What do I expect from this team next year ?
Well in the pitiful ACC they could win 7 – 8 games.
Also Tech fans will run their mouths allot after each win and will praise CPJ as the greatest genius in the history of football.
January 1st, 20127:30 am
We will not win against good teams that have time to prepare for us running this offense. We can run up the stats but do not beat the better teams. What QB that wants to go to the next level will come to here. Stepehen Hill would have a lot better stats if he were at a school that ran a pro style offense and had quarterbacks that could throw the ball on a consistant basis. Something is not right with the D. We can win 7-8 games in the ACC but losing 7 straight bowl games should tell us where we really stackup. At best we will be 3-4 best team in the ACC.
January 1st, 20129:10 am
Cpj is 12-14 in his last 26 games against Fbs teams
January 1st, 20129:15 am
Sevin in a row. Wow.
January 1st, 20129:30 am
Techs last second field goal in regulation could have won the game if the previous play was run up the middle instead of out of bounds to stop the clock. They had one time out left and would have had a better spot after an up the middle run to make the winning kick which was straight and barley missed..The Utes tieing TD pass in the last minute could have been prevented if the defensive back turned his head to look for the ball while in the air and not in the receivers hand.
January 1st, 20129:55 am
I had been hopeful the CPJ experiment would work but he has now made it clear it was wishful thinking. After all, he is 0 – 8 when it comes to the last two games of each season he has been with TECH.
Sounds crazy but I think if TECH doesn’t go 13 – 0 next year (like that will happen) CPJ needs to find another place to try to make his theory work. If next year is like the last two years and CPJ is still around, DRad needs to be sent packing as well.
And about Chokin’ Danny Hall ……….
January 1st, 20129:58 am
Could have, should have, would have. This type of offense requires no mistakes. When everyone executes, Tech can win. Unfortunately, this is not a perfect world, so good teams will make Tech make mistakes. CPJ needs to blend his Offensive game plan to be able to cross over to a more modern day attack if necessary. Otherwise, Tech will just be a fair to bad team year after year.
Dawg own tech!
January 1st, 20129:59 am
I did not know tech played football.
January 1st, 201210:01 am
Unreal…You know Tucker HS runs this offense better…and Defense??? Again unreal…it was there and then…poof!!!! Great effort from the guys…Preston, Tevin even had a decent game…just out-coached AGAIN…Note to CPJ…IT DON”T WORK!!!!!!!!!
January 1st, 201210:29 am
Tevin will be the starter all year next year. CPJ is too arrogant to admit he can’t run this offense. We have to have a 4 touchdown lead in the 4th quarter to win since PJ gets too conservative and tries to sit on the lead. It almost cost us the Clemson game but we held on. If PJ keeps his QB coach who hasn’t taught anyone how to pass in four years and if he brings back Groh, next year will be more of the same. We don’t have the talent to run teh 3-4 but Groh is just as stubborn as PJ. We heard this week that Tech was working on the shotgun once again, but I knew that PJ would be unable to try anything different in the game. He insists that special teams are ok because some other teams in the ACC don’t have a special teams coach. Next year looks like 7-5 again. He is getting about as predictable as a Danny Hall post season collapse after having a top 10 team followed by everyone calling him the greatest coach ever even though he can’t get to Omaha and no one ever interviews him for any other jobs.
January 1st, 201210:38 am
LOL. I like Paul Johnson (specially since I love UGA) but his offense will never work in big time college football. Undersized linemen, small backs, and crappy passing schemes proved not to work against a very average Utes team. I love the offense – at the high school and 1AA level.
Keep running that ball to the short side of the field baby with 250lb lineman and you will stink again next year!
Happy New Year.

January 1st, 201211:05 am
Far more than half the GT fan base is way over this offense, and is quickly losing faith in CPJ to pull the right levers with the game on the line. I thought he lost his nerve in the 4th quarter. A first down would have sealed it, yet we could only run fullback dives and QB sneaks. Where was the offensive genius when we needed him? Scared, that’s where!
FIRE AL GROH
January 1st, 201211:23 am
The defense is a joke! When you score 27 you should win the game. Al Groh just doesn’t get it anymore.
January 1st, 201211:27 am
Heres to another year of Paul “Andy” Johnson and Al “Barney” Groh.
January 1st, 201211:29 am
I coach high school football at a school that has recruits. Kids do not want to play in this offense. Qb’s, receeivers, it even affects defensive players. It is not a fun atmosphere at Tech. Players by pass their senior years if they have graduated so they can get out of here. Johnson won one year with Gailey’s players. (lost to Ga that year 09). He got lucky and beat Ga his first year that has bought him a free pass! When Johnson finally leaves this program will be 5 years behing in recruiting! DRad needs to open up his botoxed eyes!
January 1st, 201211:31 am
The offense is coming to an end.New coach and ideas is what is needed at Tech. With a large college fan base in Atlanta there is no excuse for all these bowl losses. With the right athletic director and new coaches and a marketing person tech football can return to the tops.It will take time but no reason with the above ideas put into play this will happen.
January 1st, 201211:37 am
In the post game press conference, Ken asked PJ about the play calling in the second half. Pj said “I don’t know, what did you think?” Unfortunately, Ken was unable to tell him it stunk. I guess PJ learned to be a jerk from O’Leary with that kind of answer. Man up and play to win instead of playing not to lose. That is why Gailey isnt here anymore. Time to hire a QB coach and didn’t play for PJ and can teach something new instead of failing with the same ideas over and over.
January 1st, 201211:42 am
Bottom line is that it’s time for coach johnson to be fired and take his pop warner offense with him. That crap might work in little league but there’s a reason why you don’t see any top ranked teams using this childish offense. coach johnson is a disgusting failure
January 1st, 201211:53 am
Tech won the first 3 quarters, so it was a moral victory.
January 1st, 201211:54 am
Washington played a fine game.
There are two reasons for this loss. 1. For 3 quarters, Utah was the worst offense I have seen this season. Similar to Kansas. How in the 4th quarter did they become awesome ? They really did nothing different. Answer: Groh cannot manage a lead. 2. The Tech offense became timid. If you complete 2 straight over the top passes for a TD, which Tech had just done, why stop ? Tech should have been able to pile up the score in the 4th. Tech should have scored at least 17 in the 4th qtr as they had Utah beat.
January 1st, 201212:02 pm
I love it.
January 1st, 201212:07 pm
maybe it was the altitude….wore em out in the end
January 1st, 20121:03 pm
Slow day on the Tech blog!
January 1st, 20121:11 pm
Wow I’ve been a CPJ backer ever since he got here but man what a puss in the last 6 mins. He played not to lose instead of playing to win. Fullback dive and 2 QB sneaks to try and get a 1st down. And I’ve raised h$ll all year about his conservative play calling at the end of close games. I think his a- hole tightens up so tight at the end of games you couldn’t drive a 10 penny nail in it. And what on Earth was Groth thinking on 4th and 14? No way do you leave Thomas in man coverage on that play. He had gotten beat on the previous play but got away with pass inter. I feel the team played hard but the coaching staff let them down at the end. Piss poor coaching lost this game. Only thing that keeps me optimistic about next year is that we’re young and should be better dispite the coaching. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TECH.
January 1st, 20121:18 pm
Sorry I missed the game…it was a pretty at the beach.
January 1st, 20121:50 pm
What is a Ute anyway? It should now be apparent to the handful of diehard GT fans that they will have a hard time beating any team that can prepare for their offense. The only thing worse than this loss would be to be defeated by a MAC or Sunbelt conference team. You need to develop an offense that will attract the higher profile recruits, and get back to playing tough defense unless you want to become a simple FBS program like Furman or GA southern.
January 1st, 20122:17 pm
Any team that can beat Clemson convincingly can beat Va Tech, UGA, and certainly Utah. This coaching staff had a golden opportunity in its hands and threw it away. And a crappy Auburn team made Virginia look like Agnes Scott. Don’t even mention the sleepwalking this team has done with Miami over the past 2 years. A strong coaching staff does things that this staff can’t do. DRAD you have work to do and it needs to be seen in the next two weeks. DRAD: Show up on the job !
January 1st, 20122:18 pm
DRAD: Are you in your office now ? If not, why ?
January 1st, 20122:19 pm
Notice that this performance was so sad thate the writers haven’t even tried to prepare an article ?
January 1st, 20122:25 pm
Tech had 8 minutes more possession time, 5 more first downs and Utah is limited to 5 of 17 3rd down conversions. Please sports fans, tell me how it is possible to lose a game when you have this superiority ?
January 1st, 20123:31 pm
I’ve said it a thousand times…….Paul Johnson will never win steady running that “high-school” offense……and no defensive mind at all………..That system is ok in Statesboro or High School…..not playing with the “big_boys”……….Ga Tech needs to go find a real coach….like Bobby Ross and get their program back on track…..Paul Johnson is a poor spokes person for the school…”sour grapes” and thinks he is alot better than he really is…….I’m not a Tech fan, but if you want the truth tech fans ….there it is…..
January 1st, 20123:35 pm
@wreckmaniac……UGA pounded Tech……..they havent beat them but once in 11 years…….so don’t come with the “could have, should haves”………Tech isn’t very good and havent been in quite a while.
January 1st, 20123:36 pm
and don’t blame it on groh Tech fans…..PJ is the CEO……….it’s his fault
January 1st, 20125:03 pm
If one of the three missed field goals had gone in (Tech’s hit the uprights and missed and theirs hit it and went in), If the refs had called obvious offensive pass interference (as they did against Tech on the first play of the game) on the 4th and 14 touchdown Utah made near the end of the game, if Tech had not had three offensive and one defensive starter out (as well as a first team linebacker the second half) ,would the outcome had been different and most of these negative blogs about Johnson not be seen here?
January 1st, 20125:43 pm
hey acc fan…there have been negative blogs about the great PJ many times this yr , not just this one. its a trend the way this team and scheme plays….middle of the road with some games won that are a surprise and others…well not so much. Im tired of the same ol same ol..
January 1st, 20125:51 pm
Headley and his expectations…LMFAO! Sorry is USMC Jacket now? What a worthless excuse for a human being. You are using up perfectly good air and space.
January 1st, 20127:03 pm
Why do these bowl committees even consider georgia tech the losers for post season play? What is this, 10 losses in a row. They can’t draw fans and they can’t win…bad combination.
2,000 Fans at the Game
January 1st, 20127:38 pm
Tech only had 2,000 fans at this game. Really?? No wonder bowls don’t like Tech. No support for the program = Joke!!!!
Wait until CPJ is fired. With the small offensive linemen CPJ recruited, Tech will be years before they win again in a normal offensive scheme. This is the reason DRad wants CPJ’s scheme to win. Neither man survives if CPJ cannot win.
January 1st, 20129:37 pm
Wow! I’ve checked all the Tech blogs just now and there are more dog than Tech fans. I guess we are not as irrelevant as you boast of all the time. Yes, we lost. I’ve moved on. You guys should try it. BTW, good luck in your bowl game.
Ga Tech Old Timer
January 1st, 20129:44 pm
Tevin Washington is quoted as saying about the last series of downs before giving the ball back to Utah – “the follow play was there all day”. He and Coach Johnson need go get out the films of that last quarter and review them. The “follow play” had been stuffed that whole last quarter and Tech just kept running it – no finesse plays or pass plays to trick the defense – just the attitude by Johnson of “we’re going to stuff it down their throat if it’s the last thing we do” – and it was. a large part of the game of football is critical thinking and being able to change / adapt to the changing conditions of the defense. Coach Johnson did that well in the first two years at Tech – not so much since. And one more thing – like the announcers were egar to point out on our defense on the touchdown to tie the game – it should have been a zone defense – not one on one. Coach Groh needs to explain his actions.
January 1st, 201211:05 pm
Wow…did any of you geniuses read the stat line and notice we racked up 450 yards of offense against Utah? Including a pretty decent passing day out of Tevin?
The offense, or any amount of time to prepare for it, wasn’t what lost this game. I would have to be the world’s biggest moron to agree with that line of thinking.
If you a actually watched the game (which I’m sure all those here being critical of CPJ must surely have) you’d have noticed 3 missed FGs, a fumble near the redzone, and terrible 4th quarter defense. Blame him for a bunch of other things…but not the offense.
January 1st, 201211:19 pm
i’m a cpj fan and a fan of this offense; but the second half of this game was poorly called by cpj. even if we ran counters like we did against ga, we would have made several first downs and run out the clock. even scored more in the 3rd qtr. should have. but cpj forgot to diversify his offense…
January 2nd, 20128:50 am
ACC Coastal Division Champs – NO
ACC Champs – NO
Beat UGA – NO
National Champs – NO
Won Bowl Game – NO
Hey, but that’s OK – we opened the game in the shotgun formation, AND we still have the best coach in the nation as our Head Coach (just ask Mark Bradley or any of the other 2 dozen GT fans that care about our program)…..
So what, FL Jacket...
January 2nd, 20128:52 am
…the Falcons had 470 yards of offense against the Saints last week and still lost 45-16…your point is, well, pointless…
January 2nd, 20129:30 am
Wow. Paul Johnson’s offense becomes more predictable by the day and the defense is always a disaster, but what should most concern Tech fans about this loss is the complete lack of heart the team displayed in the 4th quarter. Utah just wanted it more. You can’t blame that on calculus Techies. I’m sure you’ll try though.
As always, Georgia Tech=JOKE.
January 2nd, 201210:15 am
dawgfan, Isn’t Tech irrelevant too? Yet here you are talking trash. Tech is obviously relevant to you. Thanks for watching, not so much for posting. I think your team has a game today. You should go post on the dog blog.

January 2nd, 201211:11 am
We will never be able to beat good teams running this pitiful offense. It is never a good feeling to start every game knowing that if you fall behind you are in trouble. Now we can’t even hold leads. There is a reason this CPJ’s offense doesn’t work in bowl games (taking away defensive scores Tech has averaged 8.5 ppg). The only way this offense can work is if the opponent is not used to defending it or is simply terrible on defense like Kansas.
With the incredible talent UGA is bringing in and the fact that they now have a defensive coordinator, we can forget scoring on UGA for the next few years. It is embarrassing. And by the way, my son is a high school football player in Georgia on a team with several prospects and the offensive players will not even consider Tech due to the offense (including the lineman). If our next coach runs a real offense, it will take him at least 3 years to get real lineman and wideouts.
January 2nd, 201211:14 am
Points win games not stats! We almosy always rack up some yards just because the style of offense!
January 2nd, 20121:57 pm
As a loyal GT alum and supporter, I have to say that next year should be a make or break year for Johnson that starts with this recruiting season.
CPJ is a gifted play caller and offensive coordinator but has proven sub-standard as an overall Head Coach. Recruiting has been very poor. Overall team preparation and readiness is inconsistent. Special Teams has been fundamentally unsound as has the pathetic defense.
Time for a change in performance starting with this recruiting class – IMMEDIATELY!
