P. Smith won’t return to Tech

After two separate suspensions this past season, offensive tackle Phil Smith will not play for Georgia Tech in the 2012 season.

“(After) his violation of team rules at the bowl game, I think he and Coach (Paul) Johnson decided that it’s probably best for him to concentrate on his studies,” associate athletic director Wayne Hogan said.

Smith, a redshirt junior from Tampa, Fla., was a starter for the Yellow Jackets in the 2010 and 2011 seasons and started a total of 20 games in his career. He helped the Jackets lead the nation in rushing in 2010 and finish No. 2 this season.

Smith is on track to earn his management degree this semester and would be immediately eligible to play his final season at another FBS school if he enrolled in its graduate school.

Johnson suspended Smith for the first two games of the 2011 season for violating team rules. He sent him home from the Sun Bowl for breaking team rules in El Paso, Texas. At the time, Johnson called Smith’s actions “disappointing” and said that he would address further discipline after returning to Atlanta.

Smith split snaps with tackles Tyler Kidney and Ray Beno this past season. Those two players will return, along with every other offensive lineman on the roster.

And, btw, I LOVED 24. I never missed an episode of it. Kiefer Sutherland has a new series starting up next week. I’ll probably get hooked on that one too. And yes, Angela was a TOTAL EVIL BIATCH in that movie

1 4 GT, I watched TerrNova too. I hate that it has ended for this year, and I hope it is renewed for next year. Good old-fashioned family-type entertainment—-almost like the old westerns from the 50s

UOAD, apparently what 1 4 GT posted earlier somehow struck Give Me wrong. I was a little surprised at his response. I guess maybe he thought, not knowing 1 4, that he was one of those guys always saying, “well, somebody told me this, so….blah blah blah.” But that was not true in this case, as you will see (or have seen) in 1 4’s email

The one I have really followed was LAW & ORDER. It started when I was in bed with my Broken Back. I was there from the first show and all 20 years. I like the spin-offs too. I like the original NCIS too.

Super & 5150. I kinda thought Give Me….. was a colleague, but wasn’t sure. He had me wondering for a bit at first. Yeah TN is suitable for kids, but more like Lost in Space or original Star Trek. Pretty edgy Sci Fi shows for their time. I’ve always been a fan of Sci Fi all the way back to the “horror” movies in the 50’s at the Sat matinees. The Day the Earth Stood Still—–Klatu nicto barrata The Blob–Steve McQueen The Thing— James Arness? Fortunately, I never got in to any of the Law and Order shows. I’m sure I would have gotten hooked on them too. I did happen to catch one of the CSI shows a couple of weeks ago, and I KNOW I would have gotten hooked had I watched it from the start.

One of the things i like about the L&O’s is all the Stars that get to be on the show. Movie stars, TV stars, Broadway stars. I have seen lil kids that have become big famous stars that were on L&O. Well after 20 or so years and 3 different ones you can imagine how many people go to be on the show.

Funny how Michael Carvell is “shocked” when a player chooses a college that best fits the degree he wants and not what conference the school is in. Tells you all you need to know about this douche.

Finish your degree young man, learn from your mistakes and be thankful you have gotten a free education.
If you really desire, to go through all the hassle of another year of football and aspire to be a Pro., transfer to another school and play another year. If you are good enough, I would think you could get picked in the NFL supplemental draft and play in the future for the bucks then.
Consult with the folks that have guided you through your life and aided you in major decisions up to this point.
I would say that now, your life is just beginning so hopefully, whatever mistakes you made while at college, will not dull your future endeavors. Good luck to you.

Supersize – No not really – I tried posting multiple times using the full name but was filterized each time. I just gave up and tried it another way – by shortening my apology at the same time since I was tired of apologizing for the same thing over and over only to have the post deleted. I acually had a pretty lengthly reason for jumping to the conclusion I did and ripping 1 4 GT as well as the apology but all of that stuff is now laying in the bottom of the “filter bucket” on the floor of AJC somewhere.

I have apparently used the “handle” one of your friends uses and thereby caused further confusion. I have never posted with this “handle” before and guess I ought to find another one. I used this “handle” basically to express my initial frustration and made things worse between you and your friend – so for that I guess I need to apologize as well.

I think the best thing for me to do at this point try to learn to be more relaxed when I read these blogs – and less forceful in my responses.

Yep – That’s what I’m saying. Now, we may have met but I’ve never swapped blog “handles” or e-mail addresses with anyone – so there you go – just complete and utter confusion on everyone’s part from my reading of – and response to -1 4 GT’s blog – to the three of you trying to figure out why a nice guy like the original “Give Me a Break” dude would rip a fellow blogger he knew and was acquainted with – to me trying to apologize 4 times and having the filter do me in each time.

Well, GMAB, seriously, don’t give it a second thought. We all thought you were the one we know (although 1 4 GT hasn’t met him). With all the people claiming to know things on these blogs, it’s usually a safe assumption that they really don’t know anything at all. 1 4 GT and I were in El Paso and met the president of the Alumni Association at the pre-game brunch. He told us what Smith had done, which had not been released to the media. It really was no biggie, but since it was his second infraction, he was suspended and sent home. So that is what 1 4 GT was referring to, and he wasn’t making any excuses for Smith’s behavior. We all hope he learned a life lesson from it.

Compare & contrast with Rev. Richt. How many times did the TV announcers say that one of his “student” athletes been suspended this season alone before the Tech game? 3??? And he was still on the team? And still playing??

Supersize – I got it now. Thanks for the explainations – yours, 5051 UOAD’s and 1 4 GT. As I said, I over reacted – I guess due to getting my fill of the other garbage that flows through the Tech blogs on a daily basis. I guess the one good thing to come out of all this mess is the fact you pointed out – GMAB is a whole lot easier to type! You might want to pass that along to your buddy who uses the full handle.
