrasment to the sport and should consider joining the southern conference if not drop it all together! What a waste of money for the new stadium. GT hoops is garbage just like the GT administration (ie Radakovich). GT will never win 10 games in a season again!! GT = JOKE!!!

Gregory is trying to boost himself in the eyes of the media and using GR as his tool.If he were such a great coach he wouldn’t have to suspend a player for silliness. When was the last time coach K suspended a player. He doesn’t have to because he has the respect of his players. You don’t brow beat players into submission that is not coaching.Obviously,Rice was not in legal trouble or violating NCAA rules.Gregory needs to act like a grown man and set an example.Rice is the only exciting one on that boring-inconsistent team.

What a joke Gt basketball has become. First off they should have stopped bargain shopping for a real coach. Maybe they would have gotten a good one.I have stopped watching them. The majority of the team can’t shoot and the turnovers are unbelievable.Miller stops playing every game in the third quarter because he is too tired.Gregory is not the answer. He will be fired in the end.Might be a blessing for Rice in the end. Maybe he can go somewhere else and thrive. I want to know what he did to warrant suspension too. Probably, rolled his eyes at Gregory and got caught.Mountain out of a mole hill.

IMHO, Rice’s play seems to show a lack of discipline, fundamentals, and desire.
His “drive & heave-up a 1-handed prayer” style of shooting isnt very successful
and IMO shows a lack of discipline and fundamentals.

I said before the season started that we would be near the bottom in the ACC and some folks berated me a bit, saying that we will be well up in the top half. Well, we are not very good right now, but is it possible that we might improve with the new guys coming in? I think so. And as far as firing a first year coach; they hang Dean Smith in effigy. That was real smart. Look at Frank Beamer’s record after five years or so — it was not good. So, perhaps we should give coaches a chance to get their system/players fully in operation before screaming like a wild bangee, calling for their heads.

@ Buzoff, YES, I see improvement in this team. First, we beat UGA IN Athens, which hasn’t been done by any coach since 1976. I have yet to see us fail to get the ball in on an inbounds pass, something which Hewitt’s teams struggled with EVERY GAME the past two years. We play better defense and have better rebounding. And when we go inside, we actually hit lay-ups, another failing of almost all of Hewitt’s teams.

Yeah but normally a coach gets more then 3/4ths of one season to prove his value. I hate to break it to you but most coaches who take over for a fired coach don’t have a great first season. Do you really think we should fire him because he couldn’t take an untalented and previously poorly coached team and turn them into world beaters?

Hewitt did the same thing when he came to GT, coached some good players he inherited to some degree of success. The other difference is that Hewitt now has a contract that requires him to perform. He will have some initial success, get a new gimme contract that does not require him to perform and fall flat on his face.
I personally think Hewitt can be a great coach, when he wants to be, or has to be, but the contract at GT was just plain “Braineless”.
As for BG, he inherited nothing, no team players, no stadium and next to no fan support.
He has a pass for a couple more years.
