Georgia Tech handcuffed itself in its recruiting efforts with impermissible text messages to a recruit and his father. The NCAA banned the Tech coaching staff from initiating telephone or written communication with the prospect for four weeks, starting in late December, according to an e-mail from Tech compliance director Jerome Rodgers that was obtained through the Georgia Open Record Act.
NCAA rules forbid all forms of electronically transmitted correspondence to recruits or their parents or guardians except for e-mail and faxes.
The NCAA penalized Tech for two of three texts, which were sent in November. The third was a text from Tech coach Paul Johnson, who thought he was replying to a text from a team member, not a recruit. In the e-mail, Rodgers called the violations “inadvertent.”
The e-mail noted that the school sought NCAA permission to divide the four-week penalty into two two-week periods in order to contact the prospect, identified as “Will,” during the week of his official visit to Tech. Sandy Creek High offensive lineman Will Adams visited Tech Jan. 13-15, the same weekend noted in the e-mail, and was the only prospect by that name that weekend. Reached Tuesday, Adams said he was not speaking with news media until his signing-day announcement Wednesday morning.
While Adams was committed to Tech at the time of the visit, he took an official visit to Auburn last weekend and is now considered undecided between Tech and Auburn. He is expected to announce his choice Wednesday morning.

For the record, Brown’s endowment is $2.2 billion. They also get less of the recruiting pie when it is distributed by the league. The way the Ivy League slots (by an Academic Index) the recruiting of athletes is a very interesting practice. The NYTimes had an article about it back in December.

CMR self reported his inadvertent text – the NCAA said OK.
CPJ was also forgiven for an inadvertent text. Same crime same penalty.
The other two text messages from GT to Will Adams were NOT self reported and WERE NOT inadvertent – HUGE difference folks.

UGA wasn’t on probation already when they self reported their inadvertent text. It is a stupid rule and one that probably 90% of the college coaches violate and don’t self report.

Where’s @gt69 ?? Why is it when Techmites violate NCAA ( ACC, Almost College Conference title stripped) — It was only a couple of hundreds $$ worth of stuff !!
NO you BLATANTLY and FLAGRANTLY defied the NCAA by playing ineligible players you were TOLD NOT TO PLAY. It ALSO went unreported by the AJC
( Atlanta Jacket Chronicle ) for HOW MANY MONTHS ? ? ?
Tech still trying to plea down those sanctions. Just like Tech tried to get no contact
w/ “Will” split into 2 periods.
Tech will always suffer in recruiting w/TOUGH TALKING CPJ —” I’ll talk real slow so you can understand me ” / “Just punch ‘em in the nose”. Add to that cutting loose your 1st recruit for TEST SCORES, KIDS TOLD IF THEY TAKE ANOTHER
VISIT they’ll not have a place at Tech.
Tech can get anyone into school they want ! ! !
Jimy (yes 1 “m” ) Lincoln Tech RB from Pittsburgh (good player) , @ 1980s, had a PARTY to celebrate making a 750 on the SAT on his FOURTH TRY.. .only one example
Let’s not even get into BASKETBALL !!.
Now you throw Junior under the bus this year w/ test score allegations and wonder
why guys are flipping on you ! ! !
TECH —- DISCIPLES OF DECEIT ! ! ! Your prgram is in the death spiral. . .

Talk to Ruben ” 62 lbs.” Houston and ask why his original attorney left the case !
@ wreckmaniac —- Tech is an example , A BAD EXAMPLE .Continue to defy
NCAA and see how that goes. Can’t hide behind ” different interprettion of rules ” . Like going into court and telling the judge he doesn’t know the law ! ! !
You pompous and arrogant clowns ! ! !
.
OBFUSCATION and DECEIT are all Tech has.
NCAA has a new Director of Enforcement — a former cop . You’re
already on the list. ! ! !

Yellow Maggot Killer, Tech wasn’t blatantly and flagrantly defying the NCAA they were telling them they had no case, and that they were not going to assume he was guilty based on what little evidence they had. In fact in the end of it all they couldn’t prove that there was anything illegal done, but decided Tech had covered it up and punished the team anyways.
And no Junior could not have made it in without the proper scores, that’s why he was let go (believe me if they could have gotten him in they would have gotten him in as he was too good of a recruit to cut loose for any other reason).
Brad N Tucker, Ruben Houston was kicked off the team, and was only re-instated once a judge ordered Tech to do so, as he had been cleared of the crimes for which he was dismissed from the team. Additionally the criminal activity you are referring to is not coming from the players, which is in stark contrast to the team in Athens which is a yearly favorite to win the Fulmer Cup (for criminal activity perpetuated by members of a team).

The Hill, Drad, CPJ and the Board of Regents all should be fired. Georgia Tech Football means a lot to the State of Georgia. Economically it adds to Atlanta and the State. GT football Brings in new Students(if we are successful), IF GT recruits the State of Georgia WELL then those Blue Chippers do not go from the State to Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, And Tennessee to beat UGA in the SEC. The BOR has long tried to limit Tech curriculum to protect UGA football, I guess it’s protecting Dogs Football has backfired.

You know why all these silly little rules are in place? Coaches like Nick Saban, with him being the main catalyst. Alabama fans, cool down, and investigate the facts. For example, there was a time when coaches could visit rising seniors at their HS over the summer. The NCAA changed it because Saban abused the priviledge while at MSU and LSU. Look it up. So when they restricted the number of on campus, summer time visits, Nick went around the rule and started using video-teleconferencing and services like Skype. True story. Then the NCAA changed the rule to restrictions and in some cases completely ban “contact” with a rising senior. That’s also one reason why Asst. Coaches can visit recruits more than HC. Why? Nick Saban. They make a rule, he bends it, they make another, he bends that one. And so on and so.

Amazing that anyone (other than CPJ) still buys into the CPJ is an offensive genius theory.
“I don’t need a OC, ’cause nobody is smarter than I am”, “We don’t need a special teams coach”, “It’s not MY fault when the players don’t execute”, ad nauseum.
And he has had more success with Chan Gailey’s recruits than with his own, even though Gailey recruited for a totally different offensive scheme.
Oh, and the infractions and violations are not his fault either. At least he cannot butt-dial his phone – his head gets in the way!

Comment on your other article Ken. The two guys who signed with Tech but never played. What other schools would have honored their scholarships? Probably UGA but doubt either Alabama school would have.
