Young held out of Sun Bowl for Tech
Georgia Tech cornerback Louis Young will not play in the Sun Bowl for disciplinary reasons, coach Paul Johnson said Monday.
Johnson declined to elaborate, but did say that the discipline may extend past the bowl game.
“We’ll see,” Johnson said. “For now, he’s not eligible for the bowl game.”
Young will be replaced by Jemea Thomas in the starting lineup. Jamal Golden or Mike Peterson are the likely replacements at the No. 3 cornerback spot.

I can’t believe that one of GT’s Angels that happen to play CFB got into trouble that would cause a suspension.
The rest of the GT fans (not me of course) would say that “xyz HC from ABC FB-Factory has been Recruiting THUGS”.
Kinda amazing how KARMA works in Sports, no sooner than the GT Fanbase runs their mouths about players at other schools being THUGS, lo & behold we have starter and our best DB being suspended for our Bowl Game with the possibility of the suspension lasting longer.

this happens every year for GT as the prep for bowl games. Each year, a key player is ruled out or held out for grades or disciplinary reasons. Doesn’t account for the astronomical amount of losses in the bowls, but it sure doesn’t help.

Why is GT always so “hush-hush” about things that happen within their FB Program?
Whereas whenever something goes down at our In-State rival, a LOT of details usually come forth.
Why does GT seem to like HIDE everything from the Media.
They were hush-hush when Drummond got clipped for a year for being a scumbag, cheating STEROIDS user.
In A. Ebugniwe’s(sp?) Jr. year he got into fight and beat someone up on campus and the suspension was covered up by GT as he was out for an “injury”.
It seems to me like GT has the same issues as everyone else but they shelter their holier-than-thou fanbase so they can poke their collective chests out about the value of their Elite GT Education.

WnE – we say things like that about schools where players are regularly arrested for drug charges, assaults, and things of that nature. Odds are Young wasn’t involved in anything like that. I doubt it was for grades since the article clearly states “disciplinary reasons”, but I also doubt anyone who plays for CPJ is dumb enough to commit a felony.

dawgfan your lack of knowledge when it comes to GT and football in general never falls short of amazement considering how much time you spend on GT football blogs. Our secondary is actually pretty good it is the d-line that fails to put any kind of constant pressure that has caused GT problems in passing game. You know like 90% percent of your program and simple math with have trouble getting past the first equation.

Dwight Schrute, not the whole state of Florida, just Tampa. The Outback Bowl usually has trouble selling out even with a Big 10 team vs an SEC team. Last years matchup with Penn State and Florida didnt even sell out. When the ACC championship was moved to Tampa, ticket sales plummeted. When it moved back to Charlotte it sold out. Its not hard to see that Tampa is not a college football town.

I don’t understand ragging bowl destinations.
The Sun Bowl is a well run bowl that has been around long enough for folks over 40 to remember UGA and GT playing in it. The stadium is cool looking and the weather is usually warm and sunny.
Going to Tampa in January is never a bad gig. We get to play a team that probably can make a strong case they should have been in a BCS Bowl.
The kids from both schools are going to enjoy the bowl experience and the coaches get extra practices.
I don’t get bashing it.

I for one am tired of the ongoing rhetoric between UGA and GT fans. As GT fans, we need to acknowledge that UGA has an outstanding athletic program, alumni base and student body. At the same time, we also need to recognize that the UGA fan base is primarily comprised of individuals that were unable to attend any academic institution post high school. Their anger and sarcasm is largely driven by the feelings of inadequacy that they are dealing with every day – either at the workplace or at home. In the spirit of the season, let’s give them an opportunity to vent as they likely have no other outlet other than one that would likely turn to violence.

gt4ever yes I like watching college football. Most of the bowls are not very good match-ups. The fans of the teams playing and the gamblers are the only people that CARE about who wins for the most part. I enjoyed the Cajan’s win it was an exciting game. I didn’t care who won. I just wanted a good game and I got it. All these bowls are for ESPN to fill air time and that is why so many lose money. People are going to stop going to more of these bowls because the MATCH-UPs suck and are in the middle of the week. Who wants to spend that kind of money and time off work in this economy? Dad and I are not going to El Paso. but we would go to Charlotte, Memphis, or Nashville this year.

A coach can suspend a player for any reason he see fit without saying more than a violation of team rules. If coach has said no drug use then he makes the decision.

headley I will state that I think all schools and conferences should fall under the same penalties as that would be the fair way to go about it. GT has no control over how any other team is going to discipline its players and others clearly have a stronger or leaner way to go about things. Clemson and Fla. St. surprised me. I would say most schools have probably come to their policy judging past experiences whether it be negative or positive. I would also venture a guess that these tests are not conducted to often as I would expect in today’s culture that more would test positive.

I know that the Sugar Bowl is an SEC bowl game, so how could they not select the precious pups?? What is even more amazing is that they selected a mediocre ACC team who got pasted in the ACC championship over the mighty bull pups!! What gives almighty mutt fans? I keep hearing how the ACC is such a joke, but low and behold the ACC is the SEC representative in the Sugar Bowl!!!

I for one would much rather go to the sun bowl than to the music city. I was hoping for a Champs Sports bowl bid. It really doesn’t matter as long as Tech wins the D@#N game! I’m not going to knock the Outback Bowl, Raymond James on New Years Day when its 70 degrees isn’t a bad thing by no means. What does blow about the Outback Bowl is the 11am start time! I mean getting to the stadium at 8-9 am the morning after partying for New Years Eve is a little much!

@Really?, it’s very sad you believe violent crime is something to “Laugh Out Loud” about. You should pause and reflect on your statements. It’s not a joke. It’s a very serious problem. I realize you are just trying to make a disparaging remark about The Georgia Institute of Technology, but don’t you think your statements are over the top? Should you not be writing the governor of Georgia and the Mayor of Atlanta stating your concerns about this serious issue? I assume you or anyone you know has never been a victim of violent crime. I hope you never will experience it but can you at least show some empathy for the victims? The best you can do is go on a sports blog and bring up this issue? You certainly could do more…possibly? If not then you have bigger issues which would require a mental health specialist. Look in the mirror, search your soul and make the decision that’s best for you and society. Thank you in advance.

I hate that Young got suspended, but he got beat the most between the corners. Although, Young was the better blitzer of the corners. None of you have a clue about the suspension, and due to confidentiality requirements established by law, unless someone waives the information, you have no right to find out why he was suspended. What we do know is that it wasn’t due to academic reasons due the timing of grade releases and to Paul Johnson’s statement, but the matter could be as simple as missing a class, or being late for a team meeting or practice. Speculation is a moot point because it won’t get anyone any specific answer.
I would also suggest to all of the UGA fans “visiting” our blog and making snide comments about this suspension, to look back at your past history and then think about what may be in your immediate future as well. The Bulldogs have a history of suspending players as well, and it’s very possible there may be some around the corner.
Finally, I might remind everyone these are 18-23 year olds who are away from home for the first time, and some of them mess up occasionally. Cut them some slack, especially this time of the year.

Jacket Man……….You are incorrect. There are no legal restrictions on telling what the reason for suspension is for. It is solely up to the AD or Head Coach to decide.
Also, the Sun Bowl was a good trip 30 years ago when you could party in Juarez, but drugs and crime have completly shut down all decent places to go, you cannot find any place you would take your wife or date to. Rental cars are not insurable in Juarez. Unless you want a new pair of Dan Post or Tony Lama’s you will be bored stiffless in ElPaso.

hahaha example 1 stumpknocker. The outback bowl is a great bowl. Like thats just a dumb arguement tech fans and dawg fans will just think you’re an idiot. I know i laugh at uga fans who try to knock on like florida or tech and the arguement is just idiotic. Just think and also it annoys me how when a uga player has trouble with grades its oh what a thug, uga is letting them by and a bunch of stuff. Now a tech player has trouble with his grades where are those people (even though i’m sure some uga fans are letting yall have it….. another dumb arguement.

Now as for low level bowls ………………..sure UGA has been to plenty and won and lost em.
GT IS a CONSTANT in low level bowls. Here are the facts: GT in 1955 was in the Sugar Bowl. Next time they were extended an invitation to a MAJOR BOWL was 1966 and they played and lost in the 67 Orange Bowl to Florida. I watched that game.
Next major invitation INCLUDING 1990 when the Citrus was a low to possibly mid level bowl was the 2009 Orange Bowl and another humiliating loss for GT.
Now since 1955 ……………….UGA has been to around 20-25 MAJOR BOWLS counting the Orange in 60 to the 66 Cotton, 68 Sugar and the 74 Cotton and the 75 Sugar Bowl and the 80,81,82 Sugar Bowl ( 1 win, 2 losses for the NC) and either 83 or 84 Cotton where we defeated # 1 Texas 10-9 and then yes, a long wait for a MAJOR until the 92 Capital One where UGA stomped Ohio State and QB Kirk Herbstreet and then the 2001 or 2002 Sugar and about two or three more Sugar Bowls and Outbacks and another Capital One or so.
See? UGA has maybe 20 or 25 MAJOR bowls to GT’s THREE since 1955. You have to go back that far BECAUSE IT IS THAT LONG AGO that GT even attended a MAJOR BOWL beyond the 67 and 09 Orange Bowl.
yes, both of us have done plenty of Liberty, Weedeater and Gator and Sun ( Fox Sports News ranked this year’s Sun Bowl # 27 out of 35 and said UGA’s OUTBACK BOWL was # 5.) and Blue Bonnett Bowl games and Music City and Emerald City,etc. Heck, I even recall Joe Pa stomping Bobby Dodd in the Gator in either 65 or 66.

Word from a few players… The Jackets have taken it easy in preparing for the upcoming Bowl game. We will look sloppy again and drop an ugly loss to Utah.
Forget the fans… It’s all about making this a fun experience for the players. 8-5 here we come. CPJ has an awful bowl record… Figures because that’s when we play quality teams.

Thanx Insider. I knew the host team would have more fans at the game anyway. Utah was the western host in San Fran when Tech lost to them in Emerald Bowl.
