Rice’s suspension will continue

Georgia Tech guard Glen Rice Jr.’s suspension will continue into the Yellow Jackets’ Tuesday night game against Clemson. Coach Brian Gregory said on the ACC teleconference Monday morning that Rice will not play in the game or practice with the team Monday.

Rice was suspended indefinitely prior to Tech’s Saturday game against Virginia Tech, a 74-73 overtime loss, and did not travel with the team to Blacksburg, Va. The Jackets played one of their best games of the season, losing on a desperation 3-pointer by Virginia Tech guard Dorenzo Hudson as time expired.

“I was proud of the way our guys competed for 45 minutes and I thought we played some of our best basketball,” Gregory said.

Rice, Tech’s leading scorer and rebounder, also was suspended for the first three games of the season.

Rice needs to get it together if he even wants the possibly of playing at the next level. But the way is going about it he will just be a after thought when we finaly leaves Ga Tech.

He better pull his head out or just stop going to class and start trying to get ready for the NBA or Europe.

It was an exciting game to watch. I felt really bad for the guys for fighting through overtime the way they did and then to lose because of a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

I would normally say that his dad needs to plant a foot in his backside, but Rice, Sr. is not exactly a paragon of virtue and self-restraint either.

The guys played good enough to win vs. VaTech, and they never quit. Sometimes the hail-Mary gets through.

I’m glad CBG is sticking to his guns and setting a precedent with Rice.

I doubt that he will be at Tech next year, and his apparent attitude towards being a team player (not so, its all about me) will make his departure good for the team. I expect next year’s team, without him, will be much more competitive.

I second or third it etc. We do have the right coach. It may take a couple of years, but with the right coach and a new arena, we will be ok.

Why would Rice want to play for the worst team in the ACC? I would jet to another school too. Brian Gregory hasn’t done anything and has proven nothing to make Rice want to stay. The basketball program is an embarrasment to the sport and should consider joining the southern conference if not drop it all together! What a waste of money for the new stadium. GT hoops is garbage just like the GT administration (ie Radakovich). GT will never win 10 games in a season again!! GT = JOKE!!!

Such a sad story with Rice. Being a member of the team does not seem high on his priority list. Hate to say it, but might as well cut ties with him and move on. Hope he gets himself straightened out.

Gregory is trying to boost himself in the eyes of the media and using GR as his tool.If he were such a great coach he wouldn’t have to suspend a player for silliness. When was the last time coach K suspended a player. He doesn’t have to because he has the respect of his players. You don’t brow beat players into submission that is not coaching.Obviously,Rice was not in legal trouble or violating NCAA rules.Gregory needs to act like a grown man and set an example.Rice is the only exciting one on that boring-inconsistent team.

I’m pretty shocked that he is still on the team at this point. Benched at the end of last year by Hewitt, suspended by Gregory first three games this season, and suspended again by Gregory now. He should be thankful that Gregory is even giving him a chance.

He Is still on the team because he is the only one worth watching .A boring team needs at least one player worth watching. He is the only one at this point on the team that has a chance of going to the league. Maybe if he wasn’t suspended so much he could get his game going. The team was fun to watch when Hewitt was coaching. The rest are awful shooters.

What a joke Gt basketball has become. First off they should have stopped bargain shopping for a real coach. Maybe they would have gotten a good one.I have stopped watching them. The majority of the team can’t shoot and the turnovers are unbelievable.Miller stops playing every game in the third quarter because he is too tired.Gregory is not the answer. He will be fired in the end.Might be a blessing for Rice in the end. Maybe he can go somewhere else and thrive. I want to know what he did to warrant suspension too. Probably, rolled his eyes at Gregory and got caught.Mountain out of a mole hill.

Kudos to Coach Gregory. He has taken control of this team and is leading like a coach should. We don’t know all the facts, but have seen enough of Rice’s behavior to know this probably was necessary.

This season is turning out to be as hard as predicted, but I see positive things in our future.

IMHO, Rice’s play seems to show a lack of discipline, fundamentals, and desire.

His “drive & heave-up a 1-handed prayer” style of shooting isnt very successful
and IMO shows a lack of discipline and fundamentals.

His “persona” on the court seems to be that of someone who really doesnt care any more.

IMHO, the more tattoos a player has, the bigger the knucklehead he probably is.

Why all the secretiveness? Why was Rice suspended?I won’t be passing judgement on the young man until I hear the reason for all these suspensions of the same player. Is this what BG did at Dayton? Maybe he should be suspended if he can’t get his team to win with his coaching ability. What a mess my schools sports programs have become.Disappointing.

@hoops guru…is that yoda speak? Seriously…if you want change you need to voice your opinion…I don’t care what dumb fools here call me (troll, UGA fan etc). Nothing ever gets done unless you do it yourself. You think building a new facility will make GT a better basketball program? GT has sucked the might wiener in hoops a LOOOOONNNGGG time. BTW football has looked like the sham that it is too! PJ will never win a good (if GT ever goes) bowl game. I think GT should consider playing team like LA Laf or Akron maybe they will win a bowl game. Oh and forget about UGA…..GT will lose every one of those games forever!!! What is it now…..175 to 20?

Gt basketball might as well end their season today.Clemson will beat them.Last place in the ACC. Now how much is Tech playing Gregory? He should give it all back. He doesn’t deserve a dime.I am sick of him suspending Rice every week for headlines, I agree he needs to find another horse to beat, and the team should be winning some games.Almost won isn’t good enough when you are getting paid a cool mil a year. The players get how much? They can’t even get a loan from a friend without getting suspended. The NCAA crooks.

I said before the season started that we would be near the bottom in the ACC and some folks berated me a bit, saying that we will be well up in the top half. Well, we are not very good right now, but is it possible that we might improve with the new guys coming in? I think so. And as far as firing a first year coach; they hang Dean Smith in effigy. That was real smart. Look at Frank Beamer’s record after five years or so — it was not good. So, perhaps we should give coaches a chance to get their system/players fully in operation before screaming like a wild bangee, calling for their heads.
