Georgia Tech-Boston College live blog

Greetings-

Hope you’re feeling zesty for the 1 p.m. tipoff between Georgia Tech and Boston College, two teams that are on a combined 11-game losing streak. I imagine both teams are looking at each other the way that hungry cartoon animals look at each other and imagine a turkey drumstick. That never gets old.

Anyway, a few points of note.

1. It appears guard Glen Rice Jr. (toe) will play but won’t start. He took part in warmups.

2. In ACC play, Boston College is the lowest-scoring team in the league, averaging 56.5 points per game. Tech is eighth, at 61.2 ppg. The Eagles, though, like to put up 3-pointers, which has not been a great strength for Tech. Boston College averages 20.3 3-point tries per game in ACC play, making 6.6. Tech is last in the league at 3-point field goal defense at 46.2 percent.

3. These are the two worst free-throw shooting teams in the conference.

Other than that, it should be an offensive bonanza.

Called a timeout to setup the last play of the half and turned the ball over with 6 seconds left on the clock. They come down and drill a three. That’s pretty terrible.

This coach has offensively challenged teams at Dayton (where he almost got ran off) and brings the same horrible offensive (and I mean Offensive) team to the Institute..
Slow and plodding full of turnovers with no real direction..
Terrible..

Pretty scrappy game but both teams are playing hard. It’s tough to have a good college team when you don’t have a PG.

GT 2011-12 9-14 overall 2-7 in ACC.
In 2010-11 at the same stage, GT was 10-13 overall, 3-7 in conference and starting a 1st round NBA pick.
In 2010-11 at the same stage, GM was 19-5, 10-2 in conference

Tech looks good at passing the ball, on defense, and blocking shots but not on shooting. Not enough drives to the basket.

Stupid basketball just needs to go away.

We need to be saving every athletic dollar we have for a quality football coach, and I don’t mean Paul Johnson.

Missed the game, but glad to see we finally won another one. And I agree, Sting em! No reason to jump ship yet. This is all Hewitt’s doing, and it’s going to take time to get rid of the horrible traits the team learned from him.

Jason Morris showed what he could do vs Georgia and Duke.
I sure hope he isn’t starting to wish he had left with Oliver.
Why couldn’t we pull in a PG at the last minute?
He would have been guaranteed a starting job on an ACC team.
Not impressed that the new coach can’t get him more shots.

Can’t believe someone would George Mason versus Georgia Tech records less than one year after a coaching change. Like that’s relevant or something.

At least Tech won, but Gregory should be embarrassed to allow a bad team like BC to take Tech to the wire in it’s own backyard. Embarrassing!

In 2008-09, in CPH’s 8th season, GT went 11-18 in the regular season – 2-14 in the ACC, including 0-8 on the road,
In CBG’s 1st season, GT is 2-7 in the ACC, including 1-4 on the road

As a Tech graduate I am ROUTINELY appalled a the flat out IGNORANCE of so many supposed “Tech supporters” on the AJC blogs. Whiny, uneducated (about sports in general anyways), ignorant fans. It is really, really sad. What offense would you like CBG to drum up with the lack of talent Blewitt left for him? I can guarantee Blewitt inherited more talent at George Mason than he left at GT.

Really?

Maybe he shouldn’t have ran off Oliver
BTW CPH first season at The Institute 17-13 NCAA first round bid
With a team of Alvin Jones as a leading scorer….

All I’m saying if you gonna get rid of a coach get a better coach in return.
6 NCAA (5 at the Institute 1 at Seina) bids one title appearance compared to 2 NCAA Bids at Dayton. Where they happily opened the door for him to leave. Tech got dupped

Hewitt also got Tech put on probation three times (twice for not graduating any of his players). Gregory also won in Athens this year which Hewitt never did. Hewitt had an agenda of trying to get black guys in the NBA and didn’t care about any of his guys getting an education. That is why one of his players is in jail for murder when he couldn’t make it in the NBA after his six months of not attending classes at Tech.

Last year team has nine players who can play

Shumpert, Rice, Oliver, Udofia, MoMiller, Morris, DMiller, Hosley and Storrs

This year team has seven players who can player
Rice, Udofia, Morris, DMiler, Hosley, Reed and Royal

So from last year to this year

- Shumpert, Oliver, MoMiller and Storrs
+ Reed, Royal

This year team needs every body to play well (especially, Rice and Udofia) to win. Unfortunately, that only happened in a couple of occasion (against UGA, Duke and N C States).

Let’s please move past the Hewitt and George Mason comparisons. His team has one quality win this year(per RPI) and that is Drexel, yes I said DREXEL. He left us with a train wreck when he tried to coach in the big boy league. Let’s get these CBG recruits in next year, add them to this hard working group of guys(can’t fault the effort) and put the Hewitt era in the rearview mirror. Maybe Dickerson signs on to run the point next year “to boot”.

GT lost to Fordham, Tulane, Mercer & Northwestern pathetic. George Mason played Virginia better than what GT was able to execute, couldn’t even mustet up to score 40 points. A pure laughing stock in a terrible ACC in which The Institute is dead last in. The cupboard is no more bare than that of Wake, Maryland, BC, or Miami’s and UGA is the worst team in the SEC.

But don’t believe me, check and find out how much in love Dayton’s fans were with CBG’s offensive stragegy and execution: http://udpride.com/forums/showthread.php?p=254852#post254852

Morris will continue to see more pine this season unless he plays smarter and stops sulking.

This year is going to suck, so get over it. Next year we will be competitive again. CBG will bring in four recruits (yes, he is signing a PG) who will see immediate minutes next season. He was able to do this because he wasn’t afraid to hire competent assistants who can recruit.
